History
Established in 1990.
Doug Arnott is originally from Sydney, Australia. His great grandfather started Arnott’s Biscuits, famous for its TIM TAMS. Doug was inspired by the backpacker business in Cairns, Australia to turn an investment property into an operational budget hotel. Over the year our tours have gone from one vehicle to a fleet of 8 and we have continously upgraded the lodge. In 1998, we bought an adjoining property and created our deluxe private bathroom units. We recently upgraded our dormitories into new categories and put in beautiful ceramic tile bathroom and kitchens in our semi-private units. Arnott’s Lodge continues to move with the market in evolving the property and tours.
Meet the Business Owner
Doug A.
Business Owner
Owner Doug Arnott has had an interesting career. He began as a junior accountant in Sydney, Australia moved to Hawaii as accountant for the second phase of Hawaii’s famous Ala Moana Center. He then moved to Tahiti to manage a small hotel and on to Southeast Asia to sell hotel computer systems. Today, after 22 years running Arnott’s Lodge and its tour division, Doug spends part of his time as a member of Rotary and also has an interest in community projects especially with a small remote elementary school on the Big Island. You will often see him working on the property as he enjoys its physical maintenance.
