Georgetown Palace Theatre

What a great time seeing Legally Blonde at the Palace theater! I was so surprised to find out the band had been hiding in the rafters the whole time! Great job to the cast and bravo to the puppies!

My wife and I love the Palace Theater and greatly enjoyed a previous show, Young Frankenstein, there… But tonight we were really disappointed by a musical production of Legally Blonde. The main characters were off key, and it was painful at times. It was very difficult to make out the lyrics during the songs. I don’t know whether it had something to do with the microphones the cast members were wearing. There seemed to be little chemistry between the lead characters (which also seemed to be a problem in the previous play we saw there, Camelot). We left at intermission. We love the fact that there is good local theater here, but we will be more careful in our decision to attend the next production.

Saw Legally Blonde yesterday. So much talent! What a fun show. Palace hasn’t disappointed us yet. The only problem yesterday was that the band seemed too loud for the beginning numbers… it was difficult to hear the singers.

Saw Camelot last night with my wife… absolutely wonderful! Sat front row center and the seating was perfect! The performance was fantastic, well staged, and all the actors were spot on with their accents, acting, and especially their singing! I’ve been a fan of Camelot for over thirty years and this was one of the best performances I’ve seen!
The theater itself is also wonderful. All of the staff are very friendly, and I don’t think there’s a bad seat in the house! If you love live theater, take in a show at the Palace Theater… you’ll have a great time!

I grew up in Georgetown and remember coming here to see movies as a kid (ET and Annie in the 80s!). When the theater closed then made a comeback to preserve its historic nature, we put on a show to raise funds for it. I was in that show, oh so long ago (Georgetown Area Community Theater). I think I was 14 at the time! So this place has always been special to me.
I absolutely love what they have done with it. The renovations were fantastic and really kept the feel of the original beauty of the place. I’ve seen several shows here and they have always been first class. If you’ve never been to a live show before, treat yourself to one at the palace. The tickets are affordable and almost every seat is perfect.
We sat on the front row for one of the kids musicals. It was an up close and personal view of the actors’ feet, but we were able to see everything. Kids really loved it. So my preference is rows 3 or above even though my daughter didn’t mind the first two rows.

Saw my third fantastic show at the Palace (Jesus Christ Superstar, Anything Goes, and Spamalot) The talent and the amount of work at the theatre is truly amazing and we are so lucky to have this GEM of a theater!!! Highly highly recommend seeing any shows there and plan to see everything that plays! The Directors are rotated, the casts are rotated but there is definitely magic in what this theater is bringing! Thanks Palace!!!

Just saw Jesus Christ Superstar which is there for several more weeks. They are adding matinees b/​c it’s so great. Really, really enjoyed it and it far exceeded my expectations! The Jesus character/​singer is phenomenal and has an awesome rock opera voice and is the perfect rock-​Jesus. He was mesmerizing to watch, the dramatic scenes brought tears, and his voice is perfect. Powerful to watch. Plan to see again and to watch their schedule for their shows! Georgetown town square gets more charming by the year and combined with the Palace makes for a perfect night out.

Worth the drive from anywhere in Williamson County. The entertainment and venue will exceed your expectations. HINT: arrive early, walk a block and have dinner and drinks at The Hollow or Ruby K’s so you won’t have to wait for a table at Wildfire.

We absolutely love this place. I have seen several shows there now, and the performers are top-​notch and full of heart. I like that they have both musicals and regular plays. Many shows are family friendly, and if you want to see one that you don’t want to take the kids to, All Things Kids on the square offers babysitting sometimes– check with them for details! The seats are comfortable, although the very front row is perhaps not the best viewing if you can avoid it. I do wish that they would figure out a way to offer better refreshments (wine and cheese!:)) during intermission.
I also can’t recommend their educational programs and camps highly enough. Our 11-​year old has grown by leaps and bounds over the past year and has had a blast. The people at The Palace are friendly and welcoming to all who come through the doors!

This is a huge bargain! High quality shows for $ 25/​ticket! «Always, Patsy Cline» was one of the most enjoyable performances I’ve seen in years. Anywhere. Check it out!

Love it! It’s an old theatre with a great feel to it! You have to go to this little gem of a place.

The Palace Theater is becoming a wonderful addition to ATX theater goers. Years ago the Palace appealed to the small town community theater crowd, and these folks are quite loyal and forgiving. Now, the Palace has grown into a formidable member of the regional theater community. Stellar casting and quality productions.
The theater has a days-​gone-​by appeal and is very comfortable. There is not a bad seat in the house, even the balcony feels up close. Sound is fine wherever you choose.
Be sure to get your tickets early, this is a small theater and shows do sell out.

For both the theater and the show, I give both 5 stars! I love the small town feel of Georgetown and the Palace Theatre seems so iconic. I can only imagine coming here in 1926 when the first silent films were shown… or during the World War II era and watching film reels of what was happening on the frontline like the ones they show’d in your AP European History class in high school… or during the 70s/​80s when the community theatre successfully performed whatever hit new Broadway shows were out… and here we are in 2012 and the art of theatre is still a treasure to be cherished! I am a big proponent for keeping the arts in our school because it is what defines us, and local productions like those performed at the Palace Theatre are just as or even more vital to our culture than the big productions in NYC. The theatre itself has a beautiful art deco feeling and although the inside of the theatre had that quaint feeling, I was surprised at how modern it is as well… the audio was great and you can hear the dynamic voices of the actors perfectly, the set design was just as fantastic and creative and did not look «cheapened» down at all, and the local actors who performed were simply extraordinary. Although a fan of musicals more than plays (I saw Spring Awakening at the ZACH theatre last October… great venue, great play as well!), I like to see a play now and then and lo and behold, «I Hate Hamlet» was the first production for the Palace Theatre for the calender year. We decided to go opening night because the energy of an opening is fun and exciting. The bar at Wildfire was crowded (in a good way!) for pre drinks (and YES the one sad face moment for the Palace Theatre is that there don’t serve alcohol at all! So be forewarned if you go, they only sell water, soda, and candy bars at the little snack stand there… not even wine! …so get your drink on at Wildfire beforehand!). The theatre was packed and I assumed esp since it was opening night, it was filled with big donors and supporters, workers, and probably other actors. The play was a comedy so it was great to hear the audience laughing…“I Hate Hamlet” is one of those clean type crude humor… The dirty jokes were not really dirty but I got the punchline kind of play… and come to think about it it is kind of kinky to think of some old lady diva trying to have sex with the ghost of of her former fling lol… anyways I digress. I believe the next production is Singing In the Rain and I can’t wait to see that production as well in March… what a great way to say goodbye to winter and welcome the spring weather! Thanks Palace Theatre, you are a historical icon I hope will continue to be alive and running for years to come!

Tough decision… Do I review the theatre from the point of view of a patron or from the point of view of an actor. I suppose patron is more appropriate because considering Unilocal’s mission, but maybe I will slip in some actor comments in case there is someone considering making the change from audience member to cast member.
I have seen a number of shows at the Palace, and I have to say — with the exception of the first two rows — I love the space. I have sat center orchestra, side rear orchestra, and mid balcony and was happy with all of my seats. The rake of the audience is steep enough that you never really have obstructions.
Overall, the theatre is well budgeted, so you can expect some innovative set designs (Cabaret), and some beautiful drops (Christmas Carol), not to mention some magical casts (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels). As with all theatre companies, there will be a range of shows with a range of talent in a range of roles, so not every one will be a home run. I have been extremely impressed of late. Cabaret was dense as it was gripping, lyric as it was talent forward. A Christmas Carol was a good choice for the theatre, not because it’s a crowd pleasure, but because they picked the best version to see: the Flaherty/​Ahrens compositions. Most other versions make me want to bring harm to Tiny Tim. This was was sheer pleasure. The three ghosts were perfectly cast and very balanced across one another.
As a actor — from WAY back, I was pleasantly surprised with my experience at the Palace. Dare I say I was treated even better than I was when I was supplementing my income with an acting career? Oh yes, some equity theaters I have worked don’t have the decency to turn on the hot water so I can wash my face before applying make up! At the Palace, I can definitely say that I was treated well as every turn. When it rained, tarps were immediately installed so we’d not get wet (separate buildings). I have worked in theatres where heat is a four letter word. At least at the Palace, we can get some warmth when we are rehearsing. Rehearsal schedules are rather lengthy for my taste and experience, but then again, I take full advantage of all the extra rehearsal time when I am lucky enough to get cast in a show. Evita was my first go-​round and I could have performed it many more times. That’s how exciting the experience was. And we sold out lots of show!

Love this place!
My daughter attended a summer camp there and absolutely loved it. It was by far her favorite camp this year and we will be back for many summers to come! Price was fair, hours were decent for working people, and the experience she had was amazing. (And I drive from Pflugerville to Georgetown back to Austin to work and will happily do it again in summers to follow)
Tonight was our first real production to see. Wizard of Oz and it was outstanding. The entire performance was awesome and surpassed my expectations.
Definitely recommend!

I didn’t know what to expect from this theatre but as Jessica S. said, it’s a super cute! I wish they served more than sodas and candy bars, but I guess we’re not really there to eat and drink. I’m so spoiled.
Balcony seats were great and Evita! was even better. Jim L. blew all our socks off in the role of Peron – or heels, I guess – he blew off our heels!
Bravo!

Full disclosure: I went here only to see a friend (and fellow Unilocaler!!) to perform. I probably wouldn’t have gone here otherwise. But, I’m so glad I did. It’s so super cute!
Full disclosure: I did not buy the tickets. The purchaser of our tickets could have chosen the balcony or the second row and she chose the balcony. They were great seats. We could see everything and only had to lean forward slightly when Che was stage right. Or is it left?
Full disclosure: I tend to find the positive in everyone. But I didn’t have to look hard at all. The workers were so friendly and sweet. Even the nice woman who sold me an Orange Crush made me smile with her sweetness.
Full disclosure: I can’t carry a tune in a bucket, but I love musicals. Evita was no exception. The cast and crew did a wonderful job.
I highly suggest this theater. It’s big enough to feel special, but small enough to feel cozy.

The Palace Theatre is a wonderful place to go see some local talent and really enjoy yourself! The ticket prices are very reasonable but depending on the play, you have to get them quick, as they can sell-​out fast!
(There are some great restaurants w/​in walking distance of the location, so you can enjoy a great dinner and drinks before or after a play.)

Thanks to Ernesto for putting this gem on the maps. Georgetown Palace Theatre is a small venue down Austin Avenue, one of the main streets running through historical downtown of this small city, which contrary to common knowledge, is exploding at an exponential rate. EXPONENTIAL.
That said, I love me some musicals. Palace Theatre is actually a troupe of local actors who work and live in central Texas hill country, like most of us would. Except that when they get off work, they get to play dress up and sing their hearts out. Sweet gig if you ask me.
I came here with a friend to see Jesus Christ Superstar, and you’d be surprised how informal the actors’ costumes are. But that is what’s special about this group. They don’t worry too much about the appearance, but rather the content of the play. Don’t let that ‘locals’ label throw you off: these people are par with Phantom of the Opera & Ragtime performances. Cliff Butler gave Judas a depth that tugged at your heartstrings: even when the spotlight was on a conniving clergyman or Christ himself, I couldn’t help but look to see Judas’ expressions. Butler can ACT. Wonderfully done musical.
The coolest part of Palace Theatre? Audiences can meet cast members by the stage immediately following the finale. We were too nervous to speak with Judas, but we found out Jesus works at Dell.

I went there because this beautiful small town had a version of «Cats» the musical. That is a very ambitious project; I wasn’t expecting much, but I love when I’m proved wrong. The voices were not great but in general I was pleasantly surprised of their production. They were truly awesome.
My second experience there was to see «A funny thing happen in the way to the forum» I was again amazed of how well they prepare for this shows. Very professional and the theater itself is in great shape and something to be proud of. Great work for all the people involved in all this projects.
I recommend this place for all the people that like a relax atmosphere and a great show, you won’t be disappointed.
