History

Established in 1976.

For founders Ruben Henriquez and Roger Awe, two high school buddies, excellent service, integrity, honesty and quality were paramount right from the outset. After over 37 years in business, Roger Awe is semi-​retired and living out of state.

Ruben Henriquez, owner and founder of Wise Hearing, graduated from Monclair State University with a Bachelor of Science degree. Mr. Henriquez is an Audioprosthologist and Board Certified Hearing Instrument Specialist. He is commited to long standing goals for better quality and availability of education for the profession involved in hearing health care and delivery.

Mr. Henriquez is a Hearing health professional who has met the highest standards in order to serve the hearing impaired and is also a member in good standing of the International Hearing Society and the New Jersey Association of Hearing Health Professionals.

Excellent service. I had a problem with my Maui Jims that I bought there three months ago yet I no longer had my receipt. They very readily took them back and replaced them on the spot. Not many places would do that these days. We’ve bought other sunglasses there in the past and will continue to do so in the future.

I went here for a FULL eye exam and got what a thought was a COMPLETE prescription for glasses. But they left off a part of the prescription that I actually needed to order the lenses. So when I went back to get the information, they said it would be an additional charge of $ 10. Are you serious! Essentially the prescription is worthless without that extra information. This is obviously a way for them to charge more than what is normally allowed under my VSP insurance policy. It’s like ordering dinner at a restaurant and the restaurant charging you extra for the plate. Pennywise and pound foolish because they just lost all my future business and hopefully yours as well!

From the outside it appears to have not been updated since the 1980’s, but their selection of frames is actually one of the best in town. The saleswomen (whenever I’ve been there it’s only been women) will give you their honest feedback. I appreciate their honesty, though I can see how it might rub some people the wrong way.

I visited Wise Vision recently for my annual, and it was a brilliant experience. Dr. Fahimi treated me with the utmost care. I was incredibly impressed with her professionalism and technique. The same can be said about the Opticians, Leslie and Yanelli, & Sara. They treated me wonderfully! I purchased a pair of Tom Ford lenses, and the turnover to receive my frames, fitted and all, was notably fast! Overall, the service is thorough, and I will continue to visit this practice for as long as I am a resident of New Jersey! You should too!

I came in to get my Tom Ford sunglasses repaired and the woman was amazing. She fixed them immediately. I was in and out in under 5 minutes.
They have a great selection of stylish prescription optical and great prices!

Dr. Fahimi was wonderful and gave me the most comprehensive and thorough eye exam I’ve ever had. When it came time to pick new glasses I was helped by someone, one on one, who showed me which frames would work for my lenses and helped me pick the perfect pair. My contacts came in a reasonable amount of time, as did my glasses. My only complaint is that the frames I bought would have been much cheaper online if I didn’t have insurance to cover most of the cost (with insurance I actually paid a lot less than the online price but still — why the huge markup?). So if you don’t have insurance for your frames you may want to check the pricing online before ordering through Wise Vision! With that said I will certainly be going here for all of my eye care needs as long as I’m still living in the area.

The customer service at Wise Vision is excellent. Over the past year I have gotten contacts, glasses, sunglasses and prescription sunglasses. With each purchase I was guided to find the most appropriate fit for me. All eyewear was ordered and received very quickly. Recently, I ordered a pair of sunglasses that were not what I was expecting when they came in. The Wise Vision team not only allowed me to return the glasses for full credit but personally ordered different frames that they thought would fit my style. When returning to the store I was greeted with the pre-​selected frames and the very first pair I tried on I loved.
The team at this store really took the time to know me and because of that were able to take what could have been an unfortunate situation to an incredible personalized experience. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Also, the optometrist is absolutely wonderful. I had a minor eye infection and she treated me accurately and was better in no time.

I just wanted to say how impressed I am with the customer service here. Everyone is friendly when I have come to visit this store.
I typically come here to get adjustments done to my reading glasses and my sunglasses and they NEVER charge me – and I am prepared to pay for that service!
Most surprising part is that I didn’t buy the specific glasses at that store. However, I will plan to buy my next pair of glasses there. They deserve to get money from me.

I love Wise Vision. I used to live in Hoboken but now live in Brooklyn and prefer them to any of my options out here. (Park Slope Eye is the worst: CRAZY expensive and has lousy, self-​entitled customer service. Yuck!) I will travel almost TWO hours to schlep out to Wise Vision, especially with my vintage frames I keep getting. They’ve always handled them masterfully, the staff is very friendly and has even pulled some strings to get my prescription lenses ready with these sometimes difficult frames. Nothing but stars here :)

There was some confusion over my insurance at the beginning but that is because I have a new weird dual plan. I have been coming here for 6 years and I have always been completely satisfied with the service. I was surprised when the previously doctor left. I wish a notice had gone out to customers, but I have been very happy with the care I have received from Dr. Papaiya. And the service from your staff over the years. No complaints, only compliments. Thank you!

Great shop with a friendly and knowledgeable staff. I went here to buy sunglasses (not prescription) and they were helpful and had a great, classic selection. They even adjusted the pair I bought as well as the pair I was wearing (bought at another store) for no charge!
They also offer an occasional 20% off designer glasses.

I don’t normally get my eyes checked because I don’t have problems with my vision. However, I decided this year I would do my due diligence and be healthy. Wise Vision was great. I was able to get an appointment the same day I called. Again, while I do not get exams often, this was one of the most thorough exams I’ve had. The doctor was friendly and explained anything he was about to do or was seeing with my eyes. With 20⁄15 vision, he didn’t push for me to get glasses and only suggested Rx sunglasses if I would be driving a lot. The sales staff was also very friendly and helpful looking at frames. Ultimately I was not ready to pay the price for Rx sunglasses being my Rx was very minor. I would definitely recommend Wise Vision!

My experience with Wise Vision has been nothing short of ideal. They have a new Optometrist who is incredibly thorough and knowledgeable, and a staff that is attentive, enthusiastic and patient with even the most indecisive customers (ie. myself). Their selection of frames is small but diverse, and includes glasses and sunglasses. Wise is the perfect example of a local business that will stand the test of time because they are doing everything right.
