This place specializes in African American church music. It’s the real deal. I don’t know anything about gospel, except for a handful of the major artists of the past, ie James Cleveland, Mahalia Jackson, etc. The ladies at Simpson’s Records played for me a bunch of newer artists and helped me find performers with Detroit connections. I left with a CD from the Goodwill Musical Ensemble. The store is combined with a candy counter. It is the definition of non-corporate and local. Go! For vinylphiles: very limited selection of LPs, it’s mostly CDs. But so what, the place is great and so are its people.
