Fox in a Box

I had my first escape room experience today and it was awesome! I’m so glad we have this in DTF! Fox in the Box is located in the center behind Buffalo Exchange and Zing piano bar. There’s a parking lot right in front and another one across the street in the same center as ACE hardware. Parking can be difficult at peak times but you can always try street parking too. The entrance is so cute, but not really noticeable from the street so just park and trust Google to get you there.
We came here to celebrate a bridal shower with a party of 12. You have to book an entire room for your party with a maximum number of 6 people per room. Your group is given 60 min in each room. There are clues that need to be solved in order to open up more clues. You are given hints every 10 min; clues are given by the worker who is monitoring your group’s progress, so they know what hints you need to continue on. Apparently no one has passed without help from hints so don’t be stubborn and ask for them!
There are 3 rooms (1) The Central Bank — 25% success rate, (2) Prison break — 18% success rate and (3) Bunker room 23% success rate. We split into 2 groups of 6; one group did the Bank room and the other group did the Bunker room. For the Bank, you are robbers trying to break into the safe. Electricity is out so you are navigating in the dark with some headlights/​flashlights for most of your time there. Unfortunately for our friends, they didn’t accomplish their goal within the 60 minutes. For the Bunker room, we had to help Mr. Fox stop a bomb from going off. I did the Bunker room. Without giving too much away, I believe the Bunker room was more logical and technical with some problem solving. I’m proud to say, our group was successful in our mission with 07:43 min to spare!
The staff here was so friendly and helpful. They helped us navigate through the room and cheered us on! They definitely made the experience more enjoyable.
Tip: Designate a member on your team to keep track of when you can get a hint. Hints are given every 10 min but you need to push a button to request it. If you forget or miss the time you might lose out on a hint.

So apparently this is an escape room franchise with places in europe and throughout US, and their success is evident. Place is small, but very clean and well kept. The dudes working the front were super chill and made the check in process very simple. They have 3 puzzles, I did the Bank robbery one with 5 other friends and we had a blast. Puzzles were sometimes tricky but they let you have 1 hint every 10 min, so 6 max during your 1 hr event. Extra +1 cause the front desk guy sounded and looked like Hailey’s boyfriend from Modern Family. One small issue was some of the puzzles were more difficult to solve due to maintenance issue on Fox in a Box’s side and ended up costing us some time (we might’ve beaten the record time if it weren’t for that).
Will be returning though to try the other puzzles in the future.

I had so much fun even though we didn’t escape. The staff are super courteous and helpful. If I’m ever in CA again, I will mos def check this place out for a second and maybe third time!

We love Fox in a Box! Today we escaped from the Cold War Bunker. This was my seventh escape room, including the Prison at Fox in a Box. I’ve been to a total of five escape room places and Fox in a Box has the best customer service. The employees are friendly, professional, and fun. I highly recommend it!

Fox in the Box provided an excellent experience. Out of the 12 or so escape rooms we have done, this is by far the most professional and organized. The hipster in me was reluctant at first to go to a franchised escape room (as opposed to a local mom and pop kinda place) but after reading the Unilocal reviews, I decided to go for Fox in the Box. It was a great decision. Being part of a fairly large franchise, Fox in the Box did all their troubleshooting already, and the hint system reflects that. We did the Central Bank and Prison escape rooms.
Puzzle Quality (4.5 Stars out of 5 Stars)
Very high quality puzzles. Someone told me that this is more of a linear puzzle kinda place as oppose to mass volume divide and conquer. I think its more linear mass volume. There just seemed to be an endless, endless volume of puzzles. We have seen many of the puzzles before in other escape rooms, and some are quite original, at least from our perspective. As I mentioned before, they did all their troubleshooting already, so there were never any puzzles that we thought were complete bullshit. The puzzles required effort, but never too tedious. I loved it.
Staff/​location (5 Stars out of 5 Stars)
You really cannot beat the location here. Downtown Fullerton!!! You have excellent cocktail bars, beer taverns, Japanese restaurants, wine bars, burger joints, steaks restaurants, latin food places, playhouses, on and on, right in walking distance. Parking can be a bit tough, but not impossible. I truly cannot say enough good things about the staff, they were super friendly, fun, and tried their best to accommodate us.
Difficulty (4.5 Stars out of 5 Stars)
I really want to give this place a 5 star for difficulty. There were 3 teams in our group (we were doing a competition thing between friends) and all of us failed the Prison escape. Its teetering on the edge of being a little too difficult, in my opinion. We really needed the hints to solve at least a few puzzles in the Prison Escape, and I thought to myself, «no way someone can do this without hints.» Our group also did the Central Bank, and the difficulty level cannot be more perfect: One of our teams failed the room, another team escaped with 3 seconds left, and another team escaped with 5 minutes left. Central Bank really hit that sweet spot when it came to difficulty. The hint system was unique and really, really cool for both the Prison Escape and Central Bank.
Production Value (5 Stars out of 5 Stars)
The escape rooms had the traditional lock boxes, etc, with a little sprinkle of tech here and there. I really liked the set up in the Prison Escape, it was definitely prison like. The company did not skimp at all at decorating and setting up the room.
All and All I highly, highly recommend Fox in a Box. The location, the staff, the great puzzles, and sweet spot difficulty all made this place a must go if you are an escape room fan, especially if you live in the Fullerton area.

My husband and I have completed Central Bank and have unsuccessfully attempted Prison and Cold War Bunker (we still had a blast no matter the outcome!).
Central Bank: We have done this room at Room Escape LA and at this location. We much preferred the room at this location. The flow of the puzzles and the quality of the props were top notch. I enjoyed the linear progression of the puzzles; for this reason, I think this room is the best for beginners out of the three rooms. There are a few cool technological aspects that added a «Wow» factor and one little jump scare (no spoilers here).
Prison: Although we still thoroughly enjoyed this room, it was our least favorite out of the three rooms. There was one particular puzzle that wasted half of our allotted time – not because of any fault of our own. In my opinion, the owners need to revisit this particular puzzle, since the game master mentioned that this situation has happened to multiple teams. For this reason, I deducted .5 stars to the overall rating. However, there were some very clever aspects to the room and I enjoyed the physical aspect to this room. It is also worth mentioning that at least half of the team will need to crawl a little bit. Just tell the game master at the beginning and it shouldn’t be a problem.
Cold War Bunker: This room is by far the most technological room out of the three. We had so much fun in this room that we will probably come back at some point to complete the room. There is a good mix of number locks, magnetic locks, and physical challenges to keep avid escape room enthusiasts satisfied.
General notes:
–The owner and staff in general are awesome. We spent time before and after our games chatting about different escape rooms in the area.
–I like that you book the whole room as opposed to being paired with other people, especially when it is just my husband and I most of the time. It can get pricey for only two people (about $ 50 each), but it’s worth it in my opinion.
We will definitely be back when more rooms open!

Great job! This is our 11^th escape room and this is definitely on our top 3! We did the prison escape and man was this challenging. Safe for kids and to be honest the little guy helped out with all that common core knowledge! The room is well done and the ambience definitely makes it feel like you are in jail for real. The puzzles require teamwork and the clues/​hints given by the staff weren’t so obvious to keep you on your toes. Well done!

We’ve now done all three rooms ending it with the Bunker room. Wow!!! Everyone was engaged and it definitely took all of our brains to figure it out but we made it out! Awesome experience! I give these guys big thumbs up and I can’t wait to see their new room in June!

Came here on a Saturday evening as a group of six friends, and the experience was great! My friends and I did the State Prison room, and I must say that I was really impressed by how well-​designed the room was. However, I think what sets this place apart from other escape game places is the staff. The staff is really friendly, helpful, and they get in character (at least, for the State Prison room). I’ve been to other places where you can tell the staff is checked out or zoned out and don’t really care for customer satisfaction. Not here! It was quite enjoyable interacting with the staff both before and after.
Admittedly, two things are difficult about this place (but not necessarily Fox in a Box’s fault). Trying to find parking here on a weekend evening was beyond difficult. Some of us almost didn’t make it on time for our reservation because of this. The other semi-​difficult part was trying to find the place. Although there is good signage once you get near the entrance, it took a little while for my friends and I to find the place (even while looking at where we were on our smartphones in relation to the pinned location).
So, how did my group do? We actually cracked the State Prison room! The room has an 18% success rate, so imagine our joy when we finished with ample time to spare! As long as your group follows the advice and instructions at the orientation (prior to entering the room), you guys will have a fighting chance.
Thoroughly enjoyed it here, and we would come back again!

My group did the cold war bunker and didn’t escape. It was our first lost out of 5 rooms. We wanted to redeem ourselves and came back in an hour and escaped the prison. This place is located right in dtf. Lots of parking. I like this place because there are multiple puzzles where you need to work together. The puzzles are pretty linear also. The one drawback is that is the overhead speaker. You go back and forth to thinking they want us to do it a certain way but they meant don’t do that.
All in all I recommend this place and can’t wait to do the bank one

A truly amazing experience! This was my first time doing an escape the room challenge. I have always wanted to try one, and when my friends invited me to Fox in a Box, I am so glad and grateful that they did. I feel like their type of rooms pull you into the experience. My friends and I tried our best to escape the jail room and we definitely were pushed to our limits. Without spoiling anything, I will say that you will be mentally and physically drained after this one hour, but it will be so worth it.
After the experience, we even stayed half an hour more talking to Steven about how crazy it was. He was our game master and is an awesome guy! He is truly respectful and down-​to-​Earth. Due to the great customer service, I feel that this is a plus and shows that the staff cares a lot about their guests.
If you are thinking about trying an escape the room, this is definitely a location you NEED to check out! Thank you Fox in a Box, I will definitely be back in a few months!

I had a really great time with all the rooms at Fox in the Box: D I’ve been here four times (I failed one of the rooms with a group so I came back with my family to finish it) and each room was very well thought out and very well decorated!
My only issue was with the bunker where one of the puzzles malfunctioned for some reason but it was still a really fun room :) It’s a little pricey but it’s a lot of fun and they sometimes have deals on groupon so hoorah for escaping!
I hope they get more rooms soon so that we can try more

This was my first time and it was amazing… we did the Central Bank room and it was difficult but not impossible. We had an amazing handler Liz!!! She made the experience so mug better.
My friends and I will be back to do the prison room.

Let me preface with saying that I have a slight escape room addiction. But after 43 rooms and counting that has kind of made me an escape room snob.
This place is great. I’ve down their Bank Room and Bunker Room so far. Both rooms were strikingly different but followed the same overall system that I like. The puzzles are linear in nature, which will cater to your friends that are new to escape rooms. Having said that, there is never a point where people stand around doing nothing. So linear but still busy. I likey. The staff is super courteous and catering to your needs. The rooms look nice and don’t remind you you’re in an office building like some places that won’t be named.
Oh and I like how you can get a beer right after nearby haha. Just go!

I’ve done three different escape rooms and I can say with confidence that Fox in a Box provided the best experience for me.
There are three different rooms with varying themes and difficulty… our group decided to do the prison room. Loved the décor of the actual room, really sets you up to actually believe you are in jail. I thought the puzzles were a good mix of logic and «let’s try this method» to see if anything happens. By the time I left this one, I feel like another experience is in order.
Unfortunately, we did not escape prison, so I’m actually writing this review in my cell… :P All in all, very enjoyable experience.

Amanda and her puzzle masters are the greatest staff ever.
My group and I did The Central Bank and with the assisted help of Amanda, she made special arrangements and modified the game a bit so I can propose to my fiancé.
Epic proposal??? I think so … hahaha
The theme was absolutely great and the room was challenging but over all fun. Definitely a great room for team work and team building.
Overall, Fox In A Box is a great company and very accommodating. Our group will be back to do the other rooms soon.

This is the same company as the one in Hollywood (forgot the name, but it’s not Fox in a Box), so the rooms there and here are the same — so just beware. I did the Central Bank at the Hollywood location, so my friends and I did the Cold War Bunker. The room was a lot of fun, though there was a strange mix up where my Living Social was redeemed the day I made my appointment when it really shouldn’t have been redeemed until we actually used it. Even the woman on the phone said so.
Anyway, the staff who gave us clues (you can ask for one every ten minutes) was nice and helpful. However, every room I’ve ever done will go over the clues/​puzzles you don’t finish (we did not escape); some are really good and are very detailed, which I like. Here, the staff was reluctant to give us information on the clues/​puzzles we didn’t solve. I mean, we aren’t going to do it again, so I’d like to know exactly what we missed out on and how we could have done better to escape. That was one thing I didn’t like about this place. The second was that they charge tax. Since we bought a LivingSocial, we had to pay $ 2.60 each for tax on it upon arrival. I’ve never paid tax at any of the other 10+ rooms I’ve done, but maybe the other rooms build it into their price (though the original price of $ 33 pp did seem quite steep — I generally won’t pay over $ 20 for an hour at any of these rooms, Escape LA possibly being the only exception). We had loads of fun, though, and plan on doing the prison break next.
There are two large free parking lots, but good luck finding parking. It’s usually jam packed unless you come early. You might have to park in surrounding areas, but we got lucky.

My group did the two rooms they had open at the time: Cold War Bunker and Central Bank.
Cold War Bunker was a great room. The tech was fun and helped the puzzles flow. There was a clear direction but it was not too linear like some previous rooms we had experienced.
Central Bank was a lot more difficult for us. A lot of the puzzles for that room were not intuitive and not very cohesive — they required a very different way of thinking and were a little frustrating. I would suggest using a clue ASAP since you get one every 10 minutes and it took us a little while to get started on solving the puzzles.
The staff is great and fun, seems like they enjoy escape rooms too.
Parking can be difficult, you might have to park in the nearby neighborhoods and walk over.
Overall, Fox In A Box is a great company and we will be coming back for the other rooms!

We went back to do State Prison and enjoyed it! Changing my 4 stars to 5 because parking is not in their control anyway and, after having completed all three available rooms, the rooms are well thought out to cover all kinds of puzzle solving skills. No two rooms are the same, not even similar.

LOVED this place! I came here with my cousin, brother and friends and got 85% of the way through the bunker room and I’m dying to go back. The room was great, decoration wise, puzzle wise, and difficulty wise. There were so many props and everything really played a role. I don’t want to say too much to spoil it, but definitely USE THE HINTS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! You only get one hint every 10 minutes, so use it as soon as you think you’re stuck.

This review is for the Bank room.
I went with a group of 6, all first-​timers to escape rooms, and we all escaped with 4 minutes remaining and had a blast! Having been to a few myself before, I must say that this was my favorite room and experience!
The bank room was comprised of three small rooms, completed in the dark, and very well decorated. The props and puzzles were «high-​tech» compared to every other escape room I’ve been to. It actually really helped everyone feel like we were in a an oceans 11 heist!
They also have a different hint system that makes the game a little easier in my opinion (though they claimed the pass rate for the bank room was only ~20%). The puzzles themselves followed a linear progression and one required some outside knowledge.
All in all, fantastic experience. ¹⁰⁄₁₀ would attempt their Bunker and Prison rooms!

Well… it just goes to show that even if you hold the record for one of the rooms, you’re not guaranteed to even make it out of the next one. Just like in sports, it’s all about fundamentals.
Apparently an overzealous group before us decided to break the game, postponing our start time. Rather than play a broken game, we went for a beer (rough life). They repaired the game on site, immediately, and had it in working order for us. On a Monday night. At 7:30 p.m. That in itself is amazing.
Protip to all new escape artists: Stop pulling shit out of the wall.
