History

Established in 2012.

Kate’s Tutoring has been in-​the-​works since 2006, informally taking clients all the while! It was more recently solidified into the growing business you see here today and the plan is to take off and offer all kinds of tutoring for you and your student!

Kate is originally from Maryland. She graduated from high school a National Honors student in three years. After graduation, she attended Boston University with an academic scholarship and majored in history. Completing the program again in only three years, Kate graduated cum laude with a Bachelors in History. She loves teaching English, reading, writing, literature, and language as well as all courses in history!

She is a rounded academic who came out to Los Angeles to act — so you can rest assured that her personality is pretty click-​able! Kids love her, but she also gets results. Results like over a 100 point raise on the SAT II in only 10 hours of tutoring!

Kate is a certified teacher (+livescan background check), K-​12+, and has over six years of tutoring and classroom teaching experience.

Kate is so great! She has a fantastic blend of smarts, ability to quickly connect and hone in on where the learning needs to take place. She worked with my son to prep for middle level ISEE. He made so much progress over the time he worked with Kate. She was really easy to coordinate with and she was flexible with schedule and location. She was always well prepared and got to work with my son within a minute of sitting down. She’s a talented teacher especially with writing, reading comprehension, vocabulary (but covered math really well too) — pushes for a high bar, while remaining positive, keeping a sense of humor and keeping it real (she doesn’t let any time get wasted in excuses or fussing around). Our family had a really great experience with her. High recommends for Kate!

I can’t recommend Kate enough. We engaged Kate to help my son take already solid SAT results to the next level, and to say that it worked — in the course of a relatively small number of tutoring sessions — would be an understatement. His score increased almost 200 points into the 99th percentile (but who’s counting?). Kate is not only a subject-​matter expert, but also a master of pedagogy. She really connected by son to the material and made him more more confident in the test, but also in himself. Kate was also extremely flexible and was able to give my son a session via Skype the day before the test. A+

My daughter was having trouble with her 6th grade math. Kate walked into our house and immediately made a connection with her, and got to work! Even though we just used Kate for the last month of school, her tutoring made a difference in our daughter’s last bunch of tests. My daughter really loved working with her and looked forward to Kate’s visit. Kate is friendly, smart, punctual and very professional. I highly recommend her!

After my son took the PSAT, we had an idea of where he needed help before taking the SAT. I did a lot of research on SAT companies including Compass and Varsity Tutors. These were very expensive, but it seemed to me that what you were paying for was the middle man connecting you with tutors. Sure, they «train» and screen tutors, but I thought I could do the screening on my own.
So, I decided to cut out the middle man and go directly to find a qualified tutor. I spoke with a lot of tutors before deciding on Kate. She is no nonsense and definitely knows her stuff. She knew exactly what to focus on with my son.
The results? In one of my son’s «weaker» areas, Reading, he scored a perfect 800 on the SAT. Not only that, but he scored higher overall than some of his friends who used the really pricey tutors. :)

My son needed some help with the writing portion of the SAT. We were both very pleased with Kate’s tutoring. She was pleasant and informative. My son felt comfortable with her and she taught him a lot and gave him some great pointers for the exam. He ended up raising his writing portion of the SAT by over a hundred points!
