Gaithersburg Community Museum

On the outside, this looks like a really nice place to bring the kids until you notice the amount of vagrants that tend to hang around here. Good train watching stuff, just as long as you keep a head about whose watching you.
That aside, the town has really done a nice job at fixing up the displays which were really looking their age. Recently added an RDC and moved some of the other rolling stock out. (Our OLS caboose needs a paint job since we last did that back in 97)
Overall it’s a nice park, just need top clean house a bit with the seediness.

First checked out this site during Gaithersburg Day last fall ’11. I pass by the train station and the model train during a drunken stupor after drinking at Growler’s. My two-​year-​old is obsessed with trains and anything with more than four wheels. The museum is pretty small and tight but gives a lot of history to Old Gaithersburg, it’s pretty fascinating but even more fascinating to a toddler especially with the new addition of the restored «Budd Car» train. I noticed it a couple of weeks ago when it distracted from the observation of how fast the new apartment complex rose on the right side, I saw the shiny «new» train. I plan of taking my son up here sometime when it’s warmer and hang out in the Gaithersburg park. I love that Gaithersburg is making sure it’s past is not forgotten and built over with new shops and apartments.
