History

Established in 2003.

Nancy Cerna began making quilts out of her home making memory quilts and completing vintage quilts. This eventually grew into a business outside her home offering long-​arm quilting and embroidery services in addition to the memory quilts. She established a growing clientele by giving her customers more than they expected and a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Now in her new home on Niles Blvd., helped by her husband Norman and son Kent, it is truly a family business and every customer is a friend.

Manager

Norman K. Booi, Sr. serves NotJustQuiltZ as the Operations Manager and Relationship Management expert. He brings over 30 years of business experience in the financial industry and as a business owner himself. His business acumen and financial expertise has kept NotJustQuiltZ healthy as other small businesses are closing. As a Vietnam War Veteran, he was instrumental in forming Quilts of Valor-​East Bay with co-​coordinators Chuck and Diana Liles of Color Me Quilts and More in Niles. The group makes and donates quilts to wounded Veterans returning from the global war on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan. Once you get to know Norman, don’t be surprised if he greats you with a big smile and a hug.

I actually called them because Unilocal Sao the do alterations, they do not. But the gentleman that answered went above and beyond anything I could of asked for he suggested a few places that do. Thanks you him I was able to get my dress fixed! I love around the corner from this place I must check it out now. I can only imagine what amazing products the do.

Honestly, I wouldn’t even give 1 star. But for the sake of having to put a star, I did.
I was looking for a couple of handkerchiefs to get embroidery done, about maybe 10 pieces. Just something simple, like initials. So I searched up something near my house and Not Just Quiltz popped up at the top. So sure! Why not! It’s right by my house and considering that they have 4.5 stars it sounded like a plan to me.
I arrived there with a friend. We walked in and they just stared at us. Not even a «hello». Just looked at us went back to their work. It was raining and very windy, so when we opened the door, the door didn’t automatically close back up. One guy rudely told us to close the door. Uh. OK. Once we closed the door, they just continued back to their work. UH. OK. I had to approach them and say «Hi, excuse me. I just have a question.» They weren’t even like «sure what can we help you with!» They just looked. I had explained to them what I wanted to be done and by when. Considering the fact that previous customers had said that they got their stuff done pretty quickly (a day and half worth) I thought the day that I needed it by wasn’t too much. It was saturday afternoon and I asked if it could be done by monday by closing or tuesday by lunch time the latest. As soon as I said this, the lady basically gave me attitude as if I was crazy for this deadline! «Are you kidding me? Do you know what day it is? I have other embroidery projects lined up. No I can’t» UH OK!!! I just asked. I wasn’t forcing her to do it. If she couldn’t do the project she just had to simply say tell me politely that it wasn’t doable. I was shocked. And confused! I have no clue how embroidery works and if my deadline was not reasonable or whatever, but they didn’t need to be rude about it. I just walked away and said «Oh, okay. Thanks anyways.» NOT COMING BACK HERE AT ALL FOR ANY REASON.

I needed some baseball hats embroidered with my name on them. I took them at first to another store at the mall and they wanted some ridiculouls price for them to be done plus a crazy set up fee.
Did a search for «embroidery» shops in the area and «Not Just QuiltZ» popped up. They are close to my work so I went there during lunch. They are located in the old town Niles which is a quiet area and sometimes forgotten. Anyways walked in and talked to Nancy and she said that they could do the project for me with no problem at all. Price was very reasonable and so was the one time set up fee. She said next time since I’m in the system I do not need to pay the set up fee anymore.
Dropped the hats off on Friday at 11am and on Saturday 5pm she was calling me telling me they were all done. I was surprised and happy.
They came out perfect!!!
I will be bringing my future business to them from now on. Thanks.

This is a small shop, but they have a lovely collection of batiks and aboriginal fabrics. I was looking for specific colors for a quilt I’m working on and was able to find several fabrics that suit my needs perfectly. And I plan to return sometime to indulge in their aboriginal fabrics, which are really beautiful. Definitely worth the trip.

I cannot imagine going anywhere else if you want quality work done. I brought in some 40 year old quilt blocks and wanted them finished. I had no idea what I actually wanted, but left it to Nancy. I had a quilt made there a few years ago so I knew the quality of work i would receive. The results were amazing! It brought tears to my eyes to see these precious blocks so perfectly arranged, with a fabric that set the whole thing off perfectly. I would recommend them to anyone out there looking for quality work.

I hereby proclaim Nancy to be «The Queen of Long Arm Quilting.» She’s done truly amazing work on the quilts I have brought into the store. I really value her judgment in finding the perfect stitch theme to accentuate my quilt tops. I go for somewhat quirky multimedia projects and her inspirations for patterns and thread combinations have escalated my work to a much higher level.
A recent project required presenting the image of an underwater scene, and she combined multiple patterns to include fish and bubbles — it really pulled the entire project together nicely. Since finding Nancy, I have not taken my quilts anywhere else. She’s my number one choice, and I’d rather wait for her, than settle for someone else who can’t possibly deliver to her (and my) high standards!

I brought my quilt in to be finished on Tuesday and I just got it back today, Friday. Not Just Quiltz did an awesome job with it. They were very helpful in answering my questions, and making sure it didn’t cost too much as I am on a budget. They have a wide selection of basting patterns and thread colors, and work closely with you and your quilt to chose the right one. I am very satisfied with the job they did and would recommend to anyone that needs a quilt done.
Also, they offer classes, which I hope to take one day!

I had a patch embroidered with my daughter’s name on it which only took
a day to complete which I am very happy about. I was not too pleased that they called right before they were closing to tell me the patch was finished. I rushed out the door to catch them, otherwise I would have had to wait another day. No big deal.
I was referred to come here by a friend who got the same patch done. However, I got charged more and my daughter has fewer letters in her name and the size of the lettering’s compared the same. I was displeased with this as well. I could have disputed the price, but being so late in the day I just had no energy left to
argue a couple of $. I did not see a price chart so I could not justify why I got charged more for the same thing. Mind boggling.

If I could give zero stars, I would. My 91-​year-​old mother finished her last quilt top and decided that quilting it herself was now too overwhelming – she would be happy to hand sew the binding one last time. She asked me to take care of getting the quilt put together. I chose Not Just Quiltz because they sell extra-​wide batik backing that requires no piecing. A week after I dropped off the quilt top, I was called back to select a different fabric as my first choice was unavailable. The quilter confirmed the availability of my second choice and promised the quilt in six weeks. I called back in eight weeks, listened to excuses, was promised the quilt in two months. Another eight weeks, more excuses, another promise. Last week I was told that Mom’s quilt would be the next one on the sewing table, ready for pick-​up tomorrow, Tuesday. This morning the quilter called and admitted she didn’t have the backing material, had never had it, couldn’t get it, and the next shipment from the South Pacific with another fabric selection would be six weeks at the earliest. This afternoon I went over to the shop and retrieved Mom’s quilt top. Back to square one. Five months wasted. Five months of being strung along. Meanwhile, Mom has turned 92. I’ve asked my quilting friends if this is the norm for getting a quilt assembled. Their adjective: terrible.

Not just quilltz is located in the beautiful part of Niles with all the other nice little stores. My friend and I went there to get some numbers embroidered onto our Members only jacket. The owner lady of the store was very nice and helpful in deciding what we should get on the jackets. It costed us 10 dollars initially and 5 dollars afterwards for the second jacket. We will be going there next time to get our other jackets embroidered. 5⁄5

I needed names embroidered on aprons as a present for someone very special to me, but needed it done quickly because I had three days before traveling to see the person.
The staff at Not Just Quiltz not only helped me decide what would look best on the aprons, but they recognized that I needed the job done as quickly as possible. I dropped the aprons off on a Wednesday, and by Thursday evening they called me to let me know they were already ready for pick up.
The aprons turned out BEAUTIFUL. Not Just Quiltz did a fantastic job and their input and efficiency was immensely appreciated. If I ever need anything monogrammed or embroidered again, I will definitely be coming back here!

When I was a kid I was always a little envious of the kids with the monogrammed backpacks, socks, t-​shirts, bathing suits, towels, headgear ponytails… Ok those last two were a joke, but I finally found a reason to get something monogrammed and being a newbie, Not Just for Quiltz was perfect for my needs.
They walked me through the process, and I had a tight deadline because I needed to gift my item for an anniversary and they delivered and then some. The shirt and sweater came out great and the price was really reasonable. I would definitely recommend them and i know I’ll be coming back to get a few childhood things out of my system.

Same great people, same great service but Not Just Quiltz has JUST MOVED!
Easy to find, they are right at the start of Niles Blvd (from my direction!)Under the railway and the road turns right, they are in the first block of stores on the left — look for the great new sign over the door.
I just dropped a quilt top off for quilting confident in the knowledge that they will continue to treat each top with care and love and that they listen to what I want. The whole team know what they are doing and are always a pleasure to spend time with. They get to know their quilters and understand that we don’t all want/​like the same thing and they know how to help us finish our quilts the way we want them done.
So glad they have found a new home in Niles.

Took a pair of slacks here that needed some embroidery work done on a ripped pocket on the back of the slack.
Now i do have to say while the work was not completed… it was not due to the fact that Nancy did not know how to do it. She did the best she could to repair the pants (even considering that repair was not her specialty). She mentioned to me that it was not a guarantee and that she would do her best to make it work.
needless to say after about a week or so. i went to get the slacks and talked to her husband who mentioned while she did try her best to fix them, it wasnt going to work out. i was charged nothing since the work was not done. but i did recieve some really helpfull information on where to get a pair of replacement slacks that would be top quality italian wool for a rather cheap price.

I’ve known Nancy for years, and she’s done a lot of charity quilts for our Guild and Quilts of Valor. I just had her do a personal quilt — it was too huge for anything but «quilting by pocketbook!»
We decided on an overall design that really worked for the Oriental feel of the pattern. It was really a great job and done just when she had promised. I’m extremely pleased with her work.
