Looks like the city of Hawthorne is getting hip with it rolling out its first annual Taste of Hawthorne event. The city’s claim to fame is that it is the home of the Beach Boys. Though it is a pretty big claim of fame, Hawthorne can’t keep up with the reps of the more, let’s say, privileged cities that surround it. This first annual Taste shows that Hawthorne won’t be left in the dust by its beach cities brethren. Here are the deets: Cost: FREE … my favorite four letter word Location: Parking lot of the Hawthorne Airport Parking: $ 15 in the small lot across the street from the airport. It’s was the first year so a lot of people got away with parking at the Lowe’s parking lot. Food: It is a food truck foodie delight. Some trucks that made a presence were: White Rabbit, B&R Burgers, MeSo Hungry, and Vchos Truck to name a few. Some Hawthorne restaurants, like Piggie’s, had booths. Beer Garden: There was a beer garden! And it didn’t cost an arm and a leg. Three beers for $ 10. I don’t know how much a single ticket was. The beer servings weren’t a full pint, they were probably half a pint. The beers weren’t local to Hawthorne, but who’s paying attention to details. Peddlers: They had a bike valet at the entrance of the event. Pretty dope. Music: It was a community affair. Local schools showcased their talent and Ozomatli closed the show. That was pretty awesome! I haven’t seen them since college and they still look and sound incredible aaand put on a really great performance! Money and Poop: There were ATMs available and plenty of porta-potties. I really hope that this becomes a solidified tradition in the city … and maybe they can switch the date from a Sunday to a Saturday so I can enjoy the craft beers in the beer garden a tad bit longer.
