The Square Peg Foundation

Square Pegs Foundation is an amazing place. Joell and the folks at Square Pegs do wonderful work, both with the clients the serve and training the ex-​racehorses that assist with this hugely beneficial program.

The Square Peg Foundation is a non-​profit horse rescue and adaptive riding center. The word to describe this place is «wow». You’ll say it when you first enter the property, which is so green and lush that you feel like you’re in a giant salad bowl. You’ll say «wow» when you meet the horses; some of whom have faced tremendous adversity and abuse, and yet are sweet and gentle. You’ll say «wow» when you hear the success stories of children who have faced the challenges that accompany being a square peg in a round hole. The effectiveness of the custom adaptive riding methods used summons a «wow» as well. You’ll say «wow» when you meet the team of delightful and devoted volunteers.
For children who hear «no» every day of their lives, and who are constantly struggling with incredible adversity and challenges, this is a sanctuary where they are told «yes» as much as possible.
For me, personally, it’s my happy place. It’s hard to put my immense appreciation for a place like this into words. Places like this are hard to come by, and if you have the means to, I strongly encourage you to volunteer or donate. This place is a little slice of heaven.
