I stop by Cannonball all the time and am always impressed by the nice and inviting staff. They carry Turkey Hill ice cream and are very generous with their servings. I hadn’t actually ordered anything to eat until today, but really enjoyed he chili dog I had. The bun was tasty and held the hot dog and chili easily. The chili was thick with nice chunks of beef and the onions I asked for were nicely minced. I enjoy stopped my in for ice cream often and will now start stopping in for meals as well.

I updated my review and bumped up my rating upon discovery that Turkey Hill is indeed a local source of ice cream, even if it has grown from its origins in Lancaster to international proportions, and is now owned by a national conglomerate. This store has a friendly staff and a cheerful vibe, but the food did not impress me. The ice cream served is, to the best of my knowledge, Turkey Hill, a local brand, but other, more interesting locally made ice cream is available within walking distance of this location. The positives: I enjoyed talking to the staff and I perceived that the feeling was mutual. Pretty much all the basics are available to the average customer looking for a quick meal. The negatives: For being in a choice location downtown with enormous foot traffic, it was notable that there was nothing notable in this store. I wanted to like it just for the sake of being a cute ice cream shop, but despite my best efforts, I couldn’t, especially as there are more interesting ice cream joints around town. My wife and I sampled the food and ice cream, and although I was satisfied, the thought of returning just wasn’t exciting to me. Conclusion: My suggestion to the owners is to provide something unique and memorable to future customers. Whether this involves specialty drinks, an interior renovation(«check out the artwork in this place!»), pinball, jukebox, or something else, I don’t know. But something is needed to bring me back.

My husband and I stopped in while we were visiting Gettysburg for the weekend. We were not impressed. The management had mentioned that they only opened for the season a few weeks prior and perhaps that explains the quality of the food. My burger tasted of old meat. My husband’s ice cream tasted like freezer burn. The bun on my burger was not fresh. The least offensive part of the visit was the cleanliness of the restaurant(or lack thereof). The ketchup squeezer was greasy as was the salt and pepper shakers. The carpet is old, tattered and crumby. Now I could see the ketchup, salt and pepper shakers being greasy after a days work, but they had just opened the shop for the day when we arrived. Another irritating thing is that you pay $ 2.95 for a soda that is 90% ice and they do not offer free refills. That is just wrong. The one positive finding was that the french fries are made fresh to order and arrived hot and salty. They were good. Considering there are so many other ice cream shops in town, we will not go here again.

A good product in a good location. I had a very pleasurable Sundae experience with the family at one of their sidewalk tables. As for the review that called this place a ripoff because he could make a malt cheaper at home… how silly. Of course you can because you don’t have a lease on a storefront in downtown Gettysburg so we can get one from you on a hot summer day while shopping along the square. When I was there the prices were clearly marked so if it’s more than you think it is worth, DON’T buy it. Certainly don’t buy it and then complain about the price.

Flavorless burger. For $ 6.50 they not only deprive you of fries, but don’t bother bringing you a plastic fork. Way too heavy handed on the mayo/mustard/ketchup combo. I’m sure there are better places to eat in Gettysburg than this.

Loved it. They were so incredibly friendly, no one seemed overwhelmed at the large group of us that piled in. The prices were really comparable to other ice cream shops in the area. 3 bucks for a small cone, but this small cone is HUGE and takes some time to finish! The atmosphere is friendly, the vibe is old fashioned. I’ll definitely go again!

Delicious malt, friendly and helpful staff(even minutes before closing) and the prices aren’t anything to blink at.

If this was prior to a year ago, I’d easily give them 5 stars, no question about it. I went to Gettysburg College for 2 years and spent many of my dollars(totally worth it) on their delicious malts. Any flavor of ice cream tastes amazing as a malt(try watermelon!), and the family who runs the business was always super friendly. However, I visited Gettysburg September of 2008. I’m Jewish, and I was wearing a Star of David necklace that day. Nothing flashy, just a tiny little star. I really hope I’m wrong about this, but again, let me reiterate that the family was ALWAYS nice, but when the father saw my necklace, he automatically had a scowl on his face, whispered something into his daughter’s ear, looked at me again with a dirty look, then walked away. The daughter had this deer in the headlights look on her face. She served me, and was friendly. I asked my boyfriend(who was with me) about that, but since he didn’t go to Gettysburg and experience this place in the past, he really didn’t have much to base anything on. Again, I really hope I’m wrong about this, but the father’s behavior was very suspicious, considering he’s always been such a gentleman. I hope to go back again sometime soon so i can test this again and see what happens. So, 5 stars overall, lose 2 stars for possible anti-semitism. If anyone from Cannonball can respond to this, I’d be really happy. Again, I hope I’m wrong about this.

Everything here is overpriced. All their ice cream are Turkey Hill ice cream that you can get from grocery stores for about 3 bucks per half gallon. But here, you end up pay almost 3 bucks for a small cone. I got their famous chocolate malt(that’s what they said), very expensive, almost 4 bucks for a small 16oz, 5 bucks for a 20oz, and almost 7 bucks for a 32 oz. It’s just made from Turkey hill chocolate ice cream, milk and Nestle Malt, what a rip off! I can make the same thing at home, and even better. Well, Don’t waste your money there!
