Scugnizzi

We stopped here mid-​road trip, and I wasn’t as impressed as many other Unilocalers seem to be. My party of three ordered appetizers and pizza. The food was fine, but I’ve certainly had/​made better. The service was fine, as well. They did have live music while we were there which certainly improved the experience! All in all, I wouldn’t strongly recommend it, but I wouldn’t discount it either.

The level of service especially from the waitresses does not allow me to go any higher, I wish this place the best, the food is not that bad.

I tried this place for the first time today on a whim. I have been very impressed with the all around service and the steak stromboli has to be one of my favorites around Greensboro high point area. Great job and hats off to the chef

Our first visit Scugnizzi restaurant was amazing. Such authentic Italian cuisine. We eat there as often as possible and every meal has been fabulous. The bread they serve is outstanding. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Try their lasagna or gnocchi. They’ve been in place for less than a year and I can’t believe they won’t continue grow and a astound

Great place for lunch, dinner or just picking up a bite on the go! Have not had a bad meal yet.

I live near by. My family has been Marios people for a long time. We have now switched. The place with the weird name has THE best food. Not sure what they put in the pizza dough but it’s like crack.

So glad a friend recommended this place. The margherita pizza was excellent, the hot, fresh bread was delicious, and the salad was great for a side salad. We will be visiting again soon!

I am originally from NY and grew up in the restaurant business. I have lived in the Midwest and New England until settling down in NC.
My 2 daughters go to High Point University and everytime I come to HP to see them or for business I come to Scugnizzi’s Pizza, Pasta and Grill for the closest to NY Italian food that I’ve had since 1975!
The owner Tony takes much pride in the authentic flavors of every meal served!
If you like real Italian desserts then you can’t pass their assortment up!
The staff is Awesome and I have requested Real (one of the managers) everytime I’ve been there because of her fantastic service and fun attitude with all of her customers!

Let me preface this review with saying that I will have to come back again to see if my experience was typical. So, my parents loved their first visit to Scugnizzi and told me that I would definitely need to check it out. On my way home from work the other night they suggested that we have dinner at Scugnizzi and I was excited to try something new! They arrived there first and ordered drinks and had some bread. When I showed up after driving 45 minutes, I was given a menu and very little time to decide what to order. I wanted to relax and sip on my drink and read over the menu a few times, but the waitress made me feel very rushed. I ordered quickly and tried to take in the ambiance. We were sat at the very back of the small restaurant, right by the cash register. There were many people waiting on to-​go orders and there was a lot of commotion right next to our table.
There was also live music… I typically enjoy music while I’m dining, but the gentleman singing should have probably chosen a different career. I don’t mean to sound unappreciative, but with the passing of customers, the busy foot traffic of the staff, and the off-​key singing taking over the whole restaurant, I wasn’t very hungry by the time the food arrived. I couldn’t tell you the name of what I ordered, but it wasn’t bad. It was chicken, shrimp, and vegetables over spaghetti and marinara sauce. Nothing terribly complicated. I ate a few bites and then asked for a to-​go box.
I have to say that I will need to try this again, perhaps earlier on a weekend. I did not enjoy my experience, but I was craving a relaxing dinner and got the opposite. I’m looking forward to trying it again and hopefully improving my review.

Excellent menu variety, reasonable pricing and fresh food! Clean atmosphere and friendly staff.

I had dinner here with friends for the first time last night. The first part of our meal went great. We were seated quickly, our server was friendly, and I liked the complimentary bread and olive oil she brought to our table. Drink refills were prompt, and while a tiny mistake or two was made involving who had what salad dressing and what brand of wine was ordered, these little miscues happen and are very forgivable.
My issue with this restaurant began when the entrees were served. I ordered an 8″ cheese steak on whole wheat. I took one bite and did not care for the taste, which was reminiscent of Steak-​umm. I took another smaller bite or two from different sections and was disappointed to find the same taste pervading the entire sandwich. I contented myself with consuming a few of the chips that came on the side and decided not to complain. I told myself I’d just order a different menu item next time and give this cheese steak to my dogs as a treat.
When the bill came, the amount was $ 1.50 more than what I expected. I assumed I had been charged for the 12″ cheese steak, which was a buck and a half more in price. I brought the apparent discrepancy to the attention of the server, and she told me the $ 1.50 up charge was for the whole wheat bread (wrap), which seemed crazy to me.
We looked at the menu, and the up charge verbiage still seemed linked more to the larger sandwich (it’s much clearer on the online menu which I checked while writing this review than it is on the in store menu). She did not agree, and the conversation turned to how I liked the food. I offered that I did not care for what I had and added I found the beef to be low grade with a Steak-​umm taste when she probed further.
She defended the restaurant’s culinary quality, and when I pointed out every single person in my party asked for boxes after leaving considerable quantities of uneaten food on their plates, she responded that their portion sizes are huge and people commonly ask for boxes.
I knew then there was no point in continuing the conversation. I paid my bill and left. I don’t plan on returning. Maybe the restaurant will invest the extra $ 1.50 into conflict resolution training for staff.

This unexpected hidden gem has become one of my go to lunch places. I have never had a bad meal from here. There is a new and pizza special every day to keep you guessing. Their desserts are authentic and amazing.

Man were we impressed form the little Italian place we found at a shopping center! The service was incredible, fresh baked bread was on point, pasta cooked perfectly, and the cannoli at the end was to die for.
The owner Tony was very personable, engaging, and knows his Italian food being from Napoli.
Go eat!

Has to the worst side of town for a restaurant, really bad after dark.
Car was keyed while we had dinner, nobody there to keep things like this from happening. Owner didn t seem to care either. Can t enjoy a night out here wondering if you ll get mugged or car screwed up.
Stay away far away

I was very surprised with Scugnizzi’s. As of late it seems that most new restaurants in High Point have had a curse on them, not this place. Very friendly wait staff along with good food. I got the (not so) small Stromboli is was extremely hearty and delicious. This place is a nice dinner spot and is very filling!

Overall, I think their pizza is the best I’ve tasted in the High Point area. Their cheese is delicious and is, in my opinion, the factor that puts this pizza on top. I’ve been told they use Wisconsin cheese, and being from Northern Illinois-​Southern Wisconsin area myself, I would say that this has to be correct. It is the tastiest cheese you’ve ever eaten. And thick. Their house salad was far better than average with lots of green olives and larger than most others. I can’t wait to bring one of their pizzas home to the family and see what the family’s reaction will be because they haven’t known of this place. I will be «King of the Castle» — for one night.
Mole

This is a new Italian joint in the college village shopping center. It’s a few doors down from No. 1 Chinese. The Village Café was in the location originally and has been several other restaurants before it’s current incarnation of Scugnizzi. (Skoo-​knee-​zee)
The outside patio is a really nice touch but, somehow feels out of place in this strip shopping center. The neighborhood is a mix and has generally been a rough little area until the latest expansion of High Point University.
The menu is fairly deep with an offering of pizzas, traditional Italian dishes, sandwiches, stromboli’s and calzones.
They offer a selection beers, wine, tea and soft drinks. Coke is the anchor soft drink.
Fresh bread was brought to the table with a glazed balsamic dipping sauce. Skip this. It might have been me but, it tasted sickly sweet to me. Instead get the olive oil and red pepper dipping sauce. To me this is a better choice. The bread was hot and fresh. It had garlic in it. The dough the use for the homemade bread is also the same dough they use for Sicilian style pizza.
We ordered pizza by the slice and I got one thin crust and one Sicilian styled slice. I opted for onion, green pepper and minced garlic on my two slices.
Overall, I liked the taste of the pizza and would order it again. I would however skip the Sicilian pizza as the crust was way to bread like for my tastes. You may find that acceptable but, for my tastes it was bread overload.
All in all, I was happy with my experience here. The waitstaff was good at telling us about the menu but, they were not overly expedient in checking on our party.
I’ll definitely give them another try.

My boyfriend and I have eaten here a few times. We both loved it!!! So excited to have such a wonderful place to go that is so close to home!!! The bread is wonderful and we have had the pizza and several of the pasta dishes, the Salted Carmel Cheesecake is the best I have ever had and the coffee has always been wonderful too! We plan on enjoying many more meals here!

Darius C told me about this recently opened place several weeks ago, and suggested we give it a try, which we did, just this week. The restaurant is owned and operated by Tony Coppola, who also owns the Elizabeth’s Pizza in Oak Ridge, and Blue Naples in Madison.
It is in an older, L-​shaped strip center just beyond the ever expanding High Point University. Though the shopping center has seen better days, the restaurant is bright and clean, and nicely decorated, creating a very pleasant atmosphere for a quick lunch or a lazy, casual dinner.
The menu is similar to Elizabeth’s, fairly broad, including all the usual Italian options — specialty sandwiches (calzone, stromboli, cheese steak, subs, and more), all the favorite pastas (including Linguine with White Clam Sauce) with a nice variety of sauce options, and of course, Pizza. In addition, they offer steaks, chops, shrimp, grilled chicken, and a decent wine list — so it moves beyond Elizabeth’s menu, in a more upscale direction, interesting approach at this location.
We tried the 2 Slice Pizza Lunch special, and an Original Stromboli for lunch, with a take away order, for later consumption, of Linguine with White Clam Sauce & and an Italian Sub (loaded, sans onions). While awaiting our repast, we chewed away on a complimentary serving of excellent Focaccia with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and grated cheese.
The pizza was very, very nice — loaded with gooey cheese, a nice tomato sauce (even if slightly thin in application), sharp tasting pepperoni, green pepper, and even some freshly chopped tomato — all that is needed is to throw on some red pepper flakes to seal the deal.
The Stromboli was also good, indeed very good — perfectly baked, a nice amount of meat and the same gooey cheese in the main ¾’s, though both ends were just bread, a hint of cheese. The Linguine was nice, with a decent amount of in the shell clams, but a little short on overall flavor (a little clam juice?), which a liberal dose of red pepper flakes helped, but didn’t entirely heal. The Italian Sub was nicely done, though the roll lacks crustiness.
The service was very nice, though admittedly the customer pressure was very lite, and the pricing was reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food. All and all a very pleasant meal, and some very good take away. We’ll be back to try more dishes.
