Piggly Wiggly

We have been going to Piggly Wiggly for 15 years now and I have never been as disappointed as I was this year. There were many items out of date. There were containers of yogurt that were 2 months past their expiration and a ton of raw meat that was brown. We will be taking our business elsewhere from now on.

Can we talk about how cute this grocery is?! They had water and BACON outside for doggie guests (not sure if they can come in) and are just so quaint. We stopped in for coffee and some vanilla bean and we’re happy to find a nice selection of South Carolina coffees onto choose from and there were even coupons taped up next to the spices, which we used. So sweet that they do that. We ask came across a great local ginger ale that has since made some nice whisky gingers. We have plans to stop back for more before we head out of town. Lastly, we didn’t get anything but their seafood selection smelled and looked amazing! I’m tempted to just get something to take back if I can– everything looked so fresh. Love this store!

I’m Big on the Pig!!! This is a fantastic grocery store for my Hilton Head Family vacation. I can cruise on my bike anytime I fancy. We get beer, piggly wiggly shirts.
Sundries and butt wipes. They have a butt wipes aisle to lessen the confusion.
Staff is super friendly way more friendly than the Bi-​Lo down the street.
I would have given them a 5 but the prices are a big high here.

I’m a fan of the piggly Wiggly — not just because they make cute shirts my kids can wear. But everyone who works here is SO NICE. Seriously smiles and merriment that just reinforces that we are on vacation. They have the basics and a few more — boogie boards, beer, beach basics. If you don’t have a PIG card they will happily scan one for you to get the sale price. The fresh fish and meat were very pricey but I mostly expected that based on location/​vacation spot.

My wife and I rented a beach house for a few days in Hilton Head. We love to make dinner one or two nights during a vacation and eat on our own balcony. In order to do this, we need to find a decent grocery store.
For a grocery store in the heart of a vacation town, I was pleasantly surprised by the good prices. Compared to Chicago, prices were ~5% cheaper. Compared to other stores in the area, prices were ~5% higher.
Variety in the store was also great. While this location is in the middle of a tourist mall, they had everything you would want a mega grocery store to carry. That said, the produce was terrible. Large variety, but most items were within a day or two of going bad.
I was very surprised by the amazing beer and wine selection at the store. Nothing too fancy, but they carry a huge selection to help full your cooler for the beach.

They do have what you need for such a small store. Prices are a little higher but thats to be expected. However the quality of the produce is poor. Most of the produce is all ready at its peak for freshness. We ended up driving a little further out to Krogers.

Great location to stop in after lunch at Steamers. Very small store. Vintage beach town vibe. Clean and bright. Lots of funny Pig gear.

Love this place! Was at HHI for family vacation, and stayed right across from Piggly Wiggly. Good selection of grocery and daily essentials. Prices are reasonable, staff is friendly. Having Piggly Wiggly so close really solved a lot of our vacation needs and emergencies. Piggly Wiggly was our friend~

Very impressed with the Atlantic salmon today. Fresh, fresh, fresh. Made it for a couple of people who said they don’t like salmon. I argued that they just hadn’t had good salmon. Tonight I was right. Both loved the fresh salmon, prepared deliciously. A+

What other supermarket has BUTTWIPES??? LOL. Our kids got a huge kick out of it last year and it was the first thing they checked out when we returned this year!
Fresh shrimp price is unbeatable! Southern hospitality at it’s best!

This place caters to tourist with a small but broad selection of local items. The wine selection was surprisingly good also. What else was good? The seafood counter. Here’s a tip: they will steam your shrimp for you gratis if you ask.

If you are staying on the island & need groceries there are MUCH better supermarkets to visit. We will often go here to get beer, but we usually skip the food. It’s overpriced & not the greatest quality. And the produce is sub par, never real fresh. Better choices for groceries are Publix, Harris Teeter or the Pig near shelter cove.

Crowded and people pushing… That was my experience. Not many choices and not products I was looking for. I would much rather go a little further to get what i want in a much less crowded place than shop at the Piggly Wiggly.

There are supermarkets and there are supermarkets.
Let it be said, the East Coast of the United States of America has two of the best supermarkets on the planet.
One of them is located in Spring Valley, Washington D.C. Nobody knows about it, it is called Superfresh. I intend to keep it that way.
The second is this supermarket. The world famous Piggly Wiggly of Coligny.
Has frikkin Whole Foods been mentioned with love in landmark movies? I do not think so, but the Pig has been named with love in Steel Magnolias and O Brother Where art Thou?, to name but two,
I remember being a young teenager in Ireland in the late 80s and seeing Steel Magnolias for the first time. There couldn’t possibly really be a store called Piggly Wiggly could there? Then, I left my home and my family, I was no more than a boy, in the company of strangers, in the quiet of the railway station, running scared… to go and live in the South and find out for myself.
Yes, Paul, there is a Piggly Wiggly. And what a fine store it is.
It is not the ragged people who come here — looking for places only they would know, because let’s face it, Hilton Head has a no ragged people policy. This is one fine supermarket for three reasons:
1. Cheap Booze.
2. All the fine delicacies you could possibly want to eat on vacation.
3. Beach supplies, including their world famous Piggly Wiggly @ Coligny T shirt, of which I think I might be the only person in the entire North Eastern /​Mid Atlantic Unites States of America to own one.

I LOVE the Pig! Load up on your vacation necessities (including wine!) at this location. I was especially excited to try the local seafood that they offer. We tried the HH shrimp, which they steamed while we waited in Old Bay seaoning; then we took them home, peeled, and ate, no cooking required! We also tried some cobia, which we liked too.
You can find all your basics here, and I found the prices to be fair. It does get extremely crowded towards dinnertime since it’s kind of small. An in-​store bakery would be amazing!

Quite Possibly the Best Fresh Seafood to be had on Hilton Head unless you catch it yourself or meet the fishing boat on the dock. Actually this is better because you don’t have to clean it :)
