I wish I could give zero stars. I am visiting from California and wanted to go in and shop around. The open sign was clearly visible so I walked in and was RUDELY told that they were closed and to leave. Maybe you should flip your sign or something? Came back to my car five minutes later to see people in there shopping. This lady shouldn’t be allowed to have a store.

This place in past years was okay. They had a bunch of random, kind-of-cool products and it’s been a Greenport staple for years. However, the last two times I entered this place I was followed around(perhaps because they thought I was going to steal something, I don’t know) and watched(literally, the store clerk was about 6 feet away from me the whole entire time). I left uncomfortably, but this store has fallen apart anyway, so no big loss. I won’t be going back.

Every year I have visited the Arcade Department store in Greenport during the summer and have generally been satisfied by the experience. It used to be a fun store to buy house goods in. This year was drastically different and appalling. I was in town to see the Tall Ships and decided to pay a visit to the store just for fun. On July 7th I entered the store at 3:45pm. The open sign was visible and there were a few people inside buying things at the checkout. As I attempted to enter the store the owner, an old polish lady rudely said that the store was closed and that we could not enter, yet the open sign was visible and there were customers inside. I asked why she was closed since it was only 3:45pm and there were people inside but she refused to explain and rudely repeated that the store was closed and that we couldn’t go in. She said in a nasty tone that she would assist us if we needed anything but that we couldn’t go in. How is one supposed to shop in a department store if we can’t even go inside? I felt extremely disrespected and called the woman out on her rudeness and irrational behavior and she just proceeded to walk away into a store isle. Won’t be going back ever again and I suggest no one else should either.

Department Store. I’ve passed this establishment a zillion times and finally went in. This is what a department store used to be back in the day before all the big-box chain outfits came along. A little something for everyone jammed into every corner of the place. Much of it geared toward the home, a lot of nautical /summer type items and just a fun place to browse. Sadly, it is apparently for sale(Big for sale sign in front) so it may not be around for much longer. Parking on street and in lots around town.
