Boo Boo Zoo

Never been ther and might go in May on my trip. Have read from a reliable book of all the great job and services they provide for injured animals. Also are functioning on donations only.

While in Paia walking around, I found a hurt baby bird and was worried it may not survive. I think it was prematurely hatched. Anyway, I looked this place up and headed there with the little juju. This place was a bit hard to find but once I got there I was amazed. There were goats, sheep, dogs, cats, chickens, and tons of other creatures all around my car and on the property. They dont have people there very often so I had to call to get the guy to come out. Some older man named Silvan. Anyway, good for him! I would love to own a property like this one and turn it into a refuge! SO COOL!!!

We went to the Boo Boo Zoo where we met the owner Sylvan. What an amazing guy. He’s dedicated 30 years of his life to animals in need. If you have kids or even if you just love animals this is a worthwhile stop while on Maui. You’ll meet horses, birds, goats, cats and a dog among possible other animals in need. I fell in love with the cats. They were all wonderful ambassadors for their species. One blind cat especially caught my heart. He sat on my shoulders as we toured the special needs room. If nothing else, this place deserves recognition for helping animals that others won’t. They are a donation driven organization so your visit makes a difference to being able to house and feed those animals. Visit. You’ll have fun and leave feeling good.

I started volunteering at the Boo Boo Zoo while on vacation approximately 12 years ago, and I still volunteer once a week whenever we are here. It is a very special place and Sylvan, Suzie, and the rest of employees and volunteers are so committed to doing everything they can to care for all of the animals that are surrendered in to their care. Each year I see the physical and financial struggle it takes to keep the BooBoo Zoo solvent.
Whenever you are on island and you have a compassion to help these special creatures, and thereby helping the staff and the community at large I encourage you to do so. You will be richly rewarded and pay it forward.

I thought this place had more reviews and, like the only other review here, I am shocked to see a place with such admirable and noble intentions get so little love from the Unilocal community.
This is unlike any zoo you’ve been to before. Actually, it’s probably unlike anything you’ve seen before – especially in a place like Maui. At Boo Boo Zoo, you’ll see a variety of animals ranging from goats to deers to one very large cow, all intermingling and coexisting with each other. The fact that a deer didn’t stop, freeze and run away from me as if the faceless murderer of Bambi’s mother revealed himself is a miracle to see alone. Seeing such a community of animals, all diverse and unique in their upbringing and upkeep, is something that is notable enough to elicit a review from a person that has only one other piece of Unilocal criticism (which involves a bad sandwich experience in Subway).
In summary, if you want a piece of Maui that isn’t touted in your expected soulless, pre-​digested and capitalistically-​driven tourism, stop by Boo Boo Zoo and say hello to Sylvan.

Not sure how this heaven-​sent sanctuary had NO reviews?!? The people who own this place are angels! The couple who owns The Booboo Zoo operates purely off of donations and they live at the sanctuary. The animals range from ducks and birds to deer and goats. You can literally bring any animal here and with out a question they will take it in.
The story behind this place is truly inspiring as well. One of the owners was diagnosed with a terminal cancer over 8 – 9 years ago. She and her husband opened The Booboo Zoo and the connection with all the animals actually put her cancer into remission. Touching!
I know its not the most «touristy» thing to do while on Maui, but seriously check it out. The drive to the sanctuary is beautiful and you will get to see a bunch of different types of animals. Leave a donation and you will leave feeling all warm and fuzzy! I promise :)
