I never would’ve imagined trivia could be so fun and infuriating at the same time! Thanks so much Dana for putting this UYE together. I had a great time meeting new people, trying different beers from Shakespeare’s extensive beer list, and answering questions to the best of my ability to help my team out. The order of importance of that last sentence is correct. 10⁄10 would definitely want to do this again!

This was an awesome event! Alcohol and random trivia questions always make for a good time. Our Unilocal table was divided into two since there were so many of us. Our team name had to do with Justin Beiber so we named our team D.U.I. Do that? #yolo and the other side of the table was VH1 Celebrity Rehab. They asked the most random questions. No categories, just random stuff! Props to everyone who knew the answers, but I was clueless for a lot of the questions. Both of our Unilocal teams ended up losing. My team lost by 2 points to the other half of the table. It’s ok, it’s all just friendly competition. I had an awesome time actually talking to everyone! Thanks Dana for setting this up! Looking forward to the next trivia UYE. P. S. Food was just ok, I’ll make sure to eat next time. But happy hour was pretty awesome!

Yeah idk how the brain can handle this amount of trivia for two hours. I have a headache. And I know it’s not a headache from the amazing apple ale I was sipping on. H E A D A C H E Dude those trivia questions are bonkers! Very random, very«how the heck should anybody know that?!!» Very this-makes-me-feel-very-Es-stu-ep-ped. Now I could have made my minute brain zone and slip away into a food oblivion but that didn’t happen as I didn’t make it in time for happy hour. However from the looks of the happy hour menu it looks pretty darn cheap. I love cheap eats. Anyway, this is a good social hour(s) with fellow Unilocalers or non-Yelpers alike! My Aussie cousin had a great time and it was cool for him to get a new American experience. Hopefully we did Our Country proud and proved our smarts. It helped that our Commander in Chief was giving his State of the Union Address. Ha!!!

This review pertains to the July 17, 2013 UYE-Shakespeare’s Grill & Pub event I have something to say«Regardless that Team Unilocal did not win the trivia, this UYE kicked butt.» The Trivia UYE at Shakespeare Pub and Grill hosted by Dana. S is a regular UYE where Unilocalers join their minds together to team up at a trivia contest. Instead of standing at a podium and monitor, it is all about good food and drinks. In a world that could be so impersonal, Unilocal events are a breath of fresh air. When I saw this event posted my mind had been made up to join my fellow Unilocal community for an evening of trivia. I arrived at Shakespeare’s Grill & Pub an hour before the event started at 6:30 P.M. It couldn’t have been held at a better place. Between 4 and 7 P.M., they have a full bar featuring an awesome Happy Hour. Nothing like a couple of draft Miller Lights after a day of work to relax the mind before Trivia. The event was so different than I pictured it. I had envisioned a center platform in the pub where a representative of each team would answer a question. Instead, each team sat, dined and drank at their table. It was what you could call a trivia themed dining experience. The server presented the team with a card where you would fill out the answer to the question being asked. At the conclusion of the round, you’d turn in the card. Ditto for the next rounds. This is a dining experience that feels just as familiar to a sports book than a trivia show. For obvious reasons, smart phone use is prohibited during the contest. Of course they are not going to slap a $ 500 fine on a paying customer. However, as my waiter nicely told me when I was looking on Unilocal,«this could get you disqualified.» Just like the«Pimpin Ain’t Easy» UYE, I was more into the good times than being the duke of a contest. After working all day followed by insufficient sleep and hours later a couple of Miller Lights, I was tired. It was an effort to spell Shakespeare much less answering something like«What weighs more, a golf ball or tennis ball?» When it comes to intellectual stuff, I could be kind of stubborn. I know what I want to know, like the Mojave landscape, The Beatles, and geography. I could care less about basketball jerseys. I did put in an «A» for effort. In a world that could be so impersonal, I intend to take breathers at UYEs and community events. I plan to join Team Unilocal at the next Trivia UYE. The Daniel. S 2013 Unilocal 100 Challenge. Review 100.

Tip: if you RSVP for a UYE and the only other person you know mentions he or she will be late, it would be helpful to have an idea of what at least one other person looks like. That way you don’t need to trouble the wait staff into approaching every table of trivia maniacs and ask, «Are you the Unilocalers? Are you with Unilocal? Are you guys here for a Unilocal event?» I’m not saying that happened to me necessarily, but I am saying that this would be HELPFUL. Mad props to Dana S. for putting together what appears to now be a monthly tradition of pub quizzing for Unilocalers! We were a tiny team of five this time around — Dana S., Kevin L., Tracy P., Julie-sorry-I-didn’t-catch-her-last-initial, and me — that figured we were in it just for the drinks and good times since apparently Team Unilocal’s results have not been as spectacular in the past as our more fanatical competitors. As Tracy P. put it, trivia sure knows how to make you feel stupid. We were stumped on a few of the rounds, but a combination of sheer genius and pure luck had us rallying into third place, when we elected Dana S. to be our tiebreaker, and homegirl DELIVERED, putting us on the medal stand for a $ 25 bar tab for next time. Looking forward to Team Unilocal domination again soon! :)

Thanks Dana for setting the coolest trvia night for Unilocalers! Guess should say thanks for keeping it going also because I was thinking making the last swan song. One that swan song or not nothing better then hanging out with bunch of cool Unilocalers in Vegas. It was the first trivia night for me. Oh boy talk about not helping the team(sorry forget our team name already) success although the basketball one had some solid contributions. Talk about turn out never knew Vegas Unilocalers had hat many trivia buffs. We had too split the teams into two teams of think about eight. If there was no overall award we won for Unilocal table side pride! Lol! It was great seeing new familiar faces and new ones. Who ever gets in charge of writing the answer should get shots because hearing that many answers flying is nuts. So shout out too not sure meet her for first time but did awesome job! Big shout out too Dana for grabbing all fellow Unilocalers huge table because once trivia started the place literally was packed no where too sit. Talk about competitive environment. Thankfully Unilocalers can be competitive but still have sense of humor and enjoy the company! If you never been too one everyone should show up once. Lisa R. nice having you on the winning Unilocal side! lol!

Thanks Dana for setting up another famous trivia night UYE! I am glad I finally got to attend, and my friend Heather K. made it for a few rounds. I was on a team that has a cuss word in its name and I am such a goody two shoes I cannot even type it :) We definitely had highs and lows but in the end it was monumentally fun, challenging, and the beer was cheap. I actually was happy that cherry wheat was out so I got to try Sunset Wheat and it was yummy. Fish and chips were pretty good too, despite everyone else getting their food before me — not our server’s fault — she said another server took ‘em! She was really cool and took care of our huge group with gusto. Though none of us won the contest, we all won in coolness, good times with friends, and creative thinking. I would stick with my team again!!! Kevin L. is really good for sports questions hint hint. Happy hour 4 – 7.

A big thanks to Dana for hosting the trivia night that I attended. I would give this place 6 stars if the Unilocal team had won. Just sayin’. Get here a little early, a bit before 7 to get in on the happy hour specials. Apparently you can’t use your phone at all at the table, so make sure you excuse yourself. Also, don’t yell out answers, your teammates will shoot over dirty looks and awkwardly start yelling out incorrect answers to cover up your mistake. LOL. It’s a great time with a group– good icebreaker, had a really fun time. :)

Thank you to Dana for hosting trivia nights at Shakespeare. It’s not that much of a mess compared to the others in town and Shakespeare has this down and organized. Dana had it so our checks were able to be split in the end, had I known that sooner I would have ordered way more food/drinks. I just hate to be the one who orders the most and racks up everyone’s auto-gratuity on the bill, which by the way there was none. Unfortunately I did not order or eat any of their food, except for Elizabeth’s curry fries which was yummy, since I just came from Settebello but I did try to come early to pregame a little bit on their drinks. I was happy with their drink selections and pretty much just chilled, drank, and enjoyed company at the other end of the table with River, Kayla, Elizabeth, Kevin, Greg, Christina, Arvin, and Niyen after getting bumped out of my original seat. At my end I realized we had try-hards in our group, it was funny to watch because you either know the answer or you don’t, and if you don’t you come up with possible answers and discuss it(the answer Battery for example, I think we got that wrong). Greg knew a lot of the answers, he should sit closer to the answer sheet if we’re ever playing serious. Also, don’t yell out answers bahh. At least give out visual clues, for example pointing at Vanessa’s red color on her shirt and making wings indicating Detroit Red Wings, I think we wrote down Pittsburgh Penguins instead. Or when Mr. Smee was brought up I did the Hook with my finger to suggest Peter Pan was the answer. My end of the table probably gave away more answers than scored points for our team haha. Sure the questions were a little difficult and way out of our groups average age range but the questions are random and team Unilocal will win one day, it’s not rigged at all. mmhmmmehhhh. What I would like to see here that I see at my favorite trivia bar spot is the host on the mic be a little bit funnier and bonus points awarded for funny/sarcastic answers, that could easily be the tie-breaker because in the end the first and second place teams tied in points, third and fourth teams tied in points. Or give us half points for answering sarcastically that way we have a shot to creep into the top three spot. But drinks, friends, and a little bar game always calls for a good time. Everyone should come out at least once to a trivia night, good luck because you’ll need it!

I’ll try anything once, this is something I’ll definitely try twice! It was another night of firsts for me: My 1stUYE, 1st time to Shakespeare’s Grill & Pub, and 1st time playing this style of trivia. Man was it fun! With 6 or so rounds of trivia, I think I knew a total of 5 or so answers but any game that includes 2 Buck Chuck gets 5 stars from me. It was nice that this version of trivia is answered as a team so we could pool our wits! The group was fantastic, a lot of new faces(I was one of them) and everyone so warm and welcoming! The staff at Shakespeare’s was attentive, and a special thanks to Dana who had arranged for everyone to have separate checks — made paying for my meal a breeze! We enjoyed $ 3 beer specials, fish and chips, Sheppard’s pie & turkey chili. Hmmm… What else do you need to know? A lot about birds apparently… and we didn’t. Which is likely why we lost. And one word that can describe a crime, a baseball term, and a chess term.(HINT: it’s not stealing or suicide — and the debate is still out as to whether or not suicide is really a crime.) If you haven’t been to one of the trivia nights you are missing out.

Hat tip to Dana S. and Molly-tern for putting together a great pub trivia event. Unilocalers brought the fierce competition to Shakespeare’s Pub for trivia night and team Molly-tern(a.k.a. «Zombie Strippers in the Sun», a.k.a. the Greatest 2nd Place Trivia Team in the history of pub trivia) led the way(well, followed very closely behind the non-Yelp-based winners). And it got pretty intense. At one point, I swear Molly-tern punched someone who challenged our team’s answer as incorrect. Then Dana S. threw a glass at Molly-tern when team Zombie Strippers in the Sun proved its Justin Timberlake trivia superiority. Things went over-the-top crazy when Cayenne E. and Jessie B. threw down over a question about Michael Jackson’s «Thriller». I’ve never seen a MMA fight breakout over trivia before, but let’s just say no one should mess with those women. It was a great event all around: — excellent location — nice pub menu and beer selection at Shakespeare’s — good people — my team, «Zombie Strippers in the Sun,» is the best — good competition — it went down to the wire I loved this event and we should field a regular Unilocal trivia team.

So much fun. The best part was that team Zombie Strippers Under the Sun spanked the Glittery Vaginas. I try not to participate in these kinds of activities regularly because I am a competitive person by nature. I am usually able to suppress my inner need to knock people over and step on their throats. As always, when the heat is on, I get worked up and don’t know how to scale back. Team Zombies did not do so bad. We only trailed Chlamydia by three points. We only lost by 8 points in total. But, what we found out is that each one of us is: a brain… And an athlete… And a basket case… A princess… And a criminal.

I am going to be super pretentious and give my own event five stars. If I won’t toot my own horn, then who will?! Thanks to the friendly and accommodating staff of Shakespeare’s, setting this event up was a breeze. I arranged in advance for everyone to be able to have their own separate tab so it was not a confusing mess when it’s late and everyone is tired. Our server agreed to accommodate that request without protest. The place was PACKED, but our table was waited on consistently and drinks and food kept on coming out. The trivia was a lot of fun. I got to meet some new awesome Unilocalers and reconnect with existing friends. I got to meet Lindsey O., Dain M., Vegas J, Rob O., and lovely Pam and her husband Ron. We had a great turn out and I was very pleased to see everyone in good spirits and having fun. Team Glittery Vaginas rocks!(not really, at all).

Grrr I really wanted that bar tab! Sadly, our trivia bubble burst when we didn’t even place. I think I need a history lesson or two before the next round of trivia — yikes. Oh well, good job Zombie Strippers & Glittery Vaginas! I say we won for best team names. Cold beer + good company + trivia = Successful UYE!

THISWAS A PRACTICEEVENT, I DECIDED. I just had way to much fun to NOT do this again, so I really hope Molly & Dana decide to host another Trivia UYE at Shakespeare’s Pub. I walked in saying I was not going to participate in the games, I was just staying long enough to have one drink and then I was leaving… 3 hours later, I was just finishing up my duties as Team Secretary for the Glittery Vaginas and starting to head home. What can I say? My favorite Unilocal ladies were in attendance, and I met some really cool new Unilocalers as well. And despite getting our butts handed to us by the über serious trivia regulars, I was still stoked on the game because I managed to answer one question for our team that no one else on my team knew… Go me, glittery vagina power!!! Shakespeare’s was an excellent venue, the staff members I dealt with we’re all on point. I missed happy hour, but the drinks were still very reasonable. I had already eaten, but the food my teammates had looked and smelled like it would be worth a trip back to Shakespeare’s for dinner. So Dana, lets recruit some power players to team GV and win that bar tab ASAP please! A+++ UYE!

Team Glittery Vaginas didn’t win but we sure had a good time trying. Apparently Zombie Strippers have more time to study trivia then a team busy bedazzling our private parts.

Can you write a review of an event you had a hand in planning? I say yeah. I’m the kind of person who will snap necks over trivia. The Zombie Strippers(Team Moll-Tern) beat out The Glittery Vaginas(Team Fake-Up), but it was a Pyrrhic victory at best because we didn’t come close to winning the actual trophy. Also I’m okay with losing to a team of people aged 50+ who are willing to call themselves Chlamydia is Back. Thoughts on today’s trivia game: –Wow, I know so little about sports. –Where have curry fries been all my life? –Maybe I should have paid more attention in my high school chemistry class that I dropped out of. –Maybe I should have paid more attention in my college chemistry class that I dropped out of. –Oh wait, we’re not just competing against the other Unilocal team. There’s 10 other teams here. WTF I MUSTWWWIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNN Thanks, Miss Dana, for working it all out. You my girl.
