Nancy O’Connor & Herve are two of the sleaziest, crooked, most dishonest people that I know. My family owns and operates an Interior Design firm, and through our recent experience of working with Nancy and Herve have discovered that these two individuals do not have an ethical bone in their body. STAY CLEAR of these two.

What a find. Could spend hours there looking at fascinating artifactual pieces. Helpful staff. Spindle legs, old doors, knobs galore & tons more. All in a beautiful Victorian home.

I had an old unique round nest of tables which had belonged to my Granny. The large table had a broken section and was up the loft. We used the others but they were tired looking and we often wondered if they could be refurbished. We contacted Paul who came and collected them. When he brought them back they were completely transformed. They looked amazing. The broken table was repaired and like new. They now take pride of place in the living room. Thank you Paul I love these tables. Amazing job at a reasonable price.

I can never go in this place without spending $$. I love everything about this store. Most of my garden décor is from here. and their prices are reasonable. 5 stars for me!

This place is incredible! I usually just go in and walk around but this time I decided to ask for help, and the guy started pulling some really beautiful pieces from behind the counter that I probably wouldn’t have found on my own. I left with some great brass door handles for my sliding doors. I’ll definitely be back.

This place is a cool little adventure tucked into an unlikely place. I never really paid much attention to the house on the corner with a lot of stuff around it every time I drove past it until my friend and I went to look for some antique or distressed furniture that she could turn into a Pinterest project.
The second you walk in through the gate you feel like you’re in some sort of secret magical garden full of statues and old bathtubs with cool feet and birdhouses. I don’t know anything about anything that they sell there, but I wanted to spend hours looking at everything there. Inside the store are rooms and rooms and rooms of cool odds and ends: old keys, doors, comic books, postcards, stained glass, knobs, furniture, trinkets, old cans, and the list could go on forever. My friend bought an old shutter to use as a divider in her kitchen, and her mom bought some metal baskets and décor for the walls. I bought some old rusty keys.
The house/​store is very hot upstairs, but I’ve only been in the summer and it’s hot everywhere. It does smell like musty old stuff, and after awhile it really got to me and I went back outside. The main thing that detracted from my enjoyment if my shopping adventure was the fact that arbitrary things have price tags, but most don’t if you’re serious about buying something or finding something, you almost need to have someone who works there to go along with you. We had several instances of going back and forth to find someone to ask what the prices were, and it was just a nuisance. Also the metered street parking when there is a huge HCC lot next to it that you can’t use but is empty on the weekends! :(
Overall, I thought it was a pretty neat place. I’d go back if I had a reason to!

What a great little place stopped on here on a lunch break to find some vintage drawer pulls. I was very impressed with the selection and organization. The staff were friendly and even recommended other places in town to check out because they didn’t have the length I wanted. The prices vary so almost anyone can find/​buy something. The most difficult thing was the parking which may not be an issue on the weekend since the lot closest to the store is owned by hcc.

What a cool place! It’s a fun adventure to explore this rambling old building and its associated collection of art/​junk/​salvage.
From a wrought iron drawer pull in the shape of a dove to a twenty foot iron gazebo that looks like it came from Victorian England, you never know what you might find, but it is always fun to look.

I cant imagine what happened with Wrangler, I have been doing business and sending my design clients to Adkins Antiques for over 15 years and have never experienced anything but great and helpful service. I have made special orders for clients thru the owner for cast iron items and the prices of their lawn furniture can not e beat in another store or online.

NEVER go here. Owner does not have a clue about customer service!!! This weekend Sunday, Feb. 9^th, 2014. Was going to purchase a piece of wood trim and a small electrical item. Didn’t make purchase OWNER was so rude he just grabbed the wood trim and almost broke it b/​c it did not have a price. The ele item was tossed across the counter to sales person. I was shocked at the lack of understanding that i was going to purchase these items. I walked out!!! The owner is a dumb ass who should not be at the counter but in back where he is NOT seen by customers. Some items are questionable Antiques most are reproductions or have been left out in elements to make them seem antique. LOSERS… this is a rip off place with a rip off owner… who is rude and extremely unprofessional. Buyers beware. don’t leave your $$$ at this place there are better places around Houston!!!

If you need anything to add rustic charm to your office or domicile, they have got something for you at Adkins! From a wide selection of statues, fountains, bathtubs and sturdy patio furniture to all manner of doors, windows & shingles, to several floors of all kinds of curios one more often associates with barns (than downtown Houston) I was impressed by the antiques on hand at this establishment.
This place firmly demonstrates the apt adage that «one man’s trash is another man’s treasure».

For an old geezer like me, I won’t lie, this place brings back some memories. Just seeing some of the styles of craft they have here is very nostalgic, and I always find something with my wife for our house. Well, she usually finds something for the house, while I peruse the useless crap section. Never the less the memories are always worth the visit and I love the touches this place contributes to my home.

What a fun place this is! I went there looking for antique knobs and there was a wide selection. If you like rummaging thru drawers, this is the place for you. There is a lot of ironwork also and garden décor. I am going back! Staff is helpful and polite. Prices are reasonable.

I really feel like I could spend a fortune in here. It really brings out the inner designer in me, however deep down she is. I love the idea of the history of each piece. Even if you don’t think you have a need for old stuff, you should still stop by this place to check it out.

I love old houses. I rue these new houses that lack all of the little details that have gone the way of generic, cheap, mass produced, and «Little Boxes.»
Casement windows, weight and pulley windows, detailed hinges, glass door knobs, leaded stained-​glass windows, two-​way swinging kitchen doors, hexagonal tiles, transom windows, sinks that have separate faucets for hot and cold water…
Adkins has them all and more in every variety. This is the first place to stop if you live in an old house and the x in your house breaks. You will most likely find it’s exact twin here. If not it’s twin, then it’s first cousin once removed.
Adkins itself is an old house. The garden and side yard are full of older garden furniture, decorations, and equipment. The garage is stacked full of old windows, doors (including french and screen), and tiles. The tile selection is beautiful and quite extensive.
The first floor is full of stained-​glass windows, hinges, hooks, casters, door knobs, drawer pulls, little metal things that you would only know what they were if you desperately needed them (ie thingamajigs)…the list goes on, but you get the idea.
My absolute favorite things about this store are the staircases and the attic.
The first flight of the «main» stairs is ornately carved. Very showy. As this staircase goes up, it becomes simple. I think this «don’t mind the man behind the curtain» and cost-​cutting aspect of older Victorian houses is humorous. Why waste the money on a place the guests aren’t going to see?
The attic frightens me a little. There is a weird caged room in one corner that has weird dark corners. The rest is all of the interesting junk you’d expect to find in an attic. Lampshades, electric pole insulators, percolators, picture frames. I’m certain there is also a ghost up here as well as the Goonie’s treasure map, but luckily and unfortunately I haven’t seen either.

I love this place. It is so refreshing to find something different in the home and garden décor theme. You never know what you will find and sometimes you won’t know what you have found, but that is part of the experience.

Unbelievable place.
I had been searching around town for old one-​pane windows to use as photo frames (a la my old roommate’s brilliant idea). For the life of me, I could not find anything other than stained glass anywhere.
Finally an owner of one of the antique stores we rolled into said «I know exactly what you are looking for, and without a doubt, you will find it at Adkins.» Well, the guy was spot on. I found absolutely what I was looking for.
The store is split into two parts, the beautiful house, and a little warehouse around the back. In the house, each room is filled with a certain genre of antique and vintage goods. You can peruse the stained glass room (at that point I had enough of stained glass), the plumbing fixtures, the hardware (including some really intricate door hinges)… the list goes on.
In the warehouse they had rows of old doors, and then voila, the windows I had been looking for. They had rows and rows of different styles and sizes. I picked all of my favorites, and only then did I actually ask the price before I narrowed down my selection. I was fully expecting to pay $ 30 – 40 per window depending on the size. I am not sure why I had this price in my head, but imagine my surprise when the guy tells me that they are $ 10 each! Since I was willing to pay $ 30 – 40 total, I decided to not be picky and just buy all 5 of them…
I cannot wait for an excuse to go back here, so I guess I am just waiting for either some other crazy project idea, or one of my friends to buy a house so I can help deck it out.

Back in 2002, I was visiting Houston and on a hunt for a red door knob. My boyfriend at the time surprised me by using this cute little thing into a handmade dresser that I just fell in love with.
Flash forward to today when I somehow end up at their steps again. Once we walked up, I got really excited remembering all the fun little knickknacks that were to be waiting for me inside.
When you step in, you’ll immediately be greeted by one of the dogs. They are incredibly friendly and well trained. For those of you with concerns, don’t worry – no drooling or jumping for these pups!
My favorite part of this store is the huge collection of door hinges, door knobs, knockers, and door bells. As soon as I buy a house, I’m changing up all these little features to add that special something.
For this trip, we were specifically looking for a type of window pane that we couldn’t find in the Montrose antique area. Though we found a great collection of stained glass, it wasn’t quite what we were looking for and after a few minutes describing what we wanted to the manager, he directed us to the back room. It was a warehouse type setup with exactly what we were looking for! Within minutes we were picking out panes and panes of windows that would be perfect for the project. The best part – they were $ 10 apiece.
While my friend was taking care of business, I meandered up to the two other floors remembering from my previous visit that there was plenty to see up there as well. I found antique glass (though no depression ware), tea kettles, books, records, motors, and who knows what else. Sure, the third floor is stifling hot, but it is an old attic so what do you expect?
There is so much stuff to go through and it will definitely be one of my frequent stops while looking for fun decorative items. They even have a huge outdoor area with fountains, tables and chairs, garden statues (including flying pigs!), abstract art, and so much more.
Don’t let the gruff German (?) accent throw you off – the manager (owner?) is friendly and incredibly helpful. Plus, the prices are so much more reasonable than what you’ll find in the Montrose area! Helpful tip: you can also park in the Planned Parenthood parking lot if you don’t want to park on the streets.
