Description

Specialties

The name came from the story of a circus pony who was trained to do one thing and one thing only. Sometimes people joked and jeered at the pony, but what those people failed to realize is that in life, it is better to focus on one thing, and to do it well than to focus on many things and be a master of nothing. At One Trick Pony, we share a similar philosophy. In this case, our «one trick» is providing you with the best dining experience that we can deliver. Currently celebrating our fourteenth year as a restaurant, we are quite sure that we’ve mastered our «one trick.»

Our setting in the theatre district is perfect for families, couples, business or group events. We have a chef driven kitchen with homemade soups, pastas, pizzas, sandwiches entrees‘ and salads with features daily. Catering is Available!

Every Thursday is «Acoustic Stew» and during the school year we have the Special Saturday Night Shows, call to reserve for dinner reservations! There is NO COVER! See Facebook or go to www.onetrick.biz for details.

History

Established in 1996.

The buildings that house One Trick Pony are historically significant as the taproom was originally Oliver Bleak’s General Store, built in 1856 & has been certified as the oldest continuallly occupied business in Grand Rapids. The east building was built in 1885 and the home of H.A. Wilson’s & Dwight Upholstery & Tack Shop. These old walls have played host to17 different businesses over the years. The signs throughout the building pay tribute to those who helped to shape early Grand Rapids.

In 1996, with the help of local musician, Ralston Bowles, Dan Verhil opened the restaurant to be a place where musicians could come out and perform and be supported by other local musicians. It has become an incubator for new artists and a favorite place to play for many local musicians. All concerts are free, but dinner reservations are recommended. Every Thursday is «Acoustic Stew» and during the school year we have the Special Saturday Night Shows, call to reserve for dinner reservations!
