This place is a High Point staple. It’s been in the same location as long as I can remember and has been family owned and operated the whole time. I have been here so many times over the years that I have watched the kids grow up while working in the family business. I noticed another reviewer only giving this one star and while I can appreciate expedience in order-taking, getting past that hurdle will yield some really good Americanized Chinese food. I would suggest giving them another try and using a different tact that has served me well over the years. I always phone ahead my order so, it is ready when I get there. I have cash in hand because last time i checked, they still don’t take debit cards. The second reason for phoning in is because the dining area leaves little to be desired. Typically, it is pretty hot inside and well, they are not re-investng any profits in the décor. This is the only restaurant that I actively keep in my contact list on my cell phone. That aside, the dishes served are really good. I usually get my go to order which is a modified version of Beef with Broccoli. I order it with curry sauce. It’s kind of funny because they know who I am by this order. The combo comes with pork fried rice and an egg roll. There is always more than enough food to make me happy and it typically ends up being two meals for me. Getting past ordering and the less than glamorous surroundings will yield a really good meal for those who like carry-out styled Chinese food. I’ve never had a bad meal there. It’s a must while passing through. Get your meal to go and head across the street to the park area or the Oak Hollow lake.

They may very well have some good food here, but I don’t know, and probably never will. I tried to eat here today, take out. But while I was tryiing to place my order, the lady at the counter stop taking my orderTHREE TIMES — twice to take a call in order(while I waited), and once to take payment from a customer(while I waited some more) On the third one, I left. Don’t think I’ll try that again.

Ordered the Hunan Chicken and Sweet & Sour Pork, and Pork Fried Rice. Excellent way to spend $ 30. Food was delicious, prompt service. Cash only.

Food was horrible. Will never eat here again. I got chicken and broccoli with garlic sauce and it was the worst I’ve ever had. Girlfriend got shrimp and broccoli with garlic sauce and they only put 4 shrimp in it.

IMPRESSIVE Hunan Chicken! ! ! 6 Unilocal stars for Chinese! NUMBER1 is right! Not that no. 1 — I mean this place is Number ONE in my Book for Chinese and they even beat some other Asian cuisine restaurants of other nationalities, though not Ben Thanh! Mmmmmm! !! !!! Yay! Yeah! This is the Best Hunan Chicken and possibly the Best Chinese dish I have eaten in a long time, maybe since the last time I ate here about 16 years ago! Perfectly Spicy Black Bean Sauce(the Most Unique Black Bean Sauce too)! Maybe this is not«Black Bean Sauce», maybe it is just the best Hunan Sauce and it has Black Beans in it??? Bok Choy and a mixture of Vegetables stir fried with Chicken — YUM! Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! They make Fantastic Pork Fried Rice with chunks of white Onion, Pork and Green Onion, prepared with Loving Skill — This is the Rice they have been serving with lunch entrees since the beginning! This Flavorful Rice Dish could easily stand on it’s own, and it is included with your Lunch! The Kung Pow Chicken was real good! I wish I could spell! Every item I have eaten here I have been impressed with the Flavor, Quality and VALUE! Cheap! The prices are GREAT and for the Quality and quantity these deals are steals! Bring C A $ H ! Located right the the middle of an Arm pit of a shopping center(College Village Shopping Center) «No. 1 Chinese Restaurant is a run-down Hole-in-the-wall with ease! This is a mostly Take out with a medium sized room with a few tables(all clean) and plenty of room to stand and order. People were sitting on the sidewalk eating too! When I say people were sitting on the sidewalk eating I do not mean in chairs, I mean butts on concrete ON the sidewalk! Once you get past the Location and Drab looks of the place… read all the signs, you can walk up to the counter and order! «Ca$h Only! ! ! No Credit Card! No Debit Card! No Check» «Do Not use Your Cell Phones Around the Counter Thank You» «No Refunds No Exchanges» At the Gumball Machines: «Candy Machines Not belong to This Business Use them at your own risk and Don’t complain to us»!(At this point I bet some of you may think this is an exaggeration — so I took photos that you can see for yourself)! A Huge Homemade Happy New Year sign(Chinese New Year) for«Year of the Dragon» 2000… That is right and you may know that the Chinese Character Calendar has a 12 year cycle so 2012 is also«Year of the Dragon» From the looks of the sign it appears that it could have easily been hanging there almost Twelve and a half years!

I now live in Seattle, but I’m from high point, and I remember this place when it opened, and it’s really great. Keep in mind, this is the standard americanized chinese food, it’s cheap, fresh and the chicken wings are AMAZING. They give you 4 full chicken wings, fried to perfection, huge, juicy TASTY wings, in my opinion, they best I’ve had anywhere that’s had chicken wings. So many people will be waiting for their order of… wait for it, like 5 orders of chicken wings. Like I said, living in Seattle, believe it or not I can’t find chinese food this good there, the portions are nice, the prices are right, and although they continue to raise the price is the chicken wings(they used to be 2 bux, now they’re almost 4, and nothing else has been raised so dramatically) I’mstill pretty much counting the hours til I can go there today, having just gotten into town for the holidays. My favs: Curry chicken, Beef & broccoli, CHICKENWINGS!!! my mother would cut someone for messing with her beef egg fu young… I used to order this amazing spicy lunch dish with shrimp and chicken… the ONE flaw I think is that their fried rice is too dark, and a bit too greasy, I like fluffy yellow rice and theirs is darker, but considering I don’t eat that much fried rice, I’m gonna let it go… And now, I continue to wait for the Wings…
