Lovely spot by the beach. Expensive and too loud to talk near to the band, but pleasant all the same.

Poor service, barely spoke to us at the bar. The drink was good, but I didn’t appreciate this random woman continuously handing us the bill when 1. She wasn’t even our bartender/server and 2. We were not even close being through with ordering. I don’t appreciate the obvious need to rush four African American woman out of your bar without even asking if we want anything else to eat or drink, or when it’s clear we were going to order multiple drinks and food platters. Don’t waste your time coming here, you can always find a beachfront bar. Another thing is that parking is a headache so do yourself a favor and über or taxi. I will never come here again and if anything I will beg people to not waste their money or support a business that clearly doesn’t speak to African Americans. Mind you, the woman rushing us out within our first 20 minutes there was having all of the laughter and conversation with other tourists on the other side of the bar, who you guessed it, we’re not Black! Not one to pull the race card, but it was evident that this woman had a problem from when we first walked up. I feel bad for the Bartenders under her who will have to suffer the repercussions of her indecency to people.

This cute outdoor hotel bar that overlooks the ocean was a nice place to stop for a break on our walk to downtown Waikiki from the Hilton Hawaiian Village. We decided to walk along the boardwalk to get there and after trudging through sand with no shade for about 20 minutes on a very warm day, we were thrilled to come across the Mai Tai Bar. My boyfriend decided to try one of their Mai Tai’s and he thought it was very good and really strong. I ordered a Moscow Mule, which was also quite strong, but tasted so refreshing. Our bartender was friendly and prompt, I just wish that it wasn’t SO expensive! If their prices were more realistic, we would have stayed for a second drink.

We had trouble finding this place but it’s located inside the Royal Hawaiian, ON the beach. Came here around 5:40PM hoping to catch happy hour but there wasn’t any. It took a while for someone to come by to greet us. It seems like there were only 2 – 3 servers for the entire bar area! Drinks were around $ 12 – 14. My friend wanted a drink in a pineapple so we got a piña colada in a pineapple($ 35) and asked for some slices of pineapple. The drink was really big but I think a normal piña colada is only $ 12 or so. I don’t think it was worth the price, but it was very good. It wasnt overly sweet and had hints of coconut. I saw other Mai tai drinks and they looked very strong. We sat by the beach, people watched and enjoyed our drink for about an hour. Service was good but slow. We didn’t order any food but saw a lot of people ordering pizza.

Don’t want to stray too far from the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, Mai Tai Bar is just the right place to enjoy the ocean view with a umbrellaed cocktail in hand. Also check out Unilocal Elite Kelli S’s review:

After walking around Waikiki for a while, stopped by here with a friend to get an afternoon drink. Don’t judge, it’s our day off… Plus it’s happy hour somewhere right?! Lol. The view was really nice because it’s right on the beach, but there were so many pigeons! It was disgusting! They’d fly right over us and I kept worrying that it was gonna leave some droppings. Needless to say we left after one drink. I ordered the frozen Mango Margarita which was refreshing to have after our long walk in Waikiki, but it was a little too sour for me. Our drinks came fast though, even though they were kind of busy on a mid afternoon. Our waitress was friendly and very attentive. I wished something could be done about the pigeons, but I guess that can’t be helped, it’s nature.

Perfect place with the one of the best views in Waikiki for outdoor lunch, dinner or just a drink. Spent Valentine’s day with my friend here. Service was really good, life music, and the most magical view from patio. We were seated right next to beach. It was mind blowing experience. One of the best sunset spots in Hawaii. Had a couple of my favorite drinks — Coconut Mojito and Lava Flow.

This was our go-to place while in Waikiki. The location is perfect. The ambiance was relaxed and chill .One could sense the history of this grand hotel that the bar is located at . We spent many hours and many nights here at a table next to the beach. The people watching and sunsets were entertaining. The view of Diamond head is tough to beat. The Mai Tais were the best we had on the entire trip . They had live music at night and we had the pleasure of viewing a wedding reception/luau one evening . Festive experience! I can’t wait to go back.

We had a low key family dinner here while staying at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. It’s located right on the beach so we had a gorgeous view of the sunset and ocean. Did you know the creator of the Mai Tai was commissioned to make a special version just for the Royal Hawaiian? It’s their Scratch Mai Tai and it was delicious! The Mai Tai bar also offers three more varieties of mai tais. For dinner we ordered the crispy chicken wings, garlic steak served pupu style, margherita pizza, and the truffle fries. Everything was good, but the chicken wings and the truffle fries really stood out for us. It was super busy on a Friday night and packed with tourists, but we enjoyed the vibe and the live music. Great time!

This is a wonderful bar in the Royal Hawaiian hotel. They have live music at night, and you never know who will show up and plop down next to you… could be a movie star or a regular Joe, as both love this place! The bar is all Koa wood, located steps off the beach. The staff are excellent, and they all make a great Mai Tai(and they all make it a little bit differently, according to their style!) Drinks are $ 10 and up, and they have great food(pizzas, burgers, appetizers and the like) This is a very peaceful spot to come and watch the sunset and relax with a cocktail… with spectacular views of Diamond Head! Some of the bar chairs have names on the back, so definitely check them out!

The boy-o and I made our way over to the Royal Hawaiian for the allegedly quintessential ‘Hawaiian experience’ of sipping mai tais at sunset here. Cheesy? Yes. Would I do it again? Yes, but not here(cocktails at sunset is always a good idea, guys). THELOWLIGHTS. — Very slow service(multiple requests for our drinks, water, the bill, etc.) — I personally didn’t care for either of the types of mai tais that we received — Rather expensive for what you’re getting + Depending on your table, you can get a pretty decent view of the sunset over the water I don’t think we’d return, as it seems to scream ‘tourist trap’(financially and service wise, at least), but it was a nice enough way to pass the time.

For the longest time, I never even knew the Mai Tai Bar at The Royal Hawaiian Hotel existed. The pink hotel is definitely iconic in Waikiki, but I guess I don’t venture to Waikiki that much. Actually, most times, if I’m passing The Royal Hawaiian, it’s to go to The Cheesecake Factory. Recently, though, I got to enjoy a late lunch at the hotel’s Mai Tai Bar. Located beachside, this area is great for a casual lunch or dinner. You get to enjoy views of the picturesque shoreline and it’s actually quite peaceful. Granted, maybe it’s more crowded during the weekends, but I was there on a weekday and definitely enjoyed my visit. I got to try some of the most popular dishes from the Mai Tai Bar. Though they’re more expensive than I normally would spend for lunch/dinner, the presentation and taste are quite the experience, if you’ve never dined here before. That, coupled with the fact that the staff is attentive, courteous and more than willing to go the extra mile for you, makes for an unforgettable experience that’ll leave you wanting more. Parking: Since I was unfamiliar with my surroundings, I valeted my car. There’s also a structure for the hotel, as well as The Royal Hawaiian Center. Here’s what I got to try during my visit: «Raw Bar»: This dish is one of the eatery’s most famous offerings, and those who love seafood are sure to be pleased. It features Asian poisson cru, cured Hamachi crudo and modern spicy ahi poke. My favorite of the three was the spicy ahi poke … it featured just the right amount of spice(not too spicy for me to handle) and it tasted really fresh and flavorful. Of the three dishes I got, this one was definitely the prettiest to look at. The presentation in of itself makes it worth it! The Hamachi was also delicious, as was the poisson cru. «Chef Colin’s Market Fish & Chips»: Fish and chips have to be one of my favorite dishes … hands down. So, when I saw fish and chips on the menu her, I was definitely curious to see what it would taste/look like. Chef Colin’s version wowed on all accounts. It featured beer battered mahi mahi, original beet ketchup, malt vinegar chips and ho farms yuzu pickles. The mahi mahi was a crisp, golden brown and every bite was like heaven. I pretty much devoured the whole thing without even using the ketchup, but the ketchup did have a nice flavor. The beets made it unique, for sure. You get a generous portion of fish with this entrée, and the fish itself is tender, moist, juicy and fresh tasting. Fish and chips is not just about the inside, but it’s also about that crunchy exterior and this one was amazing. The exterior was a perfect blend of crispy but not overly hard, and the texture was on point. I highly recommend this dish if you like fish and chips but are open to a twist on it. «Crispy Thai Calamari & Oysters»: I believe this was the first time I was trying oysters … period. I was always a little squeamish about oysters based on the way they looked, but I suppose the fact that these were fried helped to alleviate my fears. I loved the flavors of this dish, which included red coconut curry powder, pickled chilis and thai basil kaffir lime aioli. What a great blend! The calamari were crisp and the oyster, succulent, inside their perfectly fried exterior. But really, it’s the variety of spices included that make this app memorable. It definitely included a peppery kick, but again, I was relieved that it wasn’t too spicy for me to handle. I would readily order this again; great appetizer for sharing if you come with friends. «Nathan’s Lobstah Roll»: If I ever return to MTB, I am getting this entrée. I don’t find lobster roll sandwiches everywhere I go, and although this entrée is usually pricy, I’m willing to splurge on this eatery’s version. It features miso honey aioli, cucumber namasu, celery hearts, a butter split-top bun and lattice cut chips. I’m intrigued by the aioli and I can’t wait to taste the lobster. «Chocolate Seduction»: I didn’t order dessert on my first visit here, but if I did, this chocolate offering would be the first one up on my to-try list. It includes deconstructed chocolate cake, coconut, caramelized macadamia nuts and triple chocolate gelato. Now, this dessert sounds like heaven on earth except for the coconut component. I would order mine without that, but I anticipate trying the chocolate cake topped with gelato and caramelized mac nuts.

The Royal Hawaiian hotel is beautiful and I love the Mai Tai Bar but what happened to all the pink?! The bartender explained that new management rebranded hoping to appeal to a younger fresh crowd. I miss the pink napkins, aloha wear and umbrellas that made the iconic hotel memorable. The staff is the same friendly, smiling faces and the scratch mai tais are still my favorite cocktail. The ahi cracker sashimi is amazing and no longer on the menu at the Mai Tai Bar but if you ask they will make it for you since they offer it at the nearby azure restaurant. The prices are a bit high but for the location it is to be expected. The bar is right on the beach with a beautiful view which makes this place a great spot to bring visitors. I hope they bring back the pink!!!

Overpriced, but typical for the area. The Mai Tai bar has … a variety of mai tais(!) and other tropical cocktails all in the $ 12 – 15 range for 1 cocktail. But hey you’re on vacation, so just put that baby on the card and drink those dollars away. The drinks WERE pretty good, and pretty strong, but we did only stay for 1 drink, as there are so many more $ 15/cocktail places to choose from. The Mai Tai Bar is outside on the beach behind the Pink Royal Hawaiian hotel(which looks very nice, I might add). You can enter from the beach side, or through the hotel. We had no idea where we were going and ended up at the Sheraton next door, but eventually, we were rescued by expensive mai tais and all was restored in our Hawaii vacation stereotype. I’m reading Tina P’s review on the side bar right now seeing that I could have had mine in a carved out pineapple, so at the very moment, I“m pretty disappointed I didn’t pay $ 25 for a carved out pineapple mai tai. Guess I need to go back.

Such a hidden route to get here! It is inside the hotel. But Waikiki has the beautiful beach, so you can step out and then you are on the beach! The view is stunning, but the price is as well. I had two drinks at the bar, a mai tai for sure, and a piña colada. Just because we were in the mood of drinking and celebrating a little vacation and the beautiful weather. So I got drunk. very drunk and the high sugar with my poor empty stomach was just a bad combination. So I can’t remember much of the drink taste, I think the piña colada was like a smoothie, really good. Thankfully they gave some little snack with your drink. otherwise the food menu was expensive.

The Mai Tai Bar is found in the pink hotel(yes, that hotel, the one that’s been around for almost 90 years and is oozing style and chic and old-world charm.) The bar on the beach(well, almost)! You can see the ocean as you knock back a few signature drinks and you can watch the many bikini-clad bodies tanning themselves as well as the buff tattooed dudes showing off their tats. The wait staff are efficient and attentive(and our waiter was old enough to have just graduated from middle school). The drinks are not cheap(but what do you expect – this is Waikiki, in Honolulu and on the beach.) The bar is famous for its mai tais, so you should try one.

Nice views and nice outside seating. I love this hotel, so had to have a drink at this famous bar. After all, location, location, location! I’m sure you should have a Mai Tai while here, and one of us did in my party. I just had the coconut pineapple juice drink, no alcohol,(it was too early for me). The drink was definitely refreshing. The pineapple in Hawaii has to be the best tasting ever. It was mid afternoon, so no entertainment except for people watching, the view of the ocean and Diamond Head, and great company at our table. The 12-year-old waiter was very accommodating. To be fair, he only looked 12; actual age was 24. He immediately brought us all waters after only one in my group requested a water. Smart. He also kept the water glasses filled.

I think I was here like 8 times during my stay at the Royal Hawaiian. The Mai Tais and other specialty drinks are a bit pricey but it was easy for me to waddle back to my room. And it wasn’t as busy as Duke’s so I got to enjoy the nice views of Diamond Head, the beach and you can actually hear the ocean and waves from the bar area. They have lots of drinks to choose from and I went through most of the list, but I only wished I could have been there longer. The bartenders are pretty cool and they throw in some some snacks too. Too bad drinks are not allowed on the beach.
