Really great first experience. The wait staff are really nice, and attentive, and had some great recommendations. The food was superb, and the few times I have gone, I’ve loved it! I kind of fell in love with their crab bisque, and I haven’t found a bisque that compares.(Seriously, what’s the secret??)

Came in around 800 on 4−20−16. Sat at the end of the bar closest to the kitchen. Service was pretty standard. I ordered a shrimp cocktail for an appetizer and a friend ordered 3 lbs of crawfish. The shrimp cocktail was outstanding. The crawfish my friend ordered was not to his liking. Apparently when you order spicy crawfish the water isn’t what is seasoned the crawfish are just sprinkled with nitro seasoning after being removed from the water however this doesn’t do anything for the inside of the crawfish and leaves no taste if you like to suck the heads. My friend ended up sending his crawfish back to get the seasoning rinsed off and the bartender had no problems taking care of the request. When I finished my shrimp cocktail I ordered the salmon cake special that was listed on the blackboard. The dish arrived quickly and was pretty tasty. The dish comes with two good sized salmon cakes, rice, and mixed veggies. I ate one salmon cake, and then went to take a bite of rice, and that’s when things turned for the worse! A roach either crawled out of my rice or from under the bar and ran across the bar top. It was moving away from my plate when I noticed it so I can’t say for sure where it came from. I lost my appetite at this point and pushed the plate away and scooted back from the bar in disbelief. Shortly after the bartender came by and my friend and I informed him of the issue. Then the roach reappeared as we were talking and the bartender killed it with a napkin, and nothing much else was said. The bartender then disappeared for about 5 minutes which I had assumed he had went to inform the management of this problem but if he did no one ever came out to apologize. The bartender finally asked if I had lost my appetite and I said yes and, and that I would like my bill. Then took my plate and handed me a bill and said they took the salmon cakes off the check. That was ok I guess but I still feel the situation could have been handled better. My friend and I doubt we will return to this location.

Every time I come here the service is awesome. My boyfriend and I always sit at the bar and either have Nate or Gio take care of us. Food is delicious, especially the oyster nachos. Side note; while we sat at the bar, a few waitresses were gathered at the kitchen window. One waitress stood out, complaining about a customer quite loudly, asking other servers to memorize the customer’s face. I used to be in the service industry and there is a time and a place to complain, and in front of other clientele is not one of them. If I was her manager, I would have pulled her in the back immediately. I didn’t see a manager around, however. This is the first negative experience here, so I gave a rating of 4 stars. Like I said, Nate and Gio are always awesome.

1st Visit: I ordered fish tacos to go and they were plain and greasy. I walked in and asked a waitress standing at the register that I had an order to pick up. She said the bartender would take care of it. I walked over to the bar but there was no bartender. There was a waiter servicing a table near the bar so I told him I had an order to pick up. He helped me with my order so I assume he was both a waiter and bartender. I picked up my food and left. The plate comes with four fish tacos and a side of rice. The rice tasted old and smelled fishy. The tacos come with a honey chipotle sauce that tastes similar to tartar sauce(it isn’t spicy if you’re looking for something spicy) and a tiny amount of slaw. I ate two tacos and threw away the rice. Later, I ate the other two tacos as leftovers. The tacos REALLY need something fresh like a pico de gallo or cole slaw. I ate the tacos because they were OK. I went on a Saturday night to pick up my food and it looked understaffed even though it wasn’t anywhere near full. After 1st Visit: Fish City Grill(FSG) contacted me about my first experience and gave me a gift certificate to give them another shot. 2nd Visit: I played it safe with something traditional– fried shrimp with fries and hush puppies. This meal was MUCH better. The hush puppies tasted great with the fried shrimp and fries. I also got a mango margarita. FYI Happy Hour before 7pm– I went on a Monday. Overall: I’m not sure if I’ll be going back. I went back because FSG gave me a certificate to try it a second time. I liked it better the second time but I played it safe and I’m not a big fan of fried food. My final rating is 3 stars– OK for seafood.

Really 3.5 stars. I was torn. Flavor was good, but we were given pretty small portions for the price. If I’m paying $ 14 for a plate of like 6 shrimp, please give me more than 6 fries. The crab bisque was on point, very tasty. I would come just for that. The hush puppies were also excellent. Service was quick and friendly.

We went tonight with a group of 9 that included four children. The staff was accommodating and cheerful, service was efficient and the food was terrific. The gumbo is first rate and the chipotle shrimp tacos are wonderful. We will definitely be back often. The relaxed atmosphere makes it a perfect family place to go.

Fish City Grill was serving up some pretty decent seafood. A group of us got there at a weird time on Sunday — in between dinner and lunch — so the restaurant was pretty empty. Score! I hate crowded places. I heard this place can get pretty hoppin’, though, during normal dinner times. The food was good, and I do mean good. We ordered the peel-‘n-eat shrimp to start and the shrimp were huge and fresh. We also got a cup of gumbo and the gumbo was actually decent — proper dark roux, plenty of meat, lots of flavor. I was impressed. I ordered the crawfish half and half, which comes with crawfish étouffée, fried crawfish tails, and rice. It was a huge plate of food and I ate every bit of it because it was delicious. I wasn’t expecting it to be so good or to have all the proper flavors, but it did. I was surprised. On Sundays, they have Bloody Marys for $ 3.50. We were informed that it does not come with shrimp on Sundays, which means it normally comes with shrimp?! Is that a thing now? I need to find me one of these shrimp bloody marys. The Bloody Mary was not too strong but it still put a little hair on your chest, just the way a drink should. Service was a little confusing… or rather confused. We asked for a cup of gumbo to share and so did our friends. Our friends also ordered an entrée to share. Instead, we were each brought a cup of gumbo and they were brought two entrées. It’s not terrible or anything, but it’s also not what we wanted or asked for.(I also found it hilarious that I was the only person at the entire table to get asked for ID. Forever looking like a high school student. When’s it my turn to grow up?) Our friends said that the fresh fish entrées are great and they list their daily specials on the chalkboard on the left wall — left meaning if you have just entered the restaurant. I’d be interested in trying some of those, but they also have red beans and rice here and since their other Cajun offerings were great, I’m really curious to try that dish. If you’re in Garland, though, you can’t go wrong with this option.

Food is great. I have tried several items on the menu but ways come back to the Honey Chipotle Shrimp Tacos. I always order them with the waffle fries instead of the rice they normally come with. The clam chowder is also excellent! They also make all their own dipping sauces.

Ordered the Honey Chipotle Shrimp Tacos and I asked for them on romaine lettuce. The staff had no problems feeling my request. Both good and service was great.

This place is a must for those who love seafood. I’ve gone here three times already and all my guests loved it. The prices are reasonable and they always have daily specials. My favorite is the honey chipotle shrimp tacos — cheap, delicious, and filling! Staff is very friendly even after all my questions and random order changes. They never fail on me! I will come again :)

Came here for Taco Tuesday. I thought we were going to get a great deal on individual tacos, but no, the price remains the same. The special only gets you an extra side. I wasn’t complaining though because I could hardly finish my meal without help. I ordered the fried tilapia fish tacos(although you can opt for grilled) with hush puppies and cheese grits. While the grits were palatable, coming from NC, it just doesn’t compare. The hush puppies were decent but they didn’t have any honey mustard! My dining companion ordered the honey chipotle shrimp tacos served on corn tortillas with a vibrant slice of avocado on top. At least they don’t skimp on the important things! The sautéed veggies looked pretty good but I have a rule about not eating veggies while on vacation. The seasoned waffle fries just reminded me of how much better Chick-fil-a fries are and without any special dipping sauces, I was disappointed. We were celebrating a friend’s birthday and our server brought over a brownie sundae complete with marshmallow topping and a lit candle. Don’t worry, they don’t sing or do anything to embarrass the birthday boy. Despite my onslaught of questions and peculiar requests, service here was great! No one gave us dirty looks to leave even when we were the only ones left in the restaurant. You know you’re outstaying your welcome when you start smelling the bleach water used for cleaning! While I’d never opt to come here on my own, it was a nice, casual place to catch up with old friends in a relaxed setting. The type of place you’d go with your parents on a weeknight, not exactly the type of place you’d take a date.

Eaten here three times and have always enjoyed the food. The service has been friendly and top-notch, but sometimes they are stretched thin. That’s why I gave them four instead of five stars

We came here the other night for a light dinner and it was only decent. Our server was kind and answered a ton of questions that I had. I ultimately got a catfish and shrimp combo, and let him have the kitchen prepare the fish like he would eat it because I couldn’t decide. We started with calamari, which was alright but it was mostly just fried bread crumb with a few calamari pieces mixed in. It’s served with a olive aioli which was tasty and a Thai dressing that was… weird. My fish came. The shrimp were tasty but there was only like 5 of them. The catfish were incredibly bland. It was two pieces and I didn’t eat one. I was hungry but… eh. The seasonal veggies were carrots and zucchini, they were cooked but hard to chew through. I needed soft veggies. So those were passed on too. The mashed potatoes though. I should have just asked for a plate of those. They were so good. I tried to bread pudding cause so many people on Unilocal recommended it. We also only took a bite of that and stopped eating. The texture was really odd and there was a most unpleasant aftertaste. We tipped well and then when we got home I ate a snack. I probably won’t come back here. There’s other places that do the same thing which provide more food for the price and I will actually eat what I order.

The regular menu is ok, with your standard fried seafood and various cold shellfish, but I recommend the chalk board specials. They seem like fresh selections. The sides are great. I would also recommend telling them not to go too done on your entrée. Like most suburban fish joints they can go a little too done to keep the soccer moms and kids happy. Special orders, side switching, extra plates are cheerfully obliged. Clean bathrooms, cold beer, and good weekly specials.
