My friend recently asked me to hang out at Top of the Hill and I realized how long it has been since I’ve been there. This will always be my go to hole in the wall bar. I often have trouble convincing people to come as this is not like many of the current up & coming gastro-pub style bars out there but once I get them in, they always want to come back. We went on a Thursday evening and it was way slower than expected. I was surprised to see how different it was. The whole place looked cleaned up inside; the pool tables were more spread out and there was still a corner area for darts. The bathrooms were cleaner and much more stocked which was a major plus for me. I went to the bar where my friends awaited me and was glad to find the bar itself had not changed much — still super reasonable prices for beers & a good variety of liquor for mixed drinks. The food menu varied slightly from what I remember but was still your typical bar food: fries, wings, steak, edamame, etc. The owner is this super sweet lady and if you come at the right time, with just a little aloha, she tends to give you some pupus on the house that she is preparing right in front of you. This time after a few rounds she graced us with some spicy pickled cucumbers. So good. I liked that she added jalapeños. I wound up ordering some fries because she fries them until they have a perfect crisp outside and soft center. I also liked that they added a radio dj machine [you can walk up or download the app and control it from your phone], where you’re able to pick songs for a minor charge. We had fun guessing who in what bar picked each song! In the end I left with an under $ 20 bill, a solid happy vibe and a decently full belly. We actually would have stayed longer if it weren’t a work night.

It’s a nice, local joint. The food is awesome, and yes the fries are a staple. The chicken wings are also good. However, they are a bit pricey. There is a music player as well for you music lovers. However, it’s a bit loud for a small place. Overall, with the three pool tables, dart boards, food, a moderate selection of beer, excellent customer service it’s a pretty sweet place to hang out and have a good time.

If you can’t hold your breath, don’t go to this dive bar. It’s beyond normal depths. It’s convenient for those who love in. The area, and they have a cool and updated juke box. Other than that, this place is really worn down and the owners don’t seem to give a poop about making it any nicer. The restrooms are pretty worn down, all the seating is worn down, and the bartenders aren’t the greatest. The drinks aren’t the cheapest, the atmosphere not the most comfortable. This place also draws really random people in. You have the young, cool crowd then the creepers and then the old folks who are usually a part of the creeper folk. So meh and so spiritless. It’s really just a dirty bar at this point. Sad really because it a a prime location and has potential.

pretty much what you would expect from a dive; cheap food and drinks if they aren’t out. Nothing fancy, just a fun place to place pool and drink a few

Great bar that’s really casual and close by. They have pool and darts, plus an area to just hang out and lounge in if you don’t want to play. Drinks are relatively good price. Specialty drinks are not fabulous here, though, so plan on keeping it simple.

I’m not a fan. The service is just«okay» and the place is just really dirty. They weren’t serving food when I was there on a weeknight but for the size of this bar; I’d have expected them to. I really had a problem with the bathroom. First of all, it’s so close to the pool table that to enter the doorway, you have to excuse yourself and even move pool sticks in order to get in. Then, the privacy door doesn’t have a working lock… REALLY? A women’s bathroom in a bar that doesn’t lock? Uh, scary. It appears that what little soap they had in the pump had been watered down several times so really, there was no soap. I don’t like that place at all…

AHHHHHHHH! JUSTTRY! ! ! ! ! The location is damn near perfect for my house and not a soul in this place gives a rat’s a**! It’s dirty, the floor is sticky and the bathroom has bugs! They’re always out of mixers and even then it wouldn’t matter because some of the bartenders don’t know how to mix drinks! If you order food here you’re so insane I can’t even help you! GIVEMETHISBAR! At the very least let me clean it! Put up some art, and give it the love it deserves. Kaimuki is primed to be the next best thing on Oahu and this bar could be a cornerstone of that kind of movement! COMEON! TOPOFTHEHILL… TRY! And if you can’t try… LETMETRY!

Yeah this place is a bit ‘ghetto’ and ‘shady’ as other people have described. The crowd is definitely an older crowd too– compared to me. Nah but, I had a rum and coke and it was so strong! That had me going while I played darts for most of the night. We went on a Saturday and it wasnt that crowded at all. People were singing karaōke! Honestly everyone looked like they were having a good time. And dancing the electric slide haha. They only had one dart board working but they have a couple pool tables too!

I am so surprised that I have no written any review! Well I love this awesome divebar and we always have friends to meet up with nearby. Our home is right uphill. This is very local and have 3 pool tables. They have awesome french fries and we never leave that place with them! One of the bartender there is super sweet and knows ASL(American Sign Language) and it was awesome that I didn’t have to depends on my friends or write on a napkins to order any drinks. Thank you!!! :)

Sure it’s a dive bar, but the staff is friendly and nice. They have a decent selection of beers for such a place, and you can play pool or darts. It is usually not too crowded and local neighborhood places like this keep getting harder to find. We always have fun.

Top of the Hill is a dive bar, accept that going in and you might have a good time. It’s usually either completely dead, or overly crowded with a pool billiards league. When it’s uncrowded, it’s relatively easy to get a pitcher of your typical domestic drafts(bud, miller, w/e), but nothing else really. Don’t order any food. After a blood-spurting chicken wing incident, I’ve sworn off their kitchen. The bar is family owned and the staff are good people. If all you want is a beer and a stool, this place is ok, but there are better places around.

It wasn’t the greatest of bars I’ve been to, but since I live in kaimuki I thought it was time to check one of the very few bars/places to drink around the area. Walked in and wasn’t too impressed, bar stools were out dated and I was really scared of falling off of the squeaky stool. I’m sure it wouldve been much more exciting had I came in at a later time. Overall, not a bad place. Just needs a little elbow grease.

Best french fries in Honolulu? I think maybe a contender. I don’t know who’s cooking those fries, but every time they are cooked to perfection, never too soggy or crispy. Sorry are we talking about a bar or a restaurant? My apologies, but seriously get the fries. Okay enough about the fries, I don’t even eat french fries. This place did catch me off guard. From the outside didn’t look like much, I was actually skeptical for a long time, before I finally went in and glad I did. Bartenders are all super nice and easy going. Only place in Hawaii, I’ve found that will serve me a flaming Dr. Pepper, one star just for that. Usually pretty mellow place to hang out. Sometimes it is busy, just depends on when you go. They have 3 pool tables, darts, and a jukebox, so if not too busy you can have some fun. I think great place to meet and hang out with some friends without having to dress up(not that there’s many places in Hawaii where this is a problem, just trying to say super casual) also reasonable prices. Check out when you have a chance. You’d be surprised.

Having seen this place for years(decade?) while working in Kaimuki, I never really thought to stop by until we recently moved into the neighborhood. After a long day of renovation work on the house I thought this would be a nice happy hour stop around 4pm. The place was empty save for three other people and the owner. She was extremely sweet, attentive and made me feel very welcome even though it was my first time there. They have very cheap drink specials, love me some Bud Light Platinum(when I’m not drinking wine… or rum…) and the deals were great. I didn’t get a chance to try the food yet or watch any of the pool hustlers in action but I will definitely be back to see the taste and observe what makes this place tick. Very excited to have some fun options with caring owners, loving Kaimuki!

Top of the Hill is a really casual bar that is just down the street from me. There is a nice mix of young and older crowd. I like how they have three pool tables and a couple of dart boards, makes the place seem lively. Their prices are decent and they have good food served late which I feel is necessary for any bar. Top of the Hill is a great place to start off the night, puts you in a good mood for the rest of the evening :)

It had been years since my days at the«old» Top of the Hill so a good friend of mine dragged me out for some $ 522oz Bud Lights to relive the old days… but this place sure did improve the interior! There is a great long counter seating area, booths that separate the dart and billiards area then there is a nice corner near the entrance for those who want a little privacy. Our server was hapa China that was friendly to the end… service was quick and beers were super reasonable. I really liked the clientele mix. Most of the spots I visit are nearly all locals but this spot had a nice mix of locals, hapa’s and haoles. Theres a touch screen juke box near the pool tables. Overall a very comfortable cozy spot to hang out with some friends. I’ll be back~ Oh, they give free popcorn :)

I’ve always thought of this place as shifty and just downright shady. I never did come here, since of the above stated reasons. Only reason why I came here, was to prove myself that it wasn’t so bad. The location is on Waialae Avenue, in between Kim Chee II and the First Hawaiian Bank, among other restaurant establishments over there. Just once, I told myself, I would just check it out and stay there for longer than 20 minutes. At first sight, it was just weird stepping in there. It smelled like cigarrette smoke in there and I could really notice it. Maybe I just had a sensitive nose, but dude, wow. I managed to take a quick look around and not buy anything. I guess I chickened out with this one. While there are good alcohol options and good entertainment value to this establishment, it did not suit my needs. There is dart boards, billards, and just a nostagila to this place that I did not see after all these years. This place has been here since as long as I can remember and its still there! I’m sure I could give this place a second chance, but I’m not going to. D+

Not a bad spot to go to in Kaimuki. There is pool & darts. Drink specials are ok depending on the night. Went on an average thursday night. Bartenders are cool. Good vibe considering I haven’t been there since college.
