Carmen Ohanian, DDS

I have been going to Dr. Ohanian for about 5 years now, and I can honestly say, she is the best dentist I’ve ever been treated by. Like many, I’ve had my share of bad and horrible experiences with dentists, and ALL of my experiences with Dr. Ohanian and her staff have been pleasant and great from start to finish. Christina at the front desk is always so warm and friendly, and all of the hygienists are very gentle and make you feel comfortable. Dr. Ohanian is extremely personable, and takes the time to talk to you and answer all questions that you may have. She is very gentle during procedures, and talks you through everything she’s doing, meanwhile asking if you are OK along the way. She always makes sure you are comfortable, and that puts you at ease. She is also sensitive to your finances, and will help prioritize any work you may need, aside from the routine cleaning, being mindful of your insurance coverage, (i.e. what work needs to be done asap, vs. what can wait until the following year).
I truly trust Dr. Ohanian, and I feel safe and comfortable with any work she performs on me. I can’t imagine seeing any other dentist. Even though finding a new dentist would make more sense (geographically), I still drive all the way from Rancho Cucamonga to Glendale just to see her because I refuse to go to anyone else.

I have been going to Dr. Ohanian for years. From the moment you step into her office it’s a warm experience until you leave! Her staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and really take their time with each patient. Dr. Ohanian herself is kind, personable, with a great bedside manner as well as a great ‘hand’ at dentistry — she knows her stuff and how to take care of all types of dental problems! I would recommend her to anyone whole heartedly. Thank you, Dr. Ohanian and staff!!!

I chipped my veneer and It looked really bad, I called California dental group (where I got my veneer done in 2012) they did not honor there warranty so I was looking around for a good dentist, I came across Dr. Carmen which I’m glad I did, I called Thursday afternoon around 5pm, she gave me a n appointment for next week but I told her the situation I’m in she game me an appointment next day 9 AM, this place is awesome and high recommended

I understand why most people are afraid to go to the dentist, however, if you have someone like Dr. Ohanian as your dentist you actually don’t mind going in for a check-​up. She has been my doctor for years and I always feel safe and comfortable upon walking into her office. She has a very friendly staff, who are always eager to help, an extremely clean office; located in a very nice building on Brand Blvd. She is very gentle with her cleanings and Xrays, but beyond everything else she is very kind and takes the time to listen to her patients questions and concerns. I am so lucky to have such a great dentist!

I have been going to Dr. Ohanian for years (so long now I don’t remember how many!) and I’ve never had any bad experiences. She’s always very friendly, gentle, professional. I’ve received excellent treatment, from regular check-​ups and cleanings, to cavities and even crowns and one root canal (which she didn’t do herself, but referred me to another dentist close by who also did an excellent job). Although she’s usually fairly booked up, I’ve also been able to see her on an emergency basis. I have nothing but positive comments for Dr. Ohanian and her staff!

Let’s just agree that going to the dentist isn’t always a fun or pleasant experience, but this office makes it seem like a breeze.

I had a quick, thorough, and painless cleaning from Dr. Ohanian. I liked that she explained everything she did as she did it so there were no surprises.
The other dentist in the office, Dr. Alenush Bernardi, is also patient and gentle. She replaced a filling for me and it was about as easy as dental work gets.
The front office staff is also professional and courteous.

It’s not gonna be the most pleasant experience but I got what I wanted. Dr. Ohanian was quick and straight to the point. She was nice and even apologized for the pain while scraping the plaque off my teeth. After I rinsed my bloody mouth she made a few recommendations about my teeth and had her assistant polish my teeth. Quick. Easy. I just needed the cleaning. The only thing that was really unpleasant was the x-​rays. I usually could breathe through my nose but their particular way of taking x-​rays was too much for me to handle. The pieces that you bite on was very very uncomfortable as I do not have a big mouth. A little bit of encouragement would have helped during the uncomfortable x-​rays, but whatever. No co-​pay with my particular insurance. I’ll be back for a filling and then my routine cleaning. Her office gets busy. I had an appointment at 3PM, and I was seen with the x-​rays first around 330PM — 345PM.

I was really disappointed with the service that I received. Dr. Ohanian cleaned my teeth in less than five minutes. I wish I could say it was because I didn’t have a lot of plaque on my teeth. Rather, she aggressively and hurriedly scraped the plaque off while making my gums bleed the most blood I have ever seen come out of my mouth. In the past, dentists have spent a lot more time with the scraper and gone much slower and gentler. The polishing was done extra quickly as well. I seriously felt like I was just another client to get through. They didn’t ask me about myself or even simply say, «How are you?» I used Unilocal to select this Dentist and I’m really sorry to say that my experience was entirely inconsistent with the other reviewers. She was nice but a few minor changes could have made my experience a million times better.
UPDATE: A recent visit back for a small cavity filing was a completely different experience. The waiting room was not busy at all and the staff did not seemed rushed. Everyone was really friendly and Dr. Ohanian took her time with the filing. She was really thorough and patient. This experience was in contrast to my first visit. It may be that when they overbook or have too many clients in one day, the services are much different.
UPDATE (about 9 months later): I have had so many problems with the cavity filing. Another dentist had to fix my bite and then redo the filing because there was a void. Still having issues with biting down and with tooth sensitivity. I’ve had filings before and never had this many issues :(.

I totally agree with the other one star reviewer. I was hoping his review was not true, but it was true (except Dr. Ohanian scrapped my teeth during the cleaning and did not use a water jet as the other one star reviewer mentioned). I usually go to Dr. Trudgeon in Mission Hills, but recently moved to Glendale. I decided to go to Ohanian based on the 5 star reviews here — you guys do NOT know what a good teeth cleaning should be. Dr. Ohanian literally only took 3 minutes to clean my teeth and the cleaning was very brisk and painful. I KNOW what a good cleaning should feel like and this one was VERY painful and way too fast. When I rinsed my mouth out after the cleaning there were blood clots coming out into the sink. I take good care of my teeth so there is no reason for the amount of blood and pain during the 3 minute cleaning. At Dr. Trudgeon’s office a hygenist cleaned my teeth and always took at least 15 minutes — she was gentle and removed lots of plaque every time. Next time I will drive to mission hills to my previous dentists office. People, a teeth cleaning should not be very painful (maybe just a tiny bit) and should be done at a slower pace and more carefully. DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR!!!

I have been going to the dentists for the last 15 years and Carmen Ohanian is the WORST of all. My bad luck that my insurance changed a month ago and I decided to give her a try. All the positive reviews are left by her staff. Generally, a dentist would spend about 15 – 30 minutes cleaning your teeth. She spent only 2 minutes, used only water jet, no flossing or scraping, simply nothing and my mouth is sore and paining badly. I got my teeth checked 3 months ago and they were fine. Suddenly, according to her I have a cavity and she was forcing me to book an appointment. I have only this advice for you if you are reading this. AVOID HER LIKE A PLAGUE.

I found Dr. Ohanian through Metlife (you have to pick a primary dentist) and I couldn’t have hoped for a better experience. I had a terrible time with a shady dentist 2 years ago in San Diego and avoided dentists like the plague after that. I was really afraid to go back to one!
Well, I can say that Dr. Ohanian was the polar opposite of my previous dentist. Her office was full of up to date equipment and very clean/​peaceful. The doctor was really knowledgeable and honest about the health of my teeth. She didn’t diagnose fake cavities or try to sell me random junk for teeth issues I don’t actually have. She just told me to keep using a soft toothbrush and do what I’ve been doing.
The hygienist took a zillion x-​rays of my teeth. It always hurts to have those big plastic things pressing against my palate but she worked quickly so the discomfort didn’t last very long. The dentist took a look at my teeth and x-​rays and happily exclaimed, «No cavities!» I think I could’ve passed out from relief. Dr. Ohanian cleaned my teeth very thoroughly with the help of her super nice hygienist. She used some weird vibrating tool and was honest when she told me it may make my teeth feel sensitive. After the cleaning the hygienist polished my teeth and then I was good to go. Best part of all– my dental insurance covered everything. I didn’t even have a co-​pay.
So awesome. For once I’m looking forward to going back to a dentist in 6 months.

I’ve always been nervous about dentists, especially since I’ve had a string of them who sucked my bank account dry with onlays, overlays, crowns, root canals, and other «preventive» measures that they insisted I needed… so I decided to find (yet again) another dentist. I did a lot of searching a saw reviews for Dr. Ohanian describing exactly what I was looking for — someone who only did procedures if they were needed.
I had my first visit with Dr. Ohanian today and she was everything I had hoped for — she didn’t try to pressure me into cosmetic changes or «preventive» fixes. She examined my teeth and said everything looked fine. I was shocked. I thought for sure she was going to recommend I replace my older metal fillings esp. for one of the teeth that had been bothering me. She looked at the x-​rays and examined the tooth closely, doing different tests to see if there was anything wrong with it. She said the tooth was fine and the reason it hurt was because the root was receding and that sensodyne would help. I told her another dentist told me to replace my metal fillings and she responded by saying the problem with doing dental work when it isn’t needed, is that you lose more of the tooth. She said to come back if it still hurts in a couple months and she’ll look at it again, but she was pretty confident that it was fine. And that was it, I couldn’t believe it.

I love Dr. Ohanian. I have tricky teeth which is a long and boring story. However, I feel like dentists like to take advantage of me because they can try to up-​sell me on things that aren’t really neccessary.
Long story short: I went to another dentist when I first moved here who tried to get me to do the deep scaling cleaning. I didn’t trust him at all so I looked on Unilocal to find another dentist. I found Dr. Ohanian, went to her and really trust her. She did a good job and I feel like she is an honest and knowledgeable dentist. I really recommend her.

I was looking for a dentist who would a) accept my insurance and b) not try to con me into getting unnecessary, expensive dental work. Ohanian fits the bill. I went in for a check-​up and cleaning; the dentist cleaned my teeth herself, since they had a lot of scale, and gave me a clean bill of health (my last dentist claimed I needed thousands of dollars of dental work). She’s also the first dentist I’ve seen in years who didn’t try to sell me cosmetic dentistry. My impression is that this is a pretty bare-​bones practice, so this probably isn’t the place for you if you want to see your teeth on a video screen or get cosmetic dentistry.

Seriously the nicest dentist ever. Any time she would numb me she would apologize for the pain. Very sweet lady

I love my dentist! She is the best, I’ve been seeing her for many years, she was recommended to me by a close friend, it’s hard to find a good dentist that you can be comfortable going to. I see her on my regular scheduled visits 2x a year and she is nice and honest, she doesn’t tell me any bullshit to try to make money off of me like other dentists have. I just had my teeth bleached by her and she did a great job, although I’ve already stained them. My only complaint is that she is so popular it’s often hard to get an appointment, the staff is all very friendly and attentive as well.
