Trek Bicycle Store of Highland Park

It’s the nicest bike store I’ve seen yet — there’s even a training facility attached. They have the most expensive bikes I’ve ever seen. However, they had a sale that was much greater than any other bike retailer or Trek retailer I could find. The staff is very outgoing and helpful. They let me test ride in their open parking lot to ensure I was getting the right fit. They provided me with useful information that allowed me to zero in on the perfect bike.

The place has a wide variety of bikes to suit everyone’s needs. There are kids bikes, mountain bikes, and Trek bikes. You could probably get any of these bikes way cheaper somewhere else as this location is pretty pricey.
The worst part is the service. The workers could care less about the customers unless you are coming in for a repair, it could take an hour to purchase something. Nobody even asks if you need help.

The customer service at Trek was amazing! We bought three bikes — husband, me, 9 year old daughter — and the salesman took the time to answer all of our questions. We tried different bikes, took test rides, and really spent a bit of time deciding. In the end, we were extremely happy with our choices and very impressed with all of the help. Our daughter’s bike had to be assembled and, although they were busy, it was done in 30 minutes. This included minor adjustments to our bikes. We got her a helmet, and, again, time and care were given to finding the right fit and one she was happy with. We went back a week later to buy a bike rack and rack lock. Not only did they price match Amazon, but they assembled the rack, added the lick, and installed it in our hitch! We will definitely be going there for all of our biking needs! I need to keep up the momentum for my plans to hit up a centurion. I also needed an option that would allow me to bike to work on days where it isn’t #raining or 9000 degrees and Hoo-​Mid. So I hit up Trek.
Chris hooked me up with an upright road bike. This is suitable for long rides or the short 5 mile ride to work. It was also awesome for my tour around the lake today. He took my budget into consideration when making the sale which is really important.
I had a couple of preferences: no full dip for a women’s bike, not a full road (I am uncomfortable being hunched over), and I didn’t want to spend more than $ 500 since I already have a bike. My goal when making the purchase was to have it cost less than what it would cost to ship my bike to IL. Chris followed through with my specs and I rode out of the store with a shiny white bike that I immediately rode in the city. I LOOOOOOOVVVVEEEE IT!
The facility is spotless. Service is fast and friendly. The sales staff is knowledgeable and would be able to help you at any biking level or any price range.
You get a free tune up within 30 days after the bike is broken in and then a free tune up in one year. This is not as great as some of the mom & pops lifetime service plans, but at least it is something to cover your needs initially.
Definitely check out Trek in Highland park if you’re suburban and in need of new wheels!

This place is fantastic in terms of service. We’ve gone a few times when bike shopping and sales staff were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. There was no pressure to by, just friendly advice. The brand really speaks for itself after all.
I also get my tune-​ups done here. They have some of the quickest turn around in the area, which is important as the bike shops on the North Shore get pretty backed up. They also allow you to schedule a tune-​up, which helps so you can ride up until you bring it in.
On more than one occasion, I’ve brought my bike in for really simple fixes like a bolt that fell off and got lost and they were quick to fit my bike on the same day and sometimes don’t even charge if it’s small enough and they’ve got the extra part.
I highly recommend this store to anyone looking for advice on a purchase or for servicing. The customer service is phenomenal.

It took a little while and finally asking to get some help. The man that helped us was knowledgeable on the bikes and ultimately helped us make a good decision. The store is nice, staff is adequate, and happy with my purchase.

After a horrible experience at my local bike shop (see my review for Village Cycle), my experience at the Trek Store was a complete 180. I wanted a 2013 60 cm Domane 4.5 because it is an awesome bike and the 2013 is running at a $ 500.00 discount right now. My local shop told me that there were no more in the country and that I should wait and order a 2014(at full price of course). I called the Trek store and they told me there were 24 left in my size at the Trek warehouse (WTF Village Cycle?). I went in on Sunday and did a test ride. Loved the bike. I ordered one and it was in the shop, assembled, and ready for fitting and pickup on Wednesday! Everyone I dealt with was super helpful and knowledgable. I spent a lot of money on the bike so I needed to be a little budget minded on some of my accessories. They were totally cool with helping me find the best stuff for my budget. They didn’t pressure me with the upsell at all, even though I wound up going with more upper middle range stuff on my own. They custom fit he bike for me, gave me a quick tutorial on the drivetrain, and even installed my bike carrier for free! Overall great shop full of real, down to earth bike people. These folks all ride and love bikes and it shows.

Shopping with 2 little ones is never a good idea, but if you must do some bicycle shopping with little munchkins in tow hit up Trek. As soon as we walked in my 2 ½ yr old ran over to the kids corner filled with toys and a movie (the incredibles were playing on this particular Saturday). And while she was entertained in the kids corner, her baby brother slept peacefully in his stroller and my husband and I checked out their impressive bike collection.
We were helped by Hailey who knows her stuff when it comes to bikes. It took all about 5 minutes for her to find the perfect bike for me and I was very satisfied after one loop around their parking lot. It took a little longer for my husband to find one he liked, but he too found what he was looking for thanks to Hailey.
We were happy w/​their selection, but decided to take a day to think about it since it was the first time we had looked at bikes. We ended up going with less expensive options that we found at Green Bay Cycles in Winnetka, but I’d be open to coming back here for bike gear in the future. If only to entertain my 2 ½ year old who left the bike store kicking and screaming because she was having so much fun.

Wow, what an amazing store. It’s like Disney Land for cyclist. The variety, displays and amount of space at this place is like nothing I’ve see at other bike shops. It’s like the Target of bike stores — clean, well-​organized, easy to navigate.
It is on the expensive side, but bikes aren’t cheap. Remember that you’re paying for the store’s knowledge as well as the product, so take advantage. Ask questions, try it out.

Awesome Shop! Great Service! Clean! Bought my bike here a few years back and love it! The Vision Quest Facilities rounds it off nicely and makes the cycling experience so much more than what you’d expect!!! Great job gang!

Terrible experience at this store today. I came in to return an item and the person helping me was rude, questioning my reasons for returning the item (I simply said I didn’t really need the jersey and it was expensive), he was haughty, pressing me to not return the item. Then he looks at my receipt which indicates that I bought the item a little more than 30 days prior, t ells me that the policy is a 30 day return (this is no where indicated on the receipt), he gets special permission from the manager to take the return (after having me wait quite awhile). then tells me that I have to have the credit card on me that the purchase was made with, I spent a lot of time getting the correct credit card number for him, then tried to get his attention to finish the transaction,. He ignored me. Someone else came over and asked if he could help me, which he then did. When I indicated to him that I had a bad experience with the attitude of the other staff person he apologized and said «It;s because he’s German.» I kid you not, really. What does that have to do with anything??? As angry as I was with salesperson number one I doubt his behavior had anything to do with his country of origin and I don’t appreciate anyone sterotyping anyone for any reason!

So, I am clearly the odd one out, and I dont know if I just caught them on an off day, but I thought the employees were all very condescending and unfriendly. Not to mention I really felt like they didnt want my business at all. Sorry if I am not a hard core cyclist, but I’d like to be treated with respect anyway. Not going back there ever. I’ll load my bikes up and drive the extra miles if I have to.

Just purchased my first Trek bike from this store. Not only do they have a great selection, but their staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable.
Brian helped me select the perfect bike for my needs and he took the time to explain the different types as well as answer my questions regarding bike mounts for my car and other accessories I might need to make my rides more enjoyable. Also, you could take a bike out for a test-​ride in the parking lot.
Bottom line: Great selection, Knowledgeable staff & Fantastic service.

If you love bikes and biking you’ll love this store and the people who work in it. Everyone here is knowledgeable, enthusiastic, supportive and helpful.
