Leslie’s French Pastry

I love love love eclairs. I have learned though that not all eclairs are created equal. At Leslie’s they set the Éclair standard. Dark chocolate frosting on the top of the firm but flaky pastry and filled with thick yummy crème in the middle. I just gained 10 pounds thinking about them but if you’re near Leslie’s stop in for one or some of their other delicious French pastries then go to the gym.

This seems to me more like a commercial bakery and by that I mean catering, boxes of sweets for the office, etc. There is a single table with two chairs inside, but one gets the distinct impression they are there more for show than anything else. Very little attention is spent with the décor, so this is more of a grab-​and-​go proposition.
There is one long dessert case to the side and another one about half the size facing the door. Various cakes, breads and so on also line the walls. We wound up with a hodge-​podge of items, as is usual with places where we don’t know if we will be returning.
In this case, the coconut chocolate chip cookies were cloyingly sweet and inedible, even for my son. The crème pastry was tolerable, as far as the cream, but the actual pastry itself needed a little more work and a lot more freshness. The chocolate éclair was quite good, the one bright spot, aside from canned diet Mt. Dew. The two pieces of cake that I had were again slathered in gloppy frosting and with slightly stale cake, it was all just too much. I think is definitely one of those places where you have to get right the right thing and of all what we got, only one, maybe two of those things would have qualified… excepting the diet Mt. Dew cans, of course.
I’d put this closer to 2.5, but the staff was pretty nice, so they can have the bump. For my money, this is not the French bakery of choice, though…

I will go with the full five stars… but, if I went more frequently, the guilt might drag it down to four. Guilt can do that. So set it aside and embrace the excellent cakes, cookies and other desserts. My favorite is a toss-​up between a very nice éclair and an excellent caramel nut brownie. Only downside is wanting the portion a biiiiiit larger. Very nice cakes-​to-​order for special occasions… and there is always a good selection in the case for drop-​bys. They have some very nice breakfast sweet rolls, as well.

We recently got married and Leslie’s French Pastries created a splendid wedding cake! Bill and Kim were great to work with and they gave us exactly what we asked for. Our chocolate cake with pineapple filling and white rum icing was not only gorgeous, it was delicious. Our guests raved about it!
We also love their pastry rings, meat pies, eclairs, and breads! EXCELLENT!

It’s rare you find a bakery where everything is made from scratch daily and that has such a wide variety of delicious offerings. The eclairs are unlike any other. Their danish is perfect. The cake is unforgettable. And pretty much everything there is an unique experience.

As most bakeries go so avant garde, it’s nice to go to a lovely neighborhood bakery that NEVER disappoints. Their chocolate rum cake with pineapple filling is a family favorite. Their pastries are fresh and very yummy and the staff is always eager to help. Love Leslie’s French Pastries.

A lot of case space with cakes, brownies, pastries, and other various sundries. Nice staff, and the hot cross bun was delicious. Possibly my favorite in the valley. They even let me take pics of the place. Bonus.

Got me some French macaroons and discounted cake and left a happy camper! Super friendly staff and excellent products, am so glad we found this gem of a bakery!

The best French bakery in Salt Lake. Leslie’s offers delicious birthday cakes and cookies. Our family always get our birthday cakes here, with the German chocolate being the favorite. Their cakes are well balanced, not overly sweet like grocery store cakes, and wonderfully moist and fluffy.

We bring in Leslie’s pastries on special occasions at the office. They are amazing, delicious and non-​fattening. Ok — two out of three. The eclairs are popular with the office folks — as are the pull a parts, sticky cake with nuts — well, really everyone loves everything we have every ordered. So skip the donuts, bagels and in-​store bakery and go with quality.

Great food, just a little on the expensive side

They’re pastries are good enough, however DO NOT USE THEM FOR WEDDING CAKES! We had been referred to them by relatives, I showed the exact picture of the cake I wanted. I was assured they could do the job. The cake that was delivered to my wedding last July was the ugliest cake, I or anyone else had ever seen. I was so EXTREMELY disappointed. They used a gel icing for the detail work, it was sloppy and looked horrendous. Even though it was hideous, it tasted ok, even though he didn’t do the flavors or fillings I asked for. Disappointed. Disappointed. Disappointed.

I have been coming here since I was a little girl. The rum cakes are the best! :) Everything there is delicious!

This is my new favorite place to indulge in my admittedly rare sweet tooth. Rugrat and I checked it out on a whim a few weeks ago, and it’s now our go-​to place for a breakfast pastry every Wednesday morning on our way to drop her off at school
The pastries are everything you want in a pastry… buttery, flaky deliciousness. They aren’t over-​glazed either so you really can taste the pastry part without being overwhelmed by the sugar. I can’t decide if I like the almond or the pecan danishes better. Oh, and there are cheese and fruit danishes, chocolate covered shortbread and their caramel brownies are like a brownie with fudge as the icing. Oh good hell, just get any of them and you will love yourself forever. Rugrat is especially fond of the mint brownies.
Eventually I’ll get around to trying the cakes and breads, but right now I’m indulging in trying all the different pastries.
The ladies who work there are always super excited to explain each of the different items and make suggestions on what to get.

Good Bakery, friendly staff, got the basic pastries for decent price.

I walked in 15 mins before closing time on Mother’s Day eve. The two young ladies were obviously tired but they smilingly helped me and made suggestions, including fishing for cakes in the cooler.
Their Chocolate rum pineapple cake looked great and tasted better! The éclair was yummy. My impulsive buy of orange buns was deemed to be too good for my health but the half that I ate was delicious!

Holy mackeral! You will love this place. Guaranteed. This is a traditional French bakery. My favorites are the raspberry almond T-​Ring, the apple cinnamon loaf (makes AMAZING french toast at home), and the peanut butter crisps. They also make all sorts of cookies, cakes, loaves, rolls, treats and goodies. I haven’t tried all of them yet, but I will.

I can’t speak to many of the pastries at Leslie’s, but I can SHOUT about their orange rolls.
If you’ve ever been to an event that was catered by Meier’s catering in SLC, you might have noticed that one of the best things they serve is their orange roll. And, they get them from Leslie’s.
It’s flaky, buttery, and very orange zesty. My favorite thing about the orange roll though, is the bright orange flavor. Often I find that things which are orange flavored are reminiscent of baby aspirin. Not so with these orange rolls. These are a sticky, orange-​y, delightful, unquestionable must-​try!
Other than that, I’ve had a few things there — cookies and such, all old standards, but nothing that blew me away.
That’s okay though — Leslie’s is a good, solid, old-​fashioned bakery that delivers exactly what it looks like it should — classic bakery fare, made with love and care.
Go and sample their wares. Let me know what you think. But make sure, above all else, that you leave with a dozen orange rolls. You’ll be glad you did!

This is hands down the best bakery for desserts in the state. I’ve loved it since childhood. The rum torte cake is to die for and one of my top 10 desserts of all time. The pastries are unique and flavorful. Be sure to sample the day old rack as you can get everything for a bargain price!
