You can’t request overdraft protection over the phone?!! You have to come in or use online banking?! I really used to love my CU, but in the last couple of years they have really dropped the ball.

This is a review on the whole company as a hold. This Credit union doesn’t seem to be for people that 1. Make large deposits. And 2. Use the ATM card often.
So I deposited my pay check being direct deposit hadn’t kicked in yet. I was told there would be a 1 – 3 day hold on it. But it was put on an 5 – 11 day hold. So I couldn’t use that money until it was time for the next pay check.
Then I use my card to often so they put a hold on it. I called to have it taken off but the security team tells me they can’t lift it and I have to talk to my local branch. Of course this is the weekend so they are closed!
So I’m left with 20 bucks in cash for the whole day. The fact that no one could help and they seem to not understand how not being able to access my cash is dangerous!
So come Monday when I talk to the bank I won’t be lifting any hold off my card. I’ll be lifting all my money out that credit union

Securing the loan in person was smooth. Giving her more information over the phone was a breeze. And emailing the paperwork was a piece of cake. She went above and beyond to inform us of better vehicle rates and looked over our loan agreement before we signed on the dotted line.
This was the easiest car purchase transaction and we couldn’t have done it without her. This is the reason why do our business with LAFCU.

I highly reccommend going to this Credit Union. The environment is very comfy, clean and professional. If you need a Home Loan, Auto Loan, or to refinance a loan. I highy recommend you sitting down with Angela Justice. She’s a loan agent and does excellent work. She establishes excellent communication, explains everything thoroughly and makes sure you get the best deal on a Loan.

The Glendale and LA Mall branches are far superior to this one, but Gardena is closest for me now. The clerks here put holds on check deposits, that the clerks at Glendale and LA Mall don’t. When this happens, I just call Glendale and they release the hold. The parking lot for this location is also super sketchy. You definitely need to be aware of your surroundings when leaving the bank. The security guard is super friendly, but not confidence-​inspiring in the safety department!

My mother has been a LAFCU member since she started working for the City of Los Angeles 25+ years ago. As a child, and teenager, my mother warned against large banks and suggested, when of age, to open my first checking account with a credit union. I chose LAFCU because of their low and competitive interest rates. Their interest rates are killer and mobile banking is convenient, user-​friendly and aside from Wells Fargo, best mobile banking I’ve seen.

CUSTOMER SERVICE!
Customer service at the Gardena location is practically non existent. Everyone from tellers to loan advisers are unfriendly, dry, and impatient. Maria (and two others– one with glasses, the other has braces) are the only consistently pleasant and helpful employees I’ve encountered. Also, the security guard (wish I knew his name) always speaks, smiles, and holds the door for members. The other day, I watched as he walked a seeing-​impaired man to the car.
All in all though– I do recommend LAFCU to those looking to take out a loan or simply open an account. In this instance, pros outweigh cons.

Every time that I go here for anything I’m impressed by the Profesional and prompt service.

Very unprofessional Loan Adviser — This branch lacks people skills, please go to another branch.
I went into this branch to discuss my approved refinance loan. I wanted to get a better rate for my loan. I was approached by Janelle, she is a loan adviser there. I provided all the necessary financial details to her, that they did not have before, to get me a better rate. She did not even glance at any document i had with me. She outright told me that i cannot get a better rate due to my credit score in an unprofessional way.
I have an average credit score, with excellent history. I waited there for 1 hour to speak to some one, and she neglected me in less than 5 minute.
I went to another branch and got a rate of 1.5% lower than my approved rate. It may not seem much but for a 4 year loan, it is saving me considerable money.
So Janelle, please learn some people skills, after all you are working in a Bank.

I waited over an hour and a half for a replacement ATM card. The best part of my experience was the security guard. He’s been there for a few years and is always friendly, and professional. The parking lot is chaotic with the market and other stores on the strip. This one is closer to my house, but I’d much rather go to the one in Culver City by my work.

Very unprofessional. I went in to close my account. They thought it was funny that I wanted fees reversed on an account I do not use. It doesn’t hurt to ask it was just a question. The Precious looking teller and the very ratchet and poorly dressed «banker» were at the desk cracking jokes. I didn’t make a stink about it. I was just asking. I am happy to be leaving this credit union.

For the past couple of months, I have been trying to refinance my auto loan with numerous credit unions, banks, and other lending institutions. I have an 2003 Mercedes SL55 with about 30% equity but one after the other they kept on saying NO. Being a car over 10 years old, it was an issue with most lending institutions.
So I am not going to lie. I did not know anything about LAFCU. I did a online search for credit unions and called each of their loan departments asking if they provided auto loans for 10+ year old cars. Almost all said «no». Prior to LAFCU, I did apply at another CU and the processor took 2 weeks to finally tell me «no». It was for silly reasons that I explained at day 1. This other CU had very high Unilocal ratings but for me, I am not sure why they took so long. I applied online at LAFCU’s website and within a few hours, I received a phone call from the loan department saying «APPROVED». Initially I did not believe them but I was so excited. Based on the previous bad experiences, I did not want to keep my hopes up. I was informed to bring in my pay stubs, registration, and start a membership at any of their local branches. I could also do everything online but that would have taken longer.
I arrived at the Gardena branch and noticed there were a lot of customers in the lobby. I am sure it was due to a Friday of a 3 day weekend. The line moved very fast and Evelyn helped me on my loan. At first I thought I was only going to be there for 15 mins to drop off the paperwork and open the membership, but to my surprise, Evelyn had the authority to finish up the loan. Again during the whole 1 hour process, I was not keeping my hopes up. At the end, everything went very smoothly. I was offered other options for the loan but I declined all of them. No hard sell. Evelyn then mentioned that after 6 payments, I should try some of their other loan products. Compared to banks, their loan rates were very low.
At the end, when all other CUs and banks failed, LAFCU was able to provide an auto refinance at a rate that was ¹⁄₅ of my original rate. Now I can sleep at night knowing that I am saving a lot of money. Evelyn was great, she even deposited $ 100 into my savings as a promotion without me asking for it. In the future, I hope to do a lot of business with LAFCU. LAFCU and Evelyn, you are the BEST!!!

I’d like to say that I’ve never had a good bank that had the most friendliest and knowledgeable service! Samuel Chung, a loan MSR III was a very pleasant and helpful! These people go above and beyond! When it comes to customer/​guest services, they make sure to make sure we get the help me need and more! Thanks LAFCU!

I recently closed on a Refinance with LAFCU consolidating my 1^st and 2^nd mortgages into a low long term fixed rate loan. They were able to give me a very low competitive rate that beat all the lenders out there that I looked at. The best part was how quickly they were able to close on it! I was astounded! I’m not going to say which, but I work for one of the largest lenders out there and their processing time is over twice as long. I worked specifically with Ofelia Arzoumanian and her processor Maria Dominguez. So if you’re looking for a low competitive rate and want to close quickly (so pretty much everyone!), go see Ofelia and Maria at LAFCU~!

My home branch is located in El Monte, since moving to Long Beach, the Gardena branch is conveniently located and can take various routes to get here. I primarily use the ATM for deposits. I needed to enter the branch twice and the staff made me feel like I have always been a member of this branch.
The parking can be a hassle at times but it isn’t infuriating.

Haven’t gone into this location, but I use the ATM frequently. Note that it is part of a very expansive shared branch/​ATM network (check to confirm if your credit union is in this network). Use this ATM for deposits and withdrawals just as if it was your home credit union branch with no extra fees or hassles!
Parking can be a pain at peak hours due to the neighboring market and stores in this plaza, but other than that this place is very convenient!
