New Breeze Dog Salon

So grateful to have found this dog salon a couple years ago or so in an advertisement. Rie is such an awesome groomer and person! How do I know this? Because my dog, Murf, LOVES it here. As soon as we arrive, he already knows where he’s heading. He happily struts in and doesn’t look back. Murf has never looked so happy to go get groomed… ever! Usually he’s crying or clawing at me to stay with him.
This salon is located off of 12^th Ave and Waialae Ave. It’s a gated paid parking lot, but they give you some leeway for free parking. It’s enough time to park, drop off/​pick up your dog (s).
TIP: Appointments have been getting a little bit more difficult for Saturdays because they are that awesome! Please book in advance if you need to have a weekend (Saturday) appointment. I like to schedule my appointments far in advance now a days.

I trusted Rie with my English Springer Spaniel and she did a great job. My dog is usually very anxious when groomed but I felt she was very kind, patient and gentle with her. She followed up with me about a little bleeding that happened from a skin lesion and sent texts with photos. I really appreciated her giving me that information, as she did not have to do that. She also sent me a photo text when Summer was ready to be picked up and it was decorated with Halloween graphics — very cute!

New Breeze is the greatest grooming salon. It is a small retail operation on Waialae in Kaimuki, next to what uses to be Ka Lei Eggs. You can’t enter via Waialae, you have to enter through the back entrance from the parking lot behind.
We’ve been coming here for over 5 years. My dog loves and adores aunty Ria. So much that whenever we pick him up, there he is just curled up on the floor next to her as she works. He is so well-​behaved with her that he doesn’t need to stay in a kennel. Amazing! She has the Magical touch… err, cut. She does fantastic work and competitive prices. And the best part… she really loves what she does and cares for the animals… I’ve taken my baby boy to other groomers, where he has come home anxious and almost terrified. Here, he feels like home, and that to me is priceless.
Here’s the breakdown —
PROS:
Private parking lot, with grace period of 15 minutes = free parking for drop offs and pick ups.
Quality groomer whom genuinely cares offering competitive pricing.
A cute picture of your pup is texted to you upon completion of grooming.
CONS:
Ria has gotten busier because she is as good as it gets. So, NOT A BAD CON TO HAVE… just need to book your appointment further in advance than usual.
Bottom line: We love and adore Ria! And her sweet daughter, whom is often there playing with our boy until we are able to pick him up.

My dog hated groomers before but loves new breeze. They always accommodate me whenever we need a groomer in a pinch. The owner is so nice and is very good at cutting my cocker spaniels hair. I always get a summer cut for him and he leaves there looking fresh and clean. Awesome job always!

We like to save money and clip our dogs’ nails at home but it is a lengthy and rather stressful process for all involved! We decided to try to get them done and called New Breeze. Luckily, they had an opening and told us to come right in. (It is recommended to make an appointment– especially for grooming!)
New Breeze is right off Waialae and your best bet is to park in the ticket lot behind First Hawaiian Bank or the metered lot across the street. It is a tiny little place but full of love. Rie is very sweet and so is her daughter. They were both SO excited to see our Italian Greyhounds as they used to have one of their own.
Their caring and patient attitude was perfect for my dogs and Rie crooned at them, let them lick her and talked with them while she was clipping their nails. For ten dollars, it was quick and easy… I will definitely be back :)

My little Yeti and I love coming to New Breeze for his grooming. It’s a cute little Doggie Grooming spot in the heart of Kaimuki and so close to my house. Rie-​san and staff do an exceptional job and Yeti always get the haircut that is right for him. In the summer, he likes to keep it much shorter with his summer cut. We both have a happy experience there each month when we go. Thank you New Breeze!

Very happy with New Breeze. They do EXACTLY as you tell them. Toby our 17 month old Pom/​Shi tzu/​Yorkie was in excellent hands. He seemed happy and content when we picked him up. Staff is awesome! Just very nice people who geniuly care. Been twice and we will be back.
WARNING — parking can get brutal on weekends and at lunchtime any day of the week. Located facing the Kaimuki «Restaurant Row» parking lot by Big City Diner. Suggest you have someone drive you or schedule before 11 AM and after 2 PM. There is a grace period (15 minutes?) if you just want to drop off your dog and come back.

wow. we brought our 10 month old shih tzu-.maltese to new breeze recently. rie and her assistant do such an incredible job. this was our lucy’s third cut since birth and first with rie.
attention to detail. nails were not cut… they were manicured! evenly cut and filed down perfectly. the haircut was precise, no rough edges, even her paws looked like those on a stuffed baby lamb.
we won’t be looking any further for a dog salon.

I LOVE New Breeze Dog Salon!
I was very hesitant to take my little Bichon Frise anywhere. They are a very high maintenance breed, which requires a lot of personal time and care. I was recommended by my dog’s original owner to go to New Breeze, and fell in love after the first visit (we’ve gone for numerous visits already).
I am so grateful for New Breeze. Rie is so sweet and so is her daughter, who is often at the shop on Saturdays when I go in. You can see how much they love animals.
My little bichon has grown to love Rie and her staff for the care they provide to him. I appreciate that they take so good care of him, that’s all I really ever wanted. When I get him back he is happy, clean, and beautifully cut.
There have even been times where my bichon was car sick and they would take all his messy toys/​blanket and have it washed for me, no extra charge. How wonderful is that.
They are worth every penny (It’s not expensive for the level of care and service they provide). I live on the other side of the island, but will drive to Kaimuki for them.

I’m happy with the one and only service I purchased there. My min pin/​Chihuahua needed her nails trimmed. They were very long and she’s so afraid to have them done.
The people there were patient and sweet. They also filed them down so that her nails didn’t scratch me afterward.
I didn’t have to wait at all but the lady did suggest that the next time, I may want to call ahead (just to ensure they have an opening). Parking is kind of weird because you have to pay at the booth before you exit. I believe it was one dollar with validation.

I met Rie on the streets of Kaimuki. Her extremely young daughter noticed my dog and so cutely said, «Did you know my mom is a groomer?» I was sold. I had been in my mind asking to find the right groomer.
I have been to 3 other dog salons now, this is my fourth. I have a shih tzu. I previously enjoyed seeing Beauty Salon for Doggies but now it is out my area that I am willing to travel.
Rie is an excellent groomer. She is native Japanese but speaks EXCELLENT English so I can communicate with her well, unlike other groomers who have no idea what I am saying.
Salon is located in Kaimuki just blocks from my house and it is not difficult to get in. The quality of the grooming is top notch and she always delivers exactly as I ask.
With other dog salons (of which I will also post about) the person grooming my dog would change and it would freak out my dog, so Rie is consistent and reliable.
Reasonably priced, excellent work.

Just moved to Honolulu and needed a dog groomer for my Maltese, so happy to have found one. Great haircut and its growing in beautifully. Clean facility and really nice groomer.

My dog Sophie is 75% maltese and 25% Lhasa. She is 4 years old but has never been to the groomers… until a couple of weeks ago. I finally realized that I couldn’t groom her myself and that she was probably uncomfortable with all her matted fur and long nails. After what happened to the poor dog at one of the larger chain pet stores, I kept putting off taking her anywhere because I was afraid she may get one of her ears cut off. On the recommendation of my friend Joey, I took her to Rie at New Breeze. I took her a week before her appt to see how she reacted to the groomer, Rie. She was shaking a little but after talking to Rie for a bit, I knew she would be the best person for Sophie to see especially for her first time. I think I was more nervous than Sophie when I dropped her off, but Rie was very comforting as she talked to Sophie and told me that she would make her feel comfortable. I asked Rie to keep her hair on the longer side and she said she would try but since it was her first time, that she may need to almost shave her. When I picked her up I was so happy to see that she had kept her hair on the longer side but that she looked like a girl doggie and not a tom boy anymore! :) She was so clean and her paws were the cutest fluffy legs I’ve ever seen! We call them boots with the fur! Rie was the sweetest person and I could tell that even after 2 hours of grooming, Sophie loved her because when I picked her up she wasn’t shaking! Rie said that the first time would take a little more time because she likes to give the dog a break in between which I felt really meant that she care about the dogs instead of trying to rush through a bunch of dogs just to make more money. It’s almost a month now and I’ll be calling for another appointment! :)

Stumbled upon New Breeze when I was in Kaimuki a couple months ago. I walked in to get a price list & Rie was welcoming and friendly. I remembered her when my Maltese needed a haircut, and I’m glad I’ve finally found someone that I trust to take care of my dog. I will never take my dog elsewhere.
The last time I took my dog to another groomer, that groomer put my dog on the grooming table w/​out putting the leash on her and then turned away. My dog jumped off the grooming table twice because the groomer was careless. I had to ask her to put the leash on my dog.
Rie is attentive, professional and caring. You just know that she loves dogs. When Rie is grooming a dog for the first time, she doesn’t have another dog in the salon because that might cause anxiety for the new dog.
My dog was rescued from the Waimanalo puppy mill last year and still has a lot of anxiety. She normally doesn’t feel comfortable with new people. By the time she was ready to be picked up after the grooming, she loved Rie.
Conveniently located in Kaimuki (near First Hawaiian Bank), there is a 20-​minute grace period in the lot behind the salon. Entrance is on the parking lot side.
Both thumbs up. Way up.

You know a great groomer when they love dogs as much as you do. My palm is very furry, and in spite of that, the quickly wanted and cut him. They were even able to cut the knots from his ears. He is so soft now!

Finally, a groomer who can cut a Bichon to LOOK like a Bichon! After two years of looking for a suitable groomer, I found New Breeze. Rie did a great cut on my Bichon. No more Poodle-​face for her. I will be sending my dog to New Breeze from now on. I highly recommend this groomer!

Clean and well kept groomer. Owner was friendly and took great care of our frenchie. I recommend this place to everyone.
