The Irish Mile

Four stars for the quality of craft beer selection. They also are very savvy in their pricing — keeping it modest.
Make no mistake — this is a BAR for drinking microbeers. Here everything else pales. Food and conversation ;not so much.
On weekends it gets
Super crowded and loud as hell. That usually doesn’t bother me too much, as this bar does have a certain hipster vitality. There is also a sense of honest unpretentiousness (It is what it is — and doesn’t pretend to be otherwise)
This is a bar to go drink beer with your friends. I wouldn’t advise taking a date where intimate conversations are a priority.

Wow. If you like to go out for drinks and get ignored, this is your spot! Bartenders move in super-​slo-​mo. Do yourself a favor, stay an Irish Mile away from this place and give G-​bar, Keg & Kitchen, PJ’s, or The Pour House a shot.

Love this place! Fun environment. Wide selection of beer choices and great specials. Plus $ 1 pizza slices all day, everyday! I mean, that’s a win any time.

They always have a great selection of seasonal beers & some of the best pizza to ever come out of an Irish bar.

I only go during week or weekend afternoons.
Easy to drive by the place and never notice it but they have like 80 craft taps and feature at least 15 – 20 local NJ drafts at a time.
Expect to find great beer from Carton, Kane, and Cape May brewery.
Its inexpensive and the Stromboli is massive.
Despite it being a bar there is a somewhat removed seating area that you can bring a family to eat.
Only complaint is bartenders are real hit or miss.

I’ve been to the Irish Mile over a dozen times over the last 5 years with friends living in Collingswood, Westmont, and Haddonfield. I’ve found it can be a hit or miss experience. It’s a mix of a dive bar and a sports bar, but it’s not a good fit for either.
It’s always crowded on the weekends and is not uncommon to wait 20 minutes to get the attention of the bartender. The best thing you can do is get a table with some friends with a waiter or waitress; it’ll still be slow service, but the wait times are reduced.
I’ve also ran into some of the rudest people here, which you can’t blame the Irish Mile for. Don’t drink too much or you’ll have to squeeze yourself in the single urinal and single toilet bathroom, which usually has 5 or more guys crammed into the tiny room.
Prices are about average, but closer to the cheap side. I’ve found getting two beers at a time and not opening a tab to be the secret here. Once I spent 15 mins trying to close my tab at the bar.
I’m giving the Irish Mile 3 stars rather than 2 stars because I assume all the problems above don’t exist on weeknights.

The Irish Mile is one of the most inconsistent places that I’ve ever been to. Their tap selection is one of their qualities that stays the same, and it’s vast with current and desired beers. However, both the service and crowd can wear on your nerves. I’m still trying to find the best time to be here since it’s either mobbed with no where to even stand or the place is almost barren. I can say that when it is empty you’ll receive great service from knowledgeable staff, this is a factor that has been much improved from the past. When it’s crowded don’t expect to have a place to sit down.

UPDATE: The Irish Mile has gotten a lot better with their beer selection. I love that I can regularly find Corsendonk beers here and they have a couple of options for most styles of beer. They have more information listed on their draft list explaining each of the beers offered. The bartenders seem to be better trained and bar service has improved.
The crowd bothers me. I don’t understand why this place ends up getting packed with bros and college kids who can’t handle their Miller Lite. I don’t understand why anyone would come here for Miller Lite, especially with PJ Whelihan’s half a block away. Last time I was at Irish Mile there was puke on the floor and filling cups at the tables near the bar. It bothered me that a half hour later it wasn’t cleaned. We left.
I don’t know, I don’t really want to give it another star because of my last experience, but I do think it has been earned with improvements on draft and with the staff. I am still less than enthusiastic when one of my friends mentions going there.
Frankly, Irish Mile, you disappoint me. You have such potential, and you are not living up to it. You could be the bar that South Jersey needs, but perhaps are all that South Jersey deserves right now.

Better craft beer list than PJ’S or Pour house BY FAR and more relaxed atmosphere. Almoat has the feel of a downtown Philly bar. Burt is here on Saturdays when we usually go and he is genuinely nice and also knowledge about the beers on tap. Food is simple but tasty and you can always order a pizza to go. If you are looking for a change from the boring bar scene in Haddon, bring your friends here.

Went to Irish Mile tonight as my dad has been frequenting the establishment since he moved here. The three male bartenders know him by name and all three were very pleasant. Tonight we had the Mexican menu. We started with the fresh guacamole. A little on the spicy side but I like it that way. It was very good and had small chunks of avocado. Seemed like fresh homemade chips too. I then had three soft tacos-​two chicken and one beef. I wish all three had been beef as that one was quite tasty. The chicken was kinda bland, even with lime. My fiancé had tostados which he said were just okay.
P. S. My dad has quesadilla last week and was dismayed that it came with lettuce and tomato piled on top. Not sure if that was a mistake on their part but menu does not stay this.

The IM continues to up their game. Craft beer selection is perhaps the best in the area (NJ only that is) and they now have a knowledgable bar staff. Particularly like their NJ brewery selection (Kane, Carton, Cape May etc). The food quality has improved greatly, too. Breakfast burger is a winner. The Pour House, still good, has raised their prices (quite a bit) and isn’t the go-​to place anymore. Congrats to the Irish Mile for working to make the place a winner.

I rate this bar/​restaurant a 2 for several reasons which I will list. 1. Great beer list but most of the good beers are served in 12oz or lower. For example, PJs serves Kane Head High and Overhead IPAs in a 16oz. Mile serves these beers in a 12oz glass. Really? Get to know your competition. 2. The bartenders are sub par. It takes them awhile to acknowledge you when you walk up to the bar. I’m not asking to be served immediately but I would like to be acknowledged that they will be with me in a minute or so. 3. The food is bad. The pizza tastes like it was bought from the frozen food section at Wegmans. Their chicken sandwiches and cheese steaks are not Philly proper. 4. The atmosphere… well…it feels like you are drinking in your Uncle Joe’s basement behind those glass basement blocks
This is what I would improve. Hire better staff. Improve good and serve a draft beer in a pint.

Good beer selections. The space is a little small but it’s a bar. The service was good. Their biggest TV doesn’t have cable so you have to kind of squint to see the other TVs to watch games. It’s pretty loud. I couldn’t hear anyone when I was in there. The food was eh. French fries were ok. Caesar salad was crappy.

Love it here. Great craft beer list and their food is really good. We had the wings first, we prefer breaded wings but they were still good. I got the stone harbor grilled chicken sandwich with fries… DELISH. It had spinach and roasted red peppers, so good. The boyfriend got the breakfast burger and fries, he was impressed. We’ve been there a few times during the week for dinner and drinks and on the weekends for drinks, never a bad visit. Their $ 1.50 slices are delicious after a few beers on a Friday night!

I always have a great time with friends at Irish Mile!
They have a wonderful selection of craft beers! Bartenders are always super friendly and efficient. Pizza is delicious and comes out quickly.
It can become crowded quite quickly on weekends, but drinks come out fast regardless. Irish Mile should consider expanding because it seems to be growing more and more popular.
Would recommend for a night out!

AWESOME beer list (and cheaper than the pour house!). Food is always good. Fries are delicious. The Stone Harbor is my favorite, I get it almost every time I’m there. The waitresses are always very nice and accommodating. Also love the $ 1 ($ 1.50 now) slices! Its «divey» but definitely has a lot of charm. If you want quality beer, service and food, check it out.

I’m a local and I don’t want the b/​s of crowds and egos. Sure, the other locals can fill it up at prime times but that is unavoidable. Great beer list and a few options on cider, food is hit or miss, has a small parking lot, the games are on and the age range is mixed. The bartenders are quick and have easy-​going personalities. Irish Mile is also a great pre-​game for a night of barhopping. No dance floor or dj, which is why it’s a pre-​gamer in my world.

Along Haddon Avenue in Westmont, you’ll find a brightly painted bar, a keg-​topped restaurant, a divey corner bar, and a pizza place with a slightly obnoxious sign. Then there’s the Irish Mile — a nondescript smallish bar that isn’t very Irish, but is a worthy spot to visit every now and again.
I’ve only been inside twice despite living down the road for two years — and one of those times was last weekend… months after moving away! My first visit was on St. Patty’s Day in… 2012? All I recalled as I walked what *felt* like a mile from the Pour House to the Irish Mile in the brisk weather on Saturday night was that the bar was long and rectangular. And it is, which is quite nice considering the popularity factor here.
Things to note:
1. Early 20’s dominated the crowd. Not sure what it’s like during the day.
2. It was HOT in there. I found myself hovering by the back door so when people would come in from blackening their lungs, I’d get a whiff of stinky, cool air.
3. Bathroom set-​up is weird. I accidentally peered into the men’s room and made awkward eye contact with a rando-​dude while standing near the bar. And in other news, when I needed to use the toilet myself, it was alllll the way over in the little restaurant portion up front. Inconvenient and weird, weird, weird.
4. Huge chalkboard details beer selection. Lots of taps. Decent choices. You’d think I’d choose something fancy, but overload led to indecision, and I ended up going local with a Flying Fish.
5. Not enough people working the bar. Can take awhile to be noticed. But the bartenders (and potentially owners??) working were incredibly nice.

I want to give absolute props to this place for taking their bar to that next level. Not content with being «just» the best bar in the area, they’ve really stepped up with the draft list of beers, upgrading the french fries, and now adding desserts! Bartenders are efficient and personable. If you go when the weather is good, there’s a back porch that’s relaxing. Lunch prices are basically unbeatable.
