Specialties

We manufacture our own interior plantation shutters & blinds, as well as all varieties of exterior shutters. We are also a Priority dealer of Hunter Douglas shades & blinds. We have the only start to finish manufacturing facility in Central Texas and have the flexibility to handle any type of shutter applications. Our Plantation shutters are custom made from basswood, custom painted with any paint manufacturer you want or even custom match your existing trim color if you do not know the paint color used. We also provide fully custom matched stain. Customers approve samples of both paint and/​or stain before their shutters are installed. We also install Huper Optik window film.

History

Established in 1993.

In 1993 Southern Shutters & Blinds opened its doors as Southern Shutters. Then in November of 1997, we moved into our present day factory at 12 804 Beltex Dr. in Manor.

After 10 years, in 2003, with increasing demand for blinds, we added our own private line of high quality 2″ and 2 ½″ wood and faux wood blinds. That same year, we added the «& Blinds» to our name. Then in 2008, we opened our first showroom. We have been providing the full line of Hunter Douglas products since the beginning of the company. In home consultations for shades and blinds usually consist of product and color selection. The Showroom in Georgetown allows our customers to see the full product line, which includes full sized products for customers to demo.

From the start of our company, to the present, we continue to provide true local products for Texans, by Texans.

Business Owner

Owner/​plant manager –Been in the shutter business since 1989. Learned the craft from the ground up working for his family owned window covering company in Dallas before launching Southern Shutters in 1993. Utilizing his degree in production management from the University of North Texas, he built his production facility in Manor (10 minutes east of Austin) where he has drawn local talented professionals to supply Central Texas with a full variety of window covering options.

Our shutters are Gorgeous! The carpentry work was precisely done and everything operates smoothly. The stain is also a perfect match to our wooden window sills. I also appreciate how respectful the installer was of our home and how thoroughly he cleaned up afterwards. If only I had more windows to have more of these custom shutters made! We recently moved to Liberty Hill and we had called several places for quotes on roller shades. We could not believe how much people were charging! It was ridiculous. Not only were they overpriced for no reason they were rude and did not answer questions very clearly. Mark and his company went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable with my order. It took a few weeks to get them in, and I happened to be in CA for a family funeral. My husband was home when the installers came and he was so worried they were the wrong color. Mark was on the phone with both of us going through the quote and all of the notes to make sure it was correct. It was all right, and even after that he said that if I didnt like it he would order the colors I wanted and I didn’t have to worry. This is a great company I really am glad I chose them. I love my roller shades by Hunter Douglas! The service was outstanding!

So bummed to see some negative reviews for Southern Shutters. I read those reviews and they seem fairly unwarranted. We got custom plantation shutters installed a couple years ago and they did an amazing job. We have an older home that needed a lot of updating – popcorn on the ceiling, ugly lighting, old aluminum windows, and so on. Our plantation shutters were probably the best investment we made on updating our home. Hand built and excellent quality. Plus the customer service/​communication from start to finish was A+. They were always here when they said they would be, they were helpful answering questions, mailed me paint swatches to choose which shade of white I wanted, etc. There WAS a 6 – 8 lead time to get the shutters installed because they had other jobs ahead of us and then you factor in the build time. But we had long lead times with pretty much all the companies we worked with, from windows to a/​c. We got the shutters in the summer which must be their busy season. and it’s a good sign when companies are busy, in my opinion. Anyways, I would highly recommend these guys to anyone. Two years later, shutters still look perfect and give our house a classy and elegant look.

They no-​showed on our appointment at our house, lied about appointment time, lied about coming to our house, and failed to follow up.

Too often only people with complaints will post reviews. I like to make a point of always recognizing superior service. This company deserves all five stars. From the showroom through production and to installation, every employee has been professional and helpful.
Questions were answered immediately. The people who came into my home were respectful and careful. I love the look and quality of my shutters. We had shutters installed throughout our home, which is a big investment. The quality is apparent and so adds beauty and value to our home.
I would definitely recommend Southern Shutters & Blinds.

Not sure why it’s taken my so long to write a review, but I have nothing but good things to say about Southern Shutters and Blinds. The quality and fit of the finished product is amazing. We’ve now completed our whole house with custom plantation shutters from Southern Shutters and couldn’t be more pleased with the final outcome. The shutters are stunning, and add a level of Southern charm to our home that no blinds or other window treatments could ever provide. The shutters are also fantastic at keeping the cold out and the heat in during winter, and vice versa the rest of the year. And mind you, we have dual pane, low-​e vinyl windows, that do a great job on their own. But when complemented with our plantation shutters, it’s a very noticeable difference.
The company rep that came out to our house was courteous, kind, and down to earth. And even though we took a few years to finish the whole house, we always dealt with the same sales rep, which speaks volumes about a company. In fact, they’re such an honest company, that they honored the original quote prices they had given us a year prior when we came back for our second of three orders, even though their pricing had gone up. Talk about customer service!
I simply can’t recommend Southern Shutters and Blinds enough. They stand by their work with a lifetime warranty and they have been a real pleasure to deal with each and every time.

I have had nothing but trouble and disappointments with this company. Last year I did Hunter Douglas silhouettes for my master bedroom and bath. They arrived with the wrong pulls. They had to go back to the manufacturer and I waited months. I prefer to deal with local companies so this year I gave them an order for similar shades in the rest of the house. Three rooms are fine. The fourth came in too long and is back at the factory. I have temporary shades which do not cove the entire window thereby exposing my furniture to this Texas sun. This order was placed in May. They do not return phone calls. When I did reach the owner, Mark, he told me he would check on my order. I am still waiting.

Excellent company. Excellent service. Excellent quality.
We recently had our shutters installed and we couldn’t be happier with our experience. Everything went smoothly throughout the whole process. I had a few different companies come out to our home and give us quotes, as a stay at home mom of 2 my time is very limited.
They did not call or email everyday after the quote, which some companies did, not impressed and I can’t stand those who pressure on sales, especially with how much good shutters cost. There was zero sales pressure.
This company speaks for itself, from the moment they walk into your home to the moment they’re finished installing.

After getting quotes from a couple of places earlier this year, we decided to go with Southern. We put shutters along the front of our house, and the whole experience was excellent. They did exactly what they said they would, when they said they would, and the quality is outstanding.
Recently we went back to them for the back of our house, and it was just as good an experience the second time.
I can’t recommend these guys highly enough. They’re outstanding.

We have a western facing wall of windows in our downstairs family room, which means a lot of sun in the afternoon. It was so bad at that I thought I would have to get a welding helmet to be able to navigate. We tinted the windows when we moved in, and had the normal 2′ vinyl blinds installed, but that only partially resolved the issue. The windows are in an arrangement of two rows, with the bottom row being 42“W * 60“H rectangles. The windows above them are the same 42“W, but the ones on the outside are quarter arches, (think 90 degrees of a circle), and the one in the middle has a half circle at the top of it. We thought we would never be able to get blinds for that top row, due to the shape of the windows.
Earlier this summer, we came into some cash in the course of our mortgage refi; not our original intention, but Wells Fargo screwed up the paperwork, and what was already a 2 month process would have taken another 2 – 3 weeks. With this money, we thought we would finally take a look at getting wooden blinds for the windows, upper and lower. We called most, if not all, of the usual suspects in the area, and either heard that it couldn’t be done, or were presented with a price that caused me to tell them that it wouldn’t be done (by them). Southern Shutters was the only company that said our needs were a bit unusual, (the 42″ width, not the arches), but that they could certainly do it. And the price they gave us was fair.
I can’t say enough about the quality of the work, and the professionalism of the Southern Shutters employees, from the quoter to the two guys that came and installed the blinds. We couldn’t be happier with the product, and now can be in our house in late afternoon, without thinking we are stuck in a tanning bed!
