We specialize in a Positive Mental Attitude. Developing our focus. Learning traditional martial arts techniques that develop our balance and coordination. Improving our self-​image, self-​confidance, self-​respect and self-​discipline. We strive to learn from our mistakes, develop our inner strength, our purpose and determination. We specialize also in patience because it takes time to grow and time to learn how to focus. We face our fears and weaknesses and try not to compare ourselves to others. Our motto is simple «He can do, She can do, Why not me»!

History

Established in 1985.

Jung SuWon Martial Art Academy was Founded by Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim. We have a history of teaching the martial arts in a way that truely helps individual students to excell both physically and mentally and applies in all areas of their life.

We specialize in teaching all ages as our principles apply to all ages. Our motto is: «He can do, She can do, Why not me»! Believe in yourself and see what you can accomplish.

We want our students to improve and we are dedicated to every one of them. We are the school that cares. We have the programs that work. You can witness it yourself in person on a daily basis.

I have been training under our Founder Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim for over 30 years now and I am a great witness and participant in the school programs, instruction and operations.

I have learned that most of all it is important to have a good attitude in life.

All of our black belts, instructors and masters have a deep regard for every student. We truely care. We will try our best to share what we have learned with every student attending.

We are educated and disciplined and we strive for best in every student.

These people will take your money. I am a busy single mother. I asked them if I could join. They had no program that would fit my needs. But three people from staff talked to me and convinced me to sign up for one-​on-​one classes on Saturdays. I was also asked to buy their costume.
After that there was only one Saturday when they were open. I had spent over 200 $ for two classes. I wrote to them. They apologized and promised to refund the fee.
I wrote to them for several weeks. They did not return the money.

My kids used to go to JungSuWong Martial Academy to learn Martial Art —
. The location was close to my house, so it was easy for me to take my kids to the Martial Art Place. They asked me to sign the contract, and I did. All of a sudden, they moved from the place where they were, to a different farther place. Now it was difficult for me to drive. They will not return the money back — even though I did not sign the contract for them to move to any location they wanted to. I found few months later they have charged access money to our card when the contract finished. After calling them they said they will return the money, but later said that they have to pay their bills, so they can not return sooner, but will do later. But they never did, I have been following up with them on emails and they do not reply to my emails or talk to me on phone, They are Cheaters.

Jung Su Won training has been exciting and rewarding. Helping me in all aspects of my life I leave class full of energy ready to excel in whatever I do. Worth checking out. I like there are classes 6 days a week. And multiple time slots.

My 4 year old son spent 4 months there and we felt that their program was geared more towards the older children through adult age groups. They have a «learn at your own pace» philosophy which is fine, and perfect for that age range but not appropriate for the younger child. The class sizes were too big and not separated by age or skill level. If he was doing a move incorrectly, they didn’t correct him or tell him it was wrong or show him the correct maneuver. If he lost focus or started «playing around», the instructors allowed it, which was not acceptable for us. We wanted him to learn how to focus, concentrate, and learn discipline. We shared our feelings numerous times but to no avail. The day we put in our final notice, they started showing our son some attention, but a little bit too late. By then, the staff knew us all by our first names so it was unfortunate that it didn’t work well for our son. They were all great but their program was just not for us.

Do your research. My family spent several years there. As advertised, it is certainly more than a martial arts school. At the time we were invited to a special live in program.
In short we got more than we bargained for, and it has taken my mother and myself years (of therapy) to recover from some traumatic experiences.
All is not terrible, the martial art school itself is very disciplined and taught me a lot.
A google search of Jung SuWon will yield lots of individual experiences. It is best to do your own research.

This is one of the few (if not only) studios in the East Bay that offers classes in PARKOUR. Yes, you heard me right, ladies and gents. I said parkour.
Now, what is parkour, do you ask? Well, I’m sure many of you have seen the movie, Casino Royale, and remember the spectacular scene at the beginning, with James Bond chasing the bombmaking baddie over, under, and through the expansive landscape. A select few of you may have even witnessed the jaw-​dropping French actioner, Banlieue (District B) 13. THAT is parkour, my friends.
For a better definition, we must quote Wikipedia. «Parkour (the art of displacement) is an activity with the aim of moving from one point to another as efficiently and quickly as possible, using principally the abilities of the human body. It is meant to help one overcome obstacles, which can be anything in the surrounding environment – from branches and rocks to rails and concrete walls – and can be practiced in both rural and urban areas.»
For years, I have been honing my skill on the streets and the local parks, with no professional guidance, and virtually no safety equipment in the event that I make a mistake. I have perfected this craft as best to my abilities given the limited resources, and thankfully, have not sustained any major injuries. However, wanting to take it to the next level, I was elated to find this spot that offers a clean, safe environment for this aspiring urban ninja.
The class is taught by martial arts master extraordinaire, and all around bad @$$, Palmer, who is well versed in gymnastics, tricking, tae kwon do, and of course, parkour. Come check it out every Saturday afternoon from 3 to 6 pm, and you will be tearing up this vast concrete jungle we call the Bay Area before long, just like these guys (
