I first dined at Surf Lanai for their Sunday brunch. Unfortunately that closed awhile ago, but I still enjoy breakfast at the restaurant that is Surf Lanai in the day and moonlights as Azure in the evening. You have your choice to eat indoors or outdoors. Although it can get hot and you may have to shoo away a couple of birds, I like sitting outdoors so I can enjoy the open air and the ocean view. I love eggs and the Surf Lanai has a loco moco made with braised beef short ribs that was just so delicious! I also like sweet and really wanted to order the Royal Bake Shop — banana bread French toast, but my kids wanted the waffle and the pancakes so I’m going to save that for next time. The Belgian waffle was excellent and I was surprised how yummy the banana mac buttermilk pancakes were. We finished everything! As expected, you’ll be paying resort prices. Each dish probably ranges from $ 16-$ 20, but it’s worth it.

The food is overpriced! The food sucks, zippys is better, I’m not a cook but I know I can cook better than what they have on the menu And the service sucked. Only 1 friendly waiter and he wasn’t our waiter

This was my second time visiting for breakfast. I forgot what I ate the first time but this time I had eggs, hash browns and toast. It was a simple plate but it was good and the portion size with perfect. There are birds that dive bomb you while you eat so keep your head on a swivel. Even with the birds bothering me I still enjoyed my meal. I expect to have breakfast here again on my next trip.

FIrst, Kam was our server and he was great. Attentive and he could knew the menu well. If I still worked at a hotel, I would have tried to have poached him. Today was a little too sunny and humid but the tables were under cabanas and the sun could be blocked with curtains. I stared with guava juice which was clearly fresh squeezed. No Meadow Gold here. At first the menu looked very traditional but the Fish and Chips I ordered were mahi mahi and deep fried long chinese green beans for chips. The mahi mahi was light and juicy. The«ketchup’ was a beet sauce and they used Filipino limes(I don’t know what they are really called) instead of lemons. Overall very satisfying. It ended with a Lychee Sorbet. Not too sweet and refreshing after the meal.

I hate writing negative reviews, but this restaurant provided the worst service my boyfriend and I have ever experienced at a dining establishment. It took incredibly long for us just to get water(which they never refilled) and we were never asked if we wanted to order any other beverages. We almost left at this point, but finally someone came out and took our order. After we ordered, our food only took a short while to come thank goodness. I ordered the waffle and my boyfriend ordered the pancakes with a side of bacon. The food was okay, but not worth the price. They actually forgot to bring out the side of bacon, so my boyfriend asked a waiter walking by and he blew us off. A different waiter brought it out a little later, and it wasn’t even warm. We just wanted to get out of there at this point, so we left cash on the table(she had already brought the check when she brought the food) and left. My boyfriend and I live on Oahu and came to the Royal Hawaiian for a mini staycation. Everything else at the hotel was great, but we will never be back to this restaurant. Save your money and eat somewhere else.

My friend staying at the Royal Hawaiian invited us to go over for breakfast yesterday. After a bad experience with Azure the other night, we hesitated. When we got there, it turned out that it’s the exact same restaurant! Surf lanai serves breakfast and lunch and Azure serves dinner. A little late, but this time we did get to sit outside and got a very nice beach view without asking. We enjoyed our breakfast very much. From food to service, it was heaven compared to the shitty experience we got from Azure. From hostess to servers, everyone was soo friendly. At least we felt welcomed this time. The servers came by a few times to check on us. That friendly service should be used even more at fine dining at night. But not… All the food we ordered was really decent. Steak and eggs, loco moco, benedicts, I would totally go back during breakfast hours!

Love, love, love the cabana seating with a view of a gorgeous beach dotted by pink umbrellas from the Pink Hotel, AKA the Royal Hawaiian. Perfect lunch menu with pupus, sandwiches and plenty of rum-based cocktails(of course). I had a Scratch Mai Tai, which was one of the best I’ve had during my week on the island. Yeah, I’ve had a few. Hey, it’s vacation! The mahi-mahi sandwich was pretty incredible. Impressively thick steak, very fresh fish. Absolutely delightful on a thick, but pillowy soft bun. My girlfriend really enjoyed her Caesar salad. Meanwhile, the poke appetizer was pretty good, but not quite amazing. Three varieties: Ahi, octopus and shrimp. Shrimp was the best… ah, if I could have giant plate filled with this shrimp poke I would be very happy for a long while… On top of that, our server, Dorothy, was super sweet. We’ve had a lot of great service in Waikiki, but she’s definitely the bestest. Like having an Auntie hosting you with kindness, love and fantastic food.

The food was pretty good. Breakfast for two was almost 50 bucks. Really expensive for breakfast. Also if you get uneasy with birds walking all around you during your whole meal, I’d suggest sitting inside. The waiter was definitely slow and you expect more for the price paid

This review is for the beach side service for food and drinks while using the beach chairs in front of the Royal Hawaiian. They have the best turkey club sandwich. Food and drinks are pricey but then again, everything is pricey in this area. Staff is friendly, drinks get served promptly and you can order food beach side staring at11 a.m. The Royal Hawaiian has a very expensive luau for $ 170+ per person on Monday nights. If you sit at a good table outside in the patio, you’ll be able to enjoy the entertainment.

I took my best gal here while she was visiting me over the 4th of July weekend. She wanted a spot to dine for lunch in Waikiki, that would look at the water, and be a nice dining experience. I picked Royal Hawaiian because of the history, location and I figured it would have some upscale dining options. So, the location was ooookkkaaaayyyyy. Our view was of a VERY crowded beach, and the people around us were great for people watching. We saw an elderly gentleman with a much younger lady pal getting very romantic. We saw everyone else on their ipads, iphones, electronic devices, typical Waikiki tourist. Our waiter was odd, but pleasant enough. The food: okay, so I looked over the overpriced menu, and decided on a lobster roll. Just FYI, I lived along the east coast for almost 10 years, so I KNOW a good lobster roll and this was just… crap. It also came fried, and when I asked if that could be changed, I was told no, that the lobster came PREBATTERED, and that was the only way to get it on my sandwich. Uh, never heard of it being served that way, but whatever. I wasn’t impressed. My friend had the Big Kahuna Salad and she said it was alright. Anyway, for 2 people to eat lunch it was $ 100, so that’s the kind of money you should expect to drop here. I can’t imagine dinner. There are no restrooms near by, you have to trek across the hotel. They do validate parking, but I could have probably had a cheaper, and better dining experience at Rum Fire.

Ate breakfast this AM. Waiter staff so laid back that the attention to detail is lacking. Son got French toast but no syrup for 20 minutes. WHY don’t know. Waiter no where to be found. I guess everyone is so laid back that you get what you get.

Since i was staying at the Royal Hawaiian I wanted to come down and check out the place. Venue — beautiful and right off the beach Staff — very friendly very aloha Bathroom — nice and kept clean Ordered the Loco Moco — its there dish for breakfast it was great. short ribs cooked perfect and the rice, egg and gravy was the right amount. Ordered the french toast. — portion was small 3 slices but it was just right amount since i got the loco moco but if i were to order it by itself it would have been too small and it was expensive. The prices are pretty high but you are paying for the view. It was worth it.

The restraurant is located in the royal hawaiian hotel. Menu is pricey. The poke trio didn’t have much flavor. Best thing was the burger and fries with guyere cheese. Great beach view and service.

We stayed at the Royal Hawaiian for a night, we got a coupon for buy one get one free at their breakfast buffet. They had everything from omelettes to miso soup and congee(rice porridge). The food was okay, nothing to write home about but the waitstaff was very nice and attentive.

Service was EXCELLENT. Very friendly, fun and yet extremely professional. We are locals who, from time to time(not all that often really) like to venture into«Waiks» and play the tourist role for a few hours. «Dorothy», our server was funny, engaging and genuine. Fun times, right on the shore of the world famous Waikiki beach! Cant’ beat the view of the beach, ocean and Diamond Head! Food was as expected from the Royal Hawaiian Hotel’s kitchens. French dip panini was great(something different), and the spare rib dish was great. While visiting, make sure to walk through the lobby areas, there are some cool historical displays(pics with descriptions). We’ll be back to visit Dorothy and the Surf Lanai!

We stayed at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel as part of Pleasant Holiday package and continental breakfast daily at the Surf Lanai Restaurant was part of the deal. If not for the daily coupons for continental breakfast, we probably would not have eaten there. It is pricey but the view of the beach is fantastic! One day we ordered the Kalua Pork Hash with two poached eggs which was $ 20 and included a large Guava juice. Pork was allttle on the dry side

Alright, so we tried again. It’s kind of hard to be adventurous when you have a 2 ½ year old and you’re pregnant and don’t feel like walking very far. I dreaded the type of service we would receive. Fortunately for us the servers were much nicer. They were more observant of our sons needs to say the least. We pretty much ate here everyday because I just loved the Moco Loco. I don’t get to eat something like that everyday at home. I had to eat it everyday. It was very good and quite a portion to hold you over all day almost. The kids menu is diverse enough. If you have a picky eater in sure you’ll find something. I had to share some rice from my plate a few times because he loves rice. But it was mostly waffles, pancakes and fresh fruit for him. If we come back to this hotel again we will probably make this our normal breakfast spot.

During our recent trip to Oahu, we stayed at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. Surf Lanai is their casual restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch. At night, Surf Lanai turns into Azure, their more upscale restaurant. We dined at Surf Lanai various times — mostly for breakfast but we dined for lunch as well. Their continental breakfast, although it seems small, is actually quite filling. You get your choice of Kona coffee or tea, a fresh fruit mix and three breakfast pastries. You also get juice and a shot of their smoothie of the day. If you have a free continental breakfast voucher, you can upgrade your to a full breakfast with an added entrée for $ 20. I’ve had the Egg White Omelette upgrade and it’s definitely a lot of food! Their lunch options, although a bit on the pricey side, are very filling. We all couldn’t even finish our orders.

When you think of high-end upscale brunches in Hawaii most locals think about places like the Halekulani, Sheraton Waikiki or The Kahala. But at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel they also have their own version in the the Surf Lanai located in the Azure Restaurant during the day. I’ve read some of the reviews for this place and don’t quite understand why they get mixed reviews. I went with a group of media-lites today to feature the eatery and not only did we receive fantastic service but the food was excellent. Perhaps it was because we were doing a food review that they catered to us so well, however they couldn’t do that for the buffet food right? The food had everything you could ask for in a complete buffet. Prime rib, suckling pig, a desert bar, sushi & sashimi bar, hot foods and breakfast items such as an omelet bar and Japanese breakfast. The food wasn’t your average«let’s get the leftovers from last night and make something» options either. Everything was made specifically to be served at the buffet. Let’s not forget the view of the beautiful stretch of Waikiki beach. White sands, blue water, just an eye candy delight while you partake in your breakfast/lunch. For locals, they also offer a 15% discount which means I’ll be back again with others. For special occasion or any occasion, make sure this is on your list of places to go when hitting up an elegant«brunch» meal.
