Star Smog Check

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CARE HERE. I took my car to get a smog check, and they informed me that it failed because a hose was loose. They showed me the loose hose, and I went and bought a clamp so that the hose was no longer loose. I bring it back to this place and they say that they still can’t pass it unless I get a new hose, even though my hose works just fine. They print out the inspection report and the report says that Fuel Evaporative System has been «tampered» with, which is why the car failed smog. I have never «tampered“with anything, so this makes no sense. I then take the care to a place I trust in Daly City. This place tells me that several hoses have been disconnected leading to the air box. I ask «How could this be? How is it possible that these hoses came disconnected?». They tell me that if I’ve never messed with the air box, then Star Smog Check most likely disconnected the hoses to be able to fail my car and make more money off of me. DO NOT TRUST STAR SMOG CHECK. THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF, TAMPER WITH YOU CAR, AND CHARGE YOU EXTRA MONEY. You’ve been warned!

Star Smog had me in and out in no time, even with a couple cars ahead of me in the garage. Very efficient and cost-​friendly. Highly recommended for that quick smog check you’ll need to renew your registration.

I haven’t had to take my car in for a smog check for seven years. I remembered how dreadful the smog check process was in the past, so I had been putting off getting the smog check done. With the registration deadline looming I finally bit the bullet and drove to a smog check place in San Rafael. Unfortunately, I forgot my paper from the DMV. The employee insisted he couldn’t do anything without the DMV paper, so I drove back home to get the paper. I didn’t feel like driving all the way back to San Rafael.
I remembered passing by this place the last time I went to BevMo, so I decided to check it out, and I was glad I did. The employee was friendly and talkative, and the smog check was done in less than 10 minutes. I mentioned the Unilocal special and the cost was quite reasonable for my 2010 Honda Civic.
I would definitely go back here again and recommend this place to my friends.

Nate is the coolest Smog check guy in Marin. Fairly priced, knocks it out fast, and gave me a discount as I mentioned I was a repeat customer.

i have multiple older cars (1960 — 1999, BMWs, MBZ, Fiat, et al) which have the potential to be hard to get to pass smog, especially when Star is required.
I have taken a couple of my cars here, as well as my wife’s little BMW 318i sedan.
Nate gives upbeat extra people oriented service when he is there.
But all people I have met there so far have given good and honest advice about the best process to get an older car to honestly pass the Star smog when required. (Even if in smilelessness)
Given that the CA officials keep tightening the screws down on places where there might be some favorable latitude, these guys give amazingly good service.
I will be taking another couple old sports cars to them soon.
I would like to see these guys stay in business. so have also been referring friends.

By the way, what’s up with biannual car registrations? Did the DMV lose the prior year registration? How many times does one have to «register» to be registered??!
And Smog Checks, come on now, I certain my little Honda Accord is making far less «pollutant» than that Chevron refining plant across The Bay over in Richmond… do they have Smog Checks!!! If not, they should!

Can not think of any reason why you’d go anywhere else. These guys are quick on/​off 101, my car was in/​out in 15 minutes, and price is competitive with anyone. Of course I forgot to mention the Unilocal discount, but will remember for other vehicle.
Owner was cheerful, polite, and engaging. Not a «take the money and run» operation. Even offered the use of the equipment to check the output on an older model vehicle that doesn’t need smog certification.
