Gretna Fair Grounds OTB & Casino

So I had a hunch, and I wanted to place a bet for the Kentucky Derby. Had my eye on this horse for weeks, and not a true betting woman, I really didn’t want to make a mistake. I really didn’t want to lose more than I could afford to. I went to the West bank, as I knew Jazzfest would interfere with any betting plans I wished to make here locally. Really glad I did.
This is a smoky den of I don’t know what you would call it. People waiting for their luck to change? People who are taking an active interest in winning money? Planning for retirement sans 401K? Passing a good time? It was ugly and amazing at the same time. I was out of place, but never felt unwelcomed. I was in and out quickly, but wanted to take it all in.
I found the betting window, placed my bets. The lady was most helpful in making sure I was getting what I wanted. This was the first time I bet at a betting parlor. First time other than «wanna make a bet?» I was attracted and repelled at the same time.
This may or may not become an occasional hobby for me. All day I was saying «I won» instead of «I am going to win», which was very Deepak Chopra of me and very unlike my typical pessimistic or «realist» views. That strategy worked.
