Hawthorn Farm Learning Years Day School has been serving families since 1973! We serve families with children aged 6 weeks to 10 years old. Learning Years is proud of its professionally trained teachers who combine both academic preparation and important practical experience. In addition to our exceptional long term teachers, we have excellent environments for children throughout the school. We love getting to know our families and having the privilege and opportunity to teach and care for all of the children who attend our school. We specialize in Early Childhood Education!

History

Established in 1973.

Learning Years Day School was a pioneer in Washington County when it was founded in 1973. Learning Years continues to be a leader in the childcare/​preschool industry today. Hawthorn Farm Learning Years, Inc. is an Oregon Corporation established in 1998 by Joe and Tina McDaniel, together with Directors, Sandi Bailey and Janet Smith, strive for a daily goal of excellence in early Childhood Education, a clean school, a friendly and loving staff, and a safe environment for children. Sandi has worked at Learning Years since 1976 and prior to employment was a parent in the school. Janet has worked at Learning Years for 21 years. Tina McDaniel has worked at Learning Years for 30 years and in 2011 completed her Masters in Education with specialization in Early Childhood Education. Our goal for our school has always been and will continue to be vested in seeking improvement so that the children receive optimal benefits as they attend our school, grow and develop.

Business Owner

Tina began working for Learning Years in 1984 as a Senior in High School and as a Swimming instructor. She wanted to work with children while attending college where she would earn a degree in accounting. However; the children captured her heart and she was forever changed deciding to devote her career to children. She graduated from Portland State University in 1988 with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Speech communication. She loves working with all ages, but her favorite age are the 4 year olds. She worked as an Assistant Director, Director and Overseer of several Learning Years locations until 1988 when she and her husband, Joe, purchased one of the centers. She continued to work in an Administrative role adding another building right next door in 2001. In 2011, she completed her childhood goal of attaining a Master’s Degree in Education with specialization in Early Childhood Education. Tina loves working and connecting directly with the children and their families!
