Gigi’s Closette

Since I posted my first review, I’ve had multiple experiences with other dress shops. This place is simply awful. I’m so glad I didn’t spend money here. I encourage anyone who is in the market for a dress to shop around. The staff is rude and there is much better service to be had elsewhere at better prices.

This place is terrible. The sales ladies are extremely unhelpful and rude. Go elsewhere.

I had an OK experience looking for dresses at this location. The dresses are beautiful, but the lady helping us got annoyed with me when I told her my budget was $ 1000 She pretty much told me that I wouldn’t have any luck there. We looked around and I tried on a few dresses anyways. I noticed the women became uninterested in me when right when I informed her I wasn’t planning on buying that same day either. Overall, I felt unvalued and uncared for. The dresses were nice. But the service could of been much better. I also didn’t like that pretty much everyone I took with me could see me changing. I wanted the element of surprise when coming out to show my family and friends each dress I tried on. The dressing room was in the corner behind a big mirror. But everyone sitting on the only couch upstairs could see me still. Not ideal.

Getting my dress from Gigi’s was the best decision I could have made. I went to 3 stores before going to Gigi’s. I enjoyed my experience so much more here than other places. At all the other places I went to, you have to schedule a hard to get appointment, you’re limited to an hour, and you’re limited to trying on 4 – 5 dresses that you don’t get to pull yourself… I hated it. When I go shopping for regular clothes, I dislike when people pull things for me — they don’t know my taste, and that’s why I also didn’t like those other places.
Gigi’s was my bridal dress playground. They have a variety of beautiful dresses on their floor, that you have the freedom to pull from and try on. Did I mention you don’t need to make an appointment and they don’t rush you out of there?
Not only is their setup and selection great, the people that work there is what makes it one of a kind! Sue and the other women that work upstairs in the wedding dress section are there to help you as much as possible. I’ve been known to be very indecisive — so picking out my dress of course wasn’t any different. When I was flustered during my decision process, Sue did an amazing job of providing her thoughts without being pushy or telling me exactly what dress to pick. Boy am I glad I listened to her thoughts — my dress was PERFECT for my day and so me, and she knew that. The seamstresses are absolutely wonderful as well. My dress was a detailed lace and she did a beautiful alterations job that made the dress fit my body perfectly. And last but not least, Gigi herself is a sweetheart. She was there and supportive for every step of the dress process. She has so much experience in this family run business. Gigi’s Closette is a gem! I really recommend this store for people who want flexibility of picking dresses and a warm/​inviting environment.

I went to Gigi’s over the weekend to look at bridesmaid dresses for my wedding and was so impressed! We didn’t have an appointment but they were able to get us right in. We were greeted by every single employee that we crossed paths with and they were all so pleasant and helpful. I had an idea of what I wanted and the ladies were able to offer multiple great suggestions without being pushy or coming on too strong like you sometimes find at other bridal shops. I didn’t find the color I was looking for and Gigi went out of her way to contact the manufacturer and see if they had something similar to what I was looking for and followed up with me right when she had an answer. Not only do they have an amazing selection of every style, color and fabric you can imagine but their service and attention to detail is amazing. I had been to 4 other bridal shops within the last year and this one truly topped the charts. Kudos to this wonderful place!

I can’t say enough about Gigi’s. The store is an institution on the North Shore! I’ve been going here since I was in highschool (I’m in my 30s!), and I’ve never been disappointed. Not only do they have the most wonderful gowns and accoutrement, the staff is beyond helpful and friendly. I went in today looking for a dress I saw at a different store, and it was hanging right in front of me! I think it was fate. Especially when I found out the dress I saw at the other store was a knockoff! To pay so much money for a knockoff, is ridiculous, especially when it’s $ 500+, I’m so thankful Gigi called the manufacturer to confirm, I’m happy to bring my business to her.
I highly recommend Gigi’s Closette, you won’t be disappointed with your experience!

One of the best places in Chicago to get a fierce gown… and a butter burger next door at Hackney’s!!!

I really wish I could give no stars. I came to Gigi’s to try to shop for my wedding dress. Upon arriving at the shop we were rudely rushed upstairs (where the Bridal dresses are). Once upstairs, I was approached by a small but intensely pushy woman named Sue. Sue took all of my worst fears about wedding dress shopping and made them a reality. She must have called me a «big girl» at least 15 – 20 times. She continued to try to force me into awful hideous dresses that, according to her, were made for «big girls» like me. I tried to tell her what I was looking for (which I eventually found somewhere else; lace, form fitted, long sleeve) and she abruptly, forcefully and angerily informed me that I am «too big for a dress like that», continuing to push me towards awful ruched satin gowns. I wear a street size 14. I shop at Macy’s, GAP and Nordstrom with no problems. I spent 20 minutes in this shop with Sue, and was made to feel as though I were the largest girl in the whole wide world. It was truly awful. I will undoubtedly need months of therapy to undo the damage that Sue did in the 20 minutes I spent at Gigi’s Closette.
I would not recommend this shop to anyone with any kind of body image issues, regardless of your size. There are much better shops with more supportive, helpful, and caring sales people.

If your idea of dress shopping involves being yelled at by a woman for doing everything wrong when you don’t know what you should be doing in the first place, by all means, head here!
We made the mistake of making this our first stop for wedding dress shopping. The woman we met with could best be described as crabby and angry. She had us pick out the gowns we were interested in trying on. When we tried to stop and try on dresses, she insisted we pick more because we had to try them on all at once. Thankfully my friend was there to help me in and out of dresses because this woman left us alone, except to come by and yell at us every few minutes for putting things in the wrong place.

I came to Gigi’s twice in one weekend. Over all I probably spent 3 hrs there between the 2 days. Maggie was extreemly helpful and hard working. She listened to what I had to say and made sure that I didnt go over budget. She worked tiresly trying to meet my accomidations.
On the second day that I came in I basically started my search from the beginning. Maggie happily helped me and another bride to be. Going back and forth making sure that we were happy and satisfied. Luckily I did find a dress that I loved! There was no pressure put on me to buy it. Both Maggie and Gigi gave me time to make a decision.

Wonderful find! Staff was friendly and very helpful. The assortment of unique dresses is amazing. I purchased my dress my second visit and can’t wait to wear in in April.
Highly reccommened.

Back in January I went to Gigi’s to get a dress for my aunt’s wedding, and yesterday I went back to buy my own wedding gown and the service was FANTASTIC! Magdelena was so helpful and so knowledgeable about the dresses. She wasn’t pushy, she didn’t hover too much, and she was NEVER rude. She let me pull whatever dresses I wanted, and when I found the one she was just as excited as I am, and it wasn’t a fake excitement either. She was seriously better than I could have imagined. I wish I could give her a raise or something! They have an excellent selection at Gigi’s, and the entire staff is just very good at what they do. It is obvious that they love their jobs, and that it makes them happy to make brides happy.
Added bonus: found dresses for my 8 bridesmaids while I was there. Killed two birds with one stone!
I HIGHLY recommend Gigi’s. Great service, great selection, and I have a BEAUTIFUL gown that was easily within my budget. Excellent day.

I popped into Gigi’s because of its convenient suburban location in search of bridesmaids dresses in a teal/​jade color.
I’ll say this: there’s no shortage of staff or help here, though the women seemed a little disorganized in the dividing and conquering between the customers they were going to help. I had 3 separate ladies approach and try to help me, all of whom invaded my personal bubble when speaking to me, to the point that I thought one was going to give me a congratulatory hug on my upcoming nuptials… that almost got VERY awkward. Sales associate style ranged from gruff and off-​putting to sincere to scatterbrained.
Gigi’s did have some sample dresses in the shade I was after, and I was happy to have my bm try on some of the said dresses, but here’s a huge dislike: they cut the tags off, so you don’t know who the designer is. I didn’t really pay attention to whether the price was there bc I wasn’t planning to order with Gigi’s, based on my other impressions.
It’s ok for some window shopping, I guess!

I was nervous about going to Gigi’s Closette after reading some reviews — however it was nice to just be able to stop by (no appointment) and the lady who worked with my was awesome!
I was able to try on a bunch of different styles — and the woman working with me was so knowledgeable and excited to help me find things. I was so shocked that we got through so many dresses! They also allowed us to take pictures and answered all of our questions.
It was also nice that the upstairs was all devoted to wedding dresses — one side had more realistic prices dresses, and the other side was couture. Oh! They also let you pick out which dresses you want to try on. It was SOO much fun to have my mom and maid of honor pick out a couple dresses for me to try on =)
We are definitely going back here in a few weeks — maybe even for mother of the bride and bridesmaid dresses!

I had a wonderful experience here. You can not make an appointment, but as soon as I came in I had people helping me locate the dresses I had looked up ahead of time, and Judy started helping me find my dress. They had a large selection and a beautiful sale rack where the dresses were beautiful, undamaged, and nicely priced. Each of the people I worked with were helpful and courteous. Judy did not try to push me in a dress out of my range and gave me honest feedback about what I looked good in. She even suggested trying some of the bridesmaids dresses that come in white and are more affordable, but still found me a gown that fit my budget and my style.
I feel like a lot of the reviews on here don’t take into consideration much of what you would expect from a bridal store. Of course you have to pay for rush delivery and alterations. Of course if you come in on a weekend they are going to be busy and you won’t get the same level of service if you set aside time to go in during non peak hours. After going to multiple stores, I was more than impressed with how well they worked with me.

This store seems to have a pretty good selection, but it wasn’t such great customer service when I called specifically to ask if they had flower girls’ dresses in a particular color– peach– and the woman on the phone said yes. Then, when I got there, I found the same woman, who told me to look at styles first then she’d check to see if they carried it in peach. I selected about four or five dresses I liked, and lo and behold none of them came in peach! In fact, none of their flower girls’ dresses at all come in peach! She should have just told me that on the phone… instead of just not checking at all.

I really wasn’t sure what to expect when I came in since I saw the mix of reviews on Unilocal.I first contacted Gigi’s over the Internet asking about Alfred Sung dresses and received an email within an hour confirming the dresses. I excitedly called them and spoke to a very gruff woman on the phone who had NO idea what I was talking about and I had to repeat myself several times.
Luckily, I got a call back from someone the following day and confirmed the dress styles with me and when we went into the place, Rosa was amazing and really super helpful. They had the dress styles there — they didn’t have the exact color but the fabric swatch was available. Overall, Rosa was really great and very helpful — thanks again!

I can’t say anything about wedding dress shopping — I got mine elsewhere — but we did find my bridesmaid dresses at Gigi’s. The women who work there have obviously been there a loooooong time and not much has changed. They were a little rough around the edges to work with. The selection of dresses was great and I honestly liked not knowing what the brands were while we were shopping. I think we were a little less biased that way.
Gigi herself is VERY customer service oriented and really sweet. If you can ask to work with her, I highly suggest it.

I’ve been in here 3 times; twice to help my sister and BFF for their wedding dresses, and the most recent time to look for my own dress. Yes, it looks like your sassy grandmother’s house where everything is purple including the carpet, and if you can look past the décor and their «semi private» dressing rooms, you might have an ok experience here.
The first floor is where all the special occasion and accessories are, the 2^nd floor is all the wedding related dresses. When you get upstairs, one side of dresses is under $ 2000, and the other is $ 2000+. They have 1 rack of «plus size only» dresses, 1 rack of flower girl dresses, and 2 racks of bridesmaids dresses.
I walked in without an appointment, and Magdalena was still able to give me a lot of attention. She was happy to hear what my style is and always had on a smile, even though she brought me a handful of dresses I adamantly said «no» to without even trying on. She is truly a sweet lady, however, I did not end up buying a dress here.
They have a seamstress on site who can add bling, straps, cups, you name it. Also, they do have a strange policy about not disclosing the dress designer until you purchase it (at least for bridal gowns, not sure about other dresses). Makes it hard for any consumer to trust that their prices are fair.

I had just come from a fabulous appointment with Doris’ Boutique in Highwood where I had found a wedding dress I reeeeally liked, but since it was my very first stop in dress shopping, I didn’t want the fun to end, so we grabbed lunch and kept the fun coming… until we got to Gigi’s.
My bridal love and joy balloon was popped.
My mom and I walked upstairs and there was a woman looking at coupons as we wandered around trying to find a saleslady. A minute later, Ms. Coupons offered to help us. She was gruff. She was curt. She was EXACTLY the opposite of what every blushing bride to be wants!!! I hated the presentation of the dresses. I hated how Ms. Coupons didn’t offer to help me get into the gowns and how she half-​heartedly tried to clip me into them. I practically wanted to run out of there. Learn some customer service! My reviews on Unilocal are usually 3, 4, or 5 stars. It is not often that I have such a bad experience. Beware. And keep your bridal balloon inflated by avoiding this place!!!
