A+ Autohouse

I’ve been bringing our classic Mercedes here for years. Awesome service, honest, thorough and reasonable. They do smog checks here (including STAR) and get you in and out in 30 minutes if you call ahead. They also service my TOYOTA FJ and always will!

Originally I thought Tony was good, a little bit expensive compared to some other places I looked up, but easy to communicate with (which I think is always important with your auto mechanic).
I had AAA bring my Subaru here after the clutch master cylinder had a severe leak and the clutch pedal wouldn’t operate. I mostly chose the location because the problem happened while I was at work in Hayward, but I live in San Francisco, and this place is walking distance from BART (very convenient — big upside).
Downside with A+ Automotive —
Tony replaced my clutch master and slave cylinder, but apparently did not do much other inspection. He also has a high diagnostic fee for everything, wanted to charge me $ 110 just to look at, not fix, my window which didn’t work. So that explains why he didn’t inspect much else: I guess Tony is more concerned about getting paid for everything he does or looks at, which is not true of all mechanics. Great mechanics will inspect and warn you of any other issues with your car. Tony must not have inspected because my car broke down a week later. The timing belt snapped and damaged the engine, which was not worth fixing the whole engine for my old car. Had Tony been great, he may have warned me about the timing belt or other potential fatal issues, and had me fix them before losing my car.
Instead, I had to donate my car to the junkyard after just spending $ 500 at A+ Automotive on replacing the clutch master and slave cylinder. A wasted $ 500 for me, and he potentially could have saved my car with other warnings and repairs.

I live in Walnut Creek and I take my car to A+Autohouse, Tony is an excellent mechanic, and he deserve 5 stars.!!

I was in a car accident and A+ was recommended. I feel I was really lucky to be directed there. Tony is absolutely fabulous. He even drove me to the rental agency to pick up a car. He kept me informed on progress with my vehicle and returned it on the exact day he said he would. The car was restored to expectations. He even rubbed out a few scratches that were not part of the accident. I would highly recommend this place. Thanks Tony!

I’m new to CA and needed an auto mechanic to repair my brakes and install new tires on my 2009 Honda Odyssey. After reading the reviews on Unilocal I decided to try A+ Autohouse in Hayward. I’m glad I did.
Tony deserves five stars for his customer service. He was communicative and provided me with an accurate estimate and offered suggestions on future maintenance. He did so WITHOUT UP-​SELLING that you sometimes get from auto repair shops. He also deserves five stars for the way he skillfully repaired the vehicle. I have complete confidence in his knowledge, skills and abilities. He has all the diagnostic equipment but also has a damn good cranial database regarding automobiles. He also gets five stars for his timeliness. He repaired the brakes, balanced and installed two tires, installed a license plate frame to the vehicle (thank you CA DMV?!) and had it back to me about five hours after I dropped it off.
Excellent service, reasonable price and genuinely kind people. Its a pleasure to recommend my new car guy — Tony at A+ Autohouse.

Last weekend, the engine of my 1996 Subaru blew up and put a huge hole in the engine block. The closest AAA rated repair shop to get a tow to was A+ Autohouse.
It was an early Saturday morning the Tony was there just opening shop. Honestly, I couldn’t have been towed to a nicer establishment with friendlier service!!!
Tony took the time to not only go over my options but explain in great detail what happened and how it may have been prevented.
He quickly gave me honest estimates of what a new engine would cost and broke down all of the charges clearly.
Tony defines the true under-​promise and over-​deliver attitude and service this industry lacks. I look forward to having ALL of my vehicle serviced there and would HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone needing minor to major work done on your vehicle.

Tony looked at my 18 year Jeep which had failed the Smog test at another station for visible smoke which had mysteriously appeared and then disappeared (all emission readings had passed). He was very knowledgable and articulate in the diagnosis and the repair of a minor part which could have caused the mysterious smoke that day. He could have taken me for a ride to replace other parts in the engine that are «common» causes of smoke, but he didn’t.

A+ really does get an A+ grade (I am a teacher!) My trusted smog technician recommended A+ AutoHouse when I asked for a good place to do some air conditioning repair work. I checked the previous reviews on Unilocal and they were both very positive, so I brought my car in.
Tony — the owner and lead mechanic — really does live up to the good reputation and word of mouth that I had been led to believe. He truly is patient, open & honest about what work he thinks does & doesn’t need to be done. He gave me the options — very clearly explained — and let me decide. He also give me upfront and clear estimates on the cost involved. I waited in their waiting room which, though was not fancy, it had a TV, was clean, spacious and comfortable (and had free wireless access.)
I will refer my friends to him.

Tony is amazing. He has helped me many times when i had a long list of things that went wrong with my first car. He always fixed it in a timely manor and always does excellent work. I will continue to go to him with any issue i have.

Tony is the owner and a real honest guy. My whole family takes their cars to him.
I knew he was a honest guy when I took my truck to him and he called me to tell me that he had found a recall on the part I needed. I had no idea. He could have charged me $ 1200.00 dollars for the job, but he decided to tell me and told me to call the GMC dealer. I had the job done for free.
I know it’s very hard to find a honest mechanic but Tony is one of the rare ones.

The owner Tony there is very honest, he actually will tell you which is priority for your car repair and what can hold for later if necessary to save some money. Many other auto shops will tell you to repair every little thing. In return this place will get my repeat business for many years to come.
