Beckman Bros., Inc. Heating & Air Conditioning

These guys are great! I called American Weathermakers to fix my furnace at the beginning of February and was horribly disappointed. I called John at Beckman Bros and they came out with the part and fixed it. I had heat in less than 8 hours and they charged me half of what AW was going to charge. They were friendly, helpful, flexible and totally affordable. I won’t make the mistake of calling another company again. Only these guys!!!

After a number of excellent experiences working with this company its time to write a review. I love working with Beckman. I’ve done the heavily marketed HVAC companies and a few smaller companies and Beckman is by far the best experience I’ve had.
I’ve replaced a furnace and A/​C unit and have had my boiler serviced a number of times. The pricing on the HVAC system was very reasonable compared with a number of other companies I received quotes from. The installation was done in a professional manner and a they delivered everything they promised. The system has worked great.
I originally found Beckman because I needed a second opinion on my boiler. It is a 8 year boiler and one company quoted a crazy number and also suggested I might replace. Beckman came out, got everything working perfectly and laid my concerns to rest. The cost, less than $ 200.
If you want to work with an owner operator driven small business (yet big enough that they have resources and can get things done. i.e. 24 service, competitive pricing on big jobs) that seems like they actually care about there customers, give them a try.

After a bad experience with a different HVAC company, I found these guys on Unilocal and decided to give them a shot.
Every technician I’ve had out so far has been outstanding. They’re polite and thorough and their prices are good. I do a service contract with them so they come out every fall/​winter to clean my furnace and AC unit.
Highly recommend.

We’ve been using Beckman Brothers for years (I’m guessing about 15 years) to keep a relatively old furnace going. We’ve never had a complaint or felt that we were overcharged, and we’re particularly grateful for how they’ve accommodated our busy schedules. We’re not particularly close to Grayslake but as far as their service goes they might as well be across town.

Beckman Bros. came out to our house today after our furnace stopped working.
I called Beckman Bros. this morning (a Saturday) and they gave me a service window of 9 – 11 am. At 9:05 Martin was here and, within an hour, we had heat! He corrected a couple things that we wouldn’t have been able to do ourselves and made a few suggestions that could help our furnace function more efficiently. He was very professional and friendly. Pricing was reasonable. We will definitely be using Beckman again!

I haven’t written a Unilocal review for a couple of years but had to write something on our experience with this dishonest company.
I called Beckman Bros for a routine furnace service maintenance, primarily to check out my humidifier that didn’t seem to work. They came out the next day while my wife, her mother, and two very young kids at home. The service guy checked out the furnace and immediately told my wife that for liability reasons, we needed to turn off the furnace while he was in there. The reason being, was that the heat exchange was cracked and omitting carbon monoxide. He said that it’s not recommended to run our furnace especially at night time with the two young kids.
My wife got extremely worried especially because we’ve been running our heater since October! He said we really needed to replace the furnace immediately. Needless to say, I was feeling really bad letting my family live through this and wondering if my kids would be ok inhaling carbon monoxide for 5 months!
While the guy seemed very knowledgeable, we wanted to get a second opinion. We actually ended up getting a third opinion too as my mother-​in-​law contacted someone also because she was so worried. Both the second and third opinion service men told us there was nothing wrong with the furnace and there were no cracks in the heat exchange at all! They pointed it out and also took pics inside. Sure the furnace was old and not as efficient as new ones are, but working perfectly.
It’s really upsetting and absurd that a company like Beckman Bros would use scare tactics, such as carbon monoxide, to get customers to purchase things from them. This seemed like one of the investigative stories on ²⁰⁄₂₀ or Dateline you always see about being ripped off. They could have just told us that the furnace is really old and not efficient so recommending replacing; which is what the 2^nd and 3^rd companies told us. We seriously would have considered it as we always are looking for ways to save money.
The guy quoted us 3 separate prices based on the efficiency of the furnace and AC. The quoted prices ended up being more than 2x of the quoted price from the other 2 companies. When we told them that Beckman Bros were quoting us $ 9,800, they were shocked and very confused and really couldn’t believe a company would try to pull that.
All in all, it was a great lesson learned. We will be replacing our furnace and ac, but it will not be through Beckman Bros.

My furnace stopped working on New Years Eve and instead of them coming out on a holiday I was walked through over the phone how to fix the issue myself. What a awesome business, I will continue to put my trust and business their way.

Needed my furnace serviced and was having issues with duct work on second floor. Beckman was able to come out on a Saturday which fit my schedule. They were quick to diagnose the issues with the second floor and performed service on the furnace. I like establishing a relationship with companies that provide service for home related matter. Beckman appears to be an honest and good company and I feel comfortable using them again in the future and recommend their services to other homeowners.

After a recent flood, my HVAC system had been fully submerged along with a portion of my ducts. They were quick to come out, assess the situation and present options. Their prices were fair and their solution to my need to reroute some of my ducts (at my request) was great. They completed the job on time and at budget.
I had a lot of questions especially since I was working with my insurance company and John and his crew made everything as easy as possible. I can’t say enough positive things about this company and highlight recommend them!

I wouldn’t hire them after speaking to their receptionist this morning (5÷9÷14). Nearly all of these positive reviews are over a year old. I have to think that something has changed in that year.
I called for A/​C service was then put on hold then a very rude women came on the phone. Through the coarse of the short discussion she made it clear that she was doing me a favor by working for me! Too many contractors out there to deal with crabby, disrespectful receptionists. Look elsewhere. If the service is this poor before they have your money, what will be like after?

Called right at 7:30, tech was sitting in front of the furnace by 8:20. He was very kind, upgraded our ignitor to a better designed part and cleaned many of the parts on the inside of our unit for free. Class acts all the way around. I highly recommend them and will call them for all of our future HVAC needs.

I have never received such great service in a difficult situation! I called late at night and said I had an «urgent situation», not «emergency situation» and they still called back within an hour. I was given a window between 7:30 and 8:30 am for when they would show up, and the repairman showed up at 7:30 on the dot. As it turns out, the furnace was fine but he still checked over everything and did some preventative maintenance and I was only charged $ 75 for what was originally an «urgent» call. A++! I would not hesitate to call them again for service or installation work.
On a side note, it was also refreshing to have a serviceman who didn’t wreak of cigarette smoke! I just had to squeeze that comment in. :)

Glad I found these guys on here. My a/​c went out all of a sudden yesterday and so I was in a panic trying to find a «reputable» hvac company because this week called for close to 90 degree temps.
Called and Brian came over within the hour. Right away he was able to tell what was wrong and luckily, he had the part. In his truck.
When he was checking the furnace he heard some noises, checked it out and turns out the fan was loose. He also gave us recommendations for when we were thinking of purchasing a new unit. Very knowledgeable.

These guys are FANTASTIC. My air went out this morning. (Sunday of July fourth Weekend.) I called at 9:45 a.m. and my call was returned within fifteen minutes. The service tech was here within 30 minutes. He was very polite and friendly. Told us everything he found, what the prices were going to be and what he had to do to fix it. I LOVE this company and will never call anyone else now for my heating and cooling needs. Thanks guys!

After our AC went out we contacted Beckman Bros and I have to say they were fantastic. When setting up our appt. they gave us a window saying that they’d arrive between 12 and 2 and they arrived a few minutes after 12. Then they were able to quickly identify and correct the problem for a reasonable price. Not only that but they check everything else out to make sure there wouldn’t be any other problems with the AC and then they even checked our furnace too. They were incredibly thorough and not only that, but they were educational and helpful too walking us through everything they were doing, checking, and repairing. We learned stuff about our AC and furnace system that we didn’t even know. And I will say they didn’t tell us this to sell us anything, just to make us aware. We will definitely use them again and I would recommend them to anyone.

I can’t say enough great things about these guys. A couple of weeks ago my air conditioning went out. I called and spoke to the owner on the phone who gave me an accurate and fair estimate. He sent a serviceman out that day. He arrived exactly when they said he would. He targeted the problem; my air conditioner needed a capacitor. He didn’t have the part on his truck so he called another serviceman who had the part and brought it over. He arrived in only twenty minutes.
They had the whole job done within a half hour. I was blown away by their professionalism, honesty and competence.
Flash forward a week. The weather drops and my heater goes out. I called Beckman Bros again and tell them the problem. I set up an appointment, with the receptionist. This time the owner calls me back and tells me how to fix the problem myself while we’re on the phone. Turns out I just needed to clean off the ignition piece. He could have charged me to come out and fix it, but instead he took the time to help me out. That sealed my loyalty.
I’ve dealt with other companies that are so unreliable, incompetent, and who set up appointments then just don’t show up. I don’t know about you, but I won’t be at the mercy of these guys who are total hacks and frauds.
Beckman Bros. is the best. If you need someone to work on your heating or air conditioning call them.
Five out of five stars: they’re awesome.
