My Flaming Heart

This store is obviously the artistic vision of a very creative individual. Every nook is filled with super cool things to look at and the way items are displayed made me realize that I lack any real creative vision of my own (lol). VERY friendly employees, unique finds, and great prices will keep me coming back for more…

I was visiting from Chicago and a friend suggested I stop in. I was in love in the minute I walked in the door!
I am always on the search for distinctive, creative and interesting jewelry and clothing. And My Flaming Heart is filled with all of that!
In addition to the fantastic jewelry the shop also sells beads and components to make your own one of a kind pieces.
I am ashamed to admit how long I stayed in the shop and I wouldn’t have left when I did but they were closing for the day.
Then I discovered the dresses. Judy makes the most adorable rockabilly dresses with the most interesting fabrics — some she designs herself! Oh and she has great Western wear inspired shirts as well.
I found a dress in a fabric I loved but alas it wasn’t in my size. Judy came to the shop to personally fit me for my dress. The final product is adorable and people complimented me everywhere I wore it! I can’t wait to order another dress!
The customer service and friendliness of the owner and staff is the cherry on top!
I only wish I lived closer to visit all the time!

This place is so unique and cool and has an amazing weird and beautiful jewelry and knicks knacks. Everything is pretty expensive though so I only allowed myself to buy a few items. Salespeople were pretty friendly.

Be still, my flaming heart! I love finding stores that are out of the ordinary and unique. My Flaming Heart definitely fits the bill. There are vintage beads, jewelry, gifts, dresses, art, and much more. The jewelry is handmade and some are from vintage/​flea market finds. The dresses are very cute and can be custom fit for you, which I think is very impressive. Everywhere you look, there is something interesting to pick up, touch, try on, or look at. There are vintage cowboy boots, and even cute items for kids and babies.
The lady behind the counter was very nice and helped my friend with her bead selections. We were told that the owner picks up vintage items and other things for the store when she travels, so each item in the store is unique. Since we checked in through Unilocal,we got a $ 5 coupon and she ended up getting some very cool beads (for a necklace) for under $ 3 bucks. Score!
Great place to find gifts if you have a friend who is into old antiques and vintage finds. I’ll be back– and recommending this place to my friends.

Love this place! Tons of unique, handmade jewelry and beads and charms to make your own! The rockabilly dresses are amazing as well and she makes them custom! Sugar skulls everywhere! I will definitely be back for one of those custom dresses!

My favorite jewelry shop in Houston. I am a jewelry freak (especially rings) and I always find beautiful pieces here. I never walk out of here empty handed. The location is convenient and have other cool businesses around. I love everyone that works there as well. You walk in and it’s very welcoming feeling and these weird stuffed cat and other animals looking at you (lol). They carry jewelry done by local artists. Their selection of cowboy boots is very awesome. They also have pearl snap shirts for adults and kids but the kids’ shirts are so adorable! I can never gave enough time to look around and there are so many little cute beads and vintage porcelain figures everywhere. I just adore this place.
Things I purchased from here so far are: pony hair cowboy boots, Ganesha ring, Zuni tribe sun ring, sterling silver turquoise ring, elephant ring with its trunk that wraps around my finger, mushrooms and mice porcelain salt and pepper shakers, moon and star ring, little mushroom patch, Davey Crockett iron on patch from the 50s (how badass is that?)… I feel like I’ve forgotten some but everything is super reasonably priced, y’all should check this place out when you’re in the area!

I wish I knew this store was here before. I love vintage turquoise jewels. A ton of unique pieces for a reasonable prices. Love the cat window display since ‘Merica is going thru a cat mega overload! Great bead selections. Super sweet gal working there. Ironing away at some patch work. I’ll be back for more jewelery!

This place is amazing! We found a bunch of nice antique objects. Will definitely go back. The workers there are nice and very helpful. And mention you heard of them on Unilocal.They like that.

Expensive is probably the word I would use to describe many of the items in the store. We were looking for used cowboy boots, and the place we wanted to go to was closed already so I looked on Unilocal and saw this place had some. However, for $ 150 plus I could get new boots, and have. However, I love all the local art. Lots of skulls and Día de Muertos items. I would definitely come back and get some of the loose beads they sell. They are reasonably priced, and would allow me to create some really cute pieces.

I’ve been drooling over the amazing dresses and western shirts and wishing they came in my size. Then Unilocal reviewers tell me the dressmaker does *custom* work?! Holy moley, hold on to my wallet!!!
The rest of the store is on the line between OK and Fan for me, but those dresses! You MUST go see those dresses!

HOLY MOLY! Felt like I entered another shopping dimension ! A world of colors and combinations of objects de art to please any world travelor of space and time. Channel Elvis as a rockabilly Keith Richards steampunking your way to nirvana and land at Judy’s doorstep for a laughing rip roaring great adventure. The clothing, jewelry and exotique are exquisite. After you have explored the down and dirty New York and New Orleans artiste ateliers (with a quick roadie to Austin) come to Houston and check out all the little shops on this block you won’t be disappointed !

I love this place, and I love her dresses! She does custom work too. I bought all of my lady friends Christmas gifts from there. She keeps a very unique inventory. For all of you vintage and rockabilly junkies, it’s a must-​see!

Such a great store! Found it the same day I moved to Houston. So many great boots, unique jewelry and awesome clothes. The ladies that work there are awesome! Definitely worth a visit.

While eating at Natachees or Tacos A Go-​Go, I love to visit My Flaming Heart and browse their amazing custom clothing and fun accessories and décor items! It’s such a treat. Sadly, I haven’t bought anything yet. The items seem a tad pricey so I’m waiting for the one perfect item to really grab me. One of these days…

I’m a recent fan of the METRO Rail, and my preferred starting station is the one right near here (Ensemble/​HCC). Today, I decided to check out the nearby shops and walked into My Flaming Heart with a couple of friends.
Pretty much everything in the shop is just as neat as it gets. Lots of great, stylish used cowboy boots, CUSTOM-​MADE AMAZING DRESSES (sugarskulls FTW, I say, in agreement with previous reviews!), jewelry made on-​site, old monogrammed belts, aprons, shirts, onesies, beads galore, old purses restyled to look neat, etc. etc. etc.
As my friend put it, «a really cool Texas-​themed store, which sounds like an oxymoron.»
I’m a big fan of things that celebrate their geography, and this store was a big win for me. Today, I left carrying only a couple sugarskull beads, as I am currently unemployed. But I look forward to coming back and having a fabulous dress made!
Oh, and how could I forget? The women who run the store and make the jewelry and clothing are fabulous, funny, and extremely friendly. We made lots of small talk with them while we browsed, and they loved discussing the different things that we were checking out and telling us how they came upon them. =)

THERE IS A STORE IN HOUSTON THAT SELLS MADE TO ORDER ROCKABILLY DRESSES. CUSTOM MADE. WITH SUGAR SKULL PRINTS. WELL, ON SOME OF THEM.
Did you know about this? I sure didn’t. How did I not know about this?!
It was pure serendipity that led me into My Flaming Heart before a dinner with a friend at Natachee’s around 7. Normally the shop closes at 6pm, but with a few artists installing work on the back wall, I barged in and started poking around. It wasn’t until later that I realized they might not even have *technically* been open. Oh well.
Once I was inside my eyes widened to the size of saucers. These dresses! These aprons! Those frigging SWEET antique highball glasses! And oh my god, the tiny onesies with the loteria cards appliqued on them!!! Just as I was cursing not being a standard size (I’m on the way, promise!) Judy piped in and said «You know I can make any of those dresses to order, right?»
You could’ve knocked me over with a feather. This is dangerous – very dangerous.
My Flaming Heart isn’t just for the ladies, though. Judy makes a variety of duds for dudes, including retro bowling shirts that use the same fun fabric that’s found in the dresses. And yes, they can be custom made as well. You’ll be the coolest daddy-​o on the block if you pick up one of these swingin’ shirts.
I couldn’t walk out emptyhanded (especially since I felt like a dullard for walking in after hours), so I bought a necklace with a white rose and tin-​punched six shooter pendant combo as well as a tank with appliqued sugar skull on it. Judy was a doll and even gave me a 20% off coupon for my next visit, along with some goodies for other Mid Main businesses, like the awesome Sig’s Lagoon magnet that’s currently residing on my fridge.
And now – how to phrase this without sounding like a Houston hater, which I most assuredly am not. I feel like My Flaming Heart is almost a bit too cool for this city. HTX has a tendency to be so spread out it doesn’t properly support its local businesses. I’ve never stumbled across a shop remotely like this in any of my travels across the United States and abroad. Places like My Flaming Heart NEED to stay open because they’re so dang unique.
So Houston, step up. Keep this place in business. For me. For you. For your city. Do your civic duty and look badass at the same time. Now I’m off to save up all of my pennies, nickels and dimes until I can own one of Judy’s awesome creations.

The Flaming Heart is a cool new store with custom men’s shirts and women’s dresses with a western flair. In fact the entire store is western antique themed with some of the coolest stuff you can find anywhere.
The western themed antiques are amazing. Perfect for the eclectic collector of western antiques and kitsch. I also really like the aesthetics of her store. Very smartly decorated and comfortable to shop in. The owner Judy, is really displaying her passion in this store.
BEST YET: I officially have a seamstress here in Houston who can whip me up the coolest shirts! She makes many of the shirts and dresses in the store and can even custom make her clothes specifically to your measurements.
Her unique designs and fabrics are so cool. Sugar scull dresses and Tiki god western shirts are amongst the highlights — freaking sweet. The clothes are adventurous and fun with a vintage flair. There’s a large collection of western boots and a sundry of other items that will delight.
You’re going to love it Cowboy!
