Great haircut with Robin. She did what she felt would be best for me and my hair texture. And the results were fantastic ! Everyone’s wanted to know where I went for the haircut!

I’d gone to this guy for a cut and color about six months before my wedding to make sure he was good. But when I went back a few days before for a freshen up on everything he RUINED my hair. Wrong color, so he stripped it and colored again. Nightmare. So the next day I called Kat. She absolutely saved the day. Knew exactly what to do to get back to what I wanted, and on the day I got great compliments on the color. Once the damage from the stripping grows out I will definitely go back to Kat’s!

I’m by no reason a hair expert but… this is a fabulous salon that tried really hard to get the hair color I wanted despite me not describing everything well! Or understanding how long it would take. I had an appointment scheduled for 10am, and what I asked for online certainly would have been done by 12pm (when she had another client). Naturally, (me being fairly ignorant of all this) it took much longer. But she spent the extra time to make sure that I had a good color and cut by the end of it! My hair was supposed to be a darker silver, but in the end I kind of prefer it lighter. Super affordable ($ 210 for my color and haircut) and I couldn’t be happier. Thanks guys! I’ll be back, and next time I’ll know what I’m asking for (hopefully)!
And before I forget, she also informed me that if I didn’t care for the lighter white/​silver color than she would be fine with coloring it darker for me on a different day. This extra made me smile.

Great service, reasonable prices! My daughter came here to get her butchered bangs fixed and she’s been coming here ever since. Robin is awesome! Overall, this place is great.

I took a wild stab at having Robin do my hair earlier this week and she gave me an incredible cut. She really understands short hair!

This salon is such a hidden treasure! I had a vintage style wedding and had my hair done by Robin, she has such an eye for style I didn’t think twice about leaving my hair in her hands. I had my hair done at Kats Meow for my Bridal Shower, Engagement Photoshoot, and just a random blow out one day, in addition to my wedding day and I was a happy customer each time. I love the 50s décor inside and the music just ties it all together for an enjoyable beautification experience. Robin and Rina have both done my hair and they are pure excellence; they both take pride in their work and have an expert experience for hair in my opinion. Treat yourself to a perfect vintage do, or cut and highlights, at Kats Meow, and you wont regret it. Its an adorable salon and its next to a coffee shop! perfect :)

I just moved to Houston and have been nervous about finding a new hair stylist for months. I found Kat’s Meow Salon here on Unilocal because of their incredible ratings and decided to give it a shot. I was not disappointed.
The minute I walked in I was put it ease by everyone’s friendly demeanor and the cute décor. My stylist, Rina Dee, greeted me right away and was very informative during our consultation. She made me feel at home and comfortable during my entire experience. My haircut and style are awesome. I don’t think I’ll go anywhere else. It turned out just wonderful, exactly the way I wanted it!

For years I have been coloring highlighting my hair and no one has yet to get it right until… I met RINA! She is awesome. First of all its hard to explain to people what I want but I hardly gave her any details and its like she read my mind. I finally found my right stylist. The experience at the salon was very laid back and comfy. Kats Meow is a must go to!

Rina cut my hair and it was a great experience! The shampoo, cut, and styling was very reasonably priced at $ 55. The ambience was great and I can come back at any time for bang trims for free. They were pretty free on a random Friday afternoon and Rina told me walk-​ins are always welcome if I didn’t have time to make an appointment beforehand. I have straight black Asian hair at about shoulder length so I like to have it layered and thinned out on top to cut the weight for styling.

First and foremost, the door to the salon faces Winbern St, not Main St. Hopefully that saves you a nasty loop around the train tracks… mayhap that was just my mishap!
And for those of you less directionally challenged, you have found your way to a first-​rate salon! Consult, shampoo, cut, and style for $ 55 (pre-​tip). Plus free bang trims!

I don’t why it’s taken me so long to give the amazing Robin a review but here goes…
This is probably like the fifth or sixth time I’ve been to the salon and I’ve loved my experience every time! Robin is amazing with color and we’ve done the spectrum of blondes from super highlights to beautiful, strawberry blonde lows, and I’m always very pleased by the end of it. The prices are very reasonable, especially given the market in Houston ($ 70 – 115 depending on the color service). I’ve had a few cuts done as well and they always look very cute and stylish!
The salon itself is very trendy and has a rockabilly, 40s & 50s feel and it’s very laid back and relaxed. All the girls have been nothing but friendly and welcoming, and I highly recommend them for your hair care needs!

These women are amazing and attentive to detail! I. have black hair and no one has been able dye it with out it looking brassy until now. robin is amazing!

Really enjoyed my visit and looking forward to another one!

I visited Kat’s Meow for a shampoo and haircut with Kelly (I think) — nothing too tricky, just long layers and bangs ($ 55). But, I was looking for the 60s bombshell Brigitte Bardot version of this simple cut, so I thought this would be the place. I brought in a photo to illustrate, and my stylist made a few helpful suggestions and observations and then went right to work.
The appointment lasted about an hour, with surprisingly little time spent on the cut itself; I was at first disappointed about this, but honestly it looks as good as much more time consuming cuts have in the past. The blowout was nothing special, the stylist didn’t even use a round brush, but she made up for it by curling my ends to recreate the look in the photo I brought along. My only real complaint is a very minor one: that she let me walk out of there with hair all over my face from the bang trim!

The WORST DYE JOB of my entire life! … bad service and terrible attitude.
I went in to get the bottom layers of my hair dyed blond in a way that would blend with my natural color. This is something that I had done before with another stylist before I moved to Houston. A friend of mine recommended Angela. I had a consult first, showed her a couple of pictures, talked about how I wanted an even lighter tone this time, closer to platinum. She seemed to understand and said she could do it, so I came back. — Please don’t tell your customer you can do something that you don’t know how to do.
UNPROFESSIONAL DYE JOB:
When I came back, I showed her the picture again. She started bleaching. I realized she was bleaching the whole lower section, without sectioning it. I asked her if that’s what she was doing and she replied, «I guess I should’ve asked first.» I should have stopped right there, but the bleaching was already under way. She finished bleaching, applied color and realized that the color was, well, orange. I must add she was working with my natural color. She made a remark about how dark my hair is. I thought she saw the color of my hair before she started, right?
She bleached again (yeah, double bleach). I also noticed that the two colors were not blending well. She had bleached only the tips of the bottom layers of my hair, so there was a straight line that divided the brown and the orange. I let her know that was not OK. So she bleached a couple of sections to see if it blended better, but no, it didn’t. By this time, she was in a hurry, as she had another appointment booked.
A few minutes later, she rinsed my hair. My hair looked orange and bright yellow now. She did not apply any color to it. She told me to buy a shampoo at Sally’s to take the brassiness out. Seriously? If the brassy tone didn’t go away, she would dye it. I was honestly so stunned, I didn’t know what to say, so I paid and went home. BIG MISTAKE! I should have never paid because what I didn’t know is that THEY HAVE A NO REFUND POLICY.
When I went home, my friends and family were horrified. As I said, my hair was half brown and half ORANGE/​YELLOW. The work was sloppy, the layers didn’t blend. IT LOOKED LIKE I HAD BOUGHT SOME PEROXIDE AT THE STORE AND DONE IT MYSELF. It definitely did not look like I had spent $ 150. For that kind of money, I expect to have a professional job done, not a half-​ass rushed job, in which the stylist expects me to fix the color at home. A professional stylist knows, from looking at the color of your hair, what kind of bleach to use and how long to leave it on. There’s absolutely no excuse for the poor quality of her work.
TERRIBLE SERVICE:
I went back and asked for my money back, three times, because Crissy, the owner, wasn’t there. One of those times I was greeted by Angela, who did not apologize and was annoyed at the fact that I didn’t like what she did, stating, «I thought we had a consultation.» Well, I thought so, too. I thought she told me she knew what she was doing.
When I did get a hold of Crissy, I told her politely that the dye job I got was highly unprofessional and that I wanted my money back so I can go somewhere else and fix it. She said that my hair looked fine, that they don’t do refunds and that I could go back and have her stylists fix my hair. Uhm… NO! I don’t want your stylists to touch my hair, especially if you are telling me it looks fine. I gave this place my trust, money and time once. I am not doing that again. She refused to give my money back, end of discussion. She also refused to acknowledge that her stylist made a mistake on my hair. I AM NOW FURIOUS WITH THESE PEOPLE.
NO, I WOULD NEVER GO THERE AGAIN. AND NO I WOULDN’T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYBODY. AND YES, I AM TRAUMATIZED BY THIS EXPERIENCE.
…On the other hand, one of my friends recommended that I fix my hair with Yumi Matsushima at Spa 1107. She did a wonderful job, at a price I could afford and I am now super happy with my hair. Funny thing, I told her exactly the same thing and showed exactly the same pictures I showed Angela and she did a fantastic job. Big difference, Yumi really knows her stuff.

Angela has been cutting and coloring my hair for the past 2 years and I use NO ONE else! She understands exactly what I want, and even when I do not know what I want, she works her hair magic and I always look amazing after being in her professional hands.
I am also a burlesque dancer who gets her hair in vintage up dos and the ladies in this salon are experts! They are also well versed in non vintage, wedding and everyday looks, so you can’t go wrong.
Go visit Kat’s Meow just once and you will be hooked. From the leopard wall, bust of Elvis, and great music selections, you will feel transported back to a time where women got their hair done everyday and glamour ruled the world!

Was faced with a decision between some «fancy» salon in my neighborhood or this joint. I’m pleased to report that I think I made the right decision.
Went in today for a cut and some highlights. Had a general idea of what I wanted (but not really). Robin was great — she asked all the right questions, was personable, and did a fantastic job on my hairs. I left happy and will be back.
$ 120 for a cut and some highlights — bit higher than I paid back home in South Louisiana (but I was fortunate to be spoiled by a very nice lady who totally undercharged for her work.) :)
In short, the prices are reasonable. The environment is welcoming. Robin did a bang up job. (Get it «bang» up?! *ba dum dum chhhhh*)

I too have been living in Houston for quite some time before I found a salon that wasn’t uppity, knew what they were doing and didn’t cost me over $ 250 for a dye and cut.
I started at Cutloose, where they charge by experience. I think I saw a mid-​priced person my second time. I was platinum blonde. I wanted to be a redhead with violet undertones. What did he do? Put the red directly onto the platinum blonde without a base. I was a bright magenta. Seriously. And that cost me $ 250. I almost cried, but didn’t want them to try to «fix it» for fear it would just get worse. It was a pretty color even if completely unprofessional, but it washed out to a horrible dullness the next day. So I tried to cover it up with box dye for months.
I hated my hair and knew it was beyond me to fix it.
Alas, I didn’t want to be a redhead forever and wanted to go back to blonde and KNEW I had to have a massive color correction. But I feared the salons in Houston.
I decided to try Kat’s Meow after hearing their awesome expertise on color. They managed to uncluck my hair without destroying it (it’s HARD to strip color!). By time it was done, I was a strawberry blonde (the red just could not leave in parts), and it was a beautiful color. I was more than happy, I so thankful to have my hair a normal color again. I felt pretty again.
Kat’s Meow is the opposite of uppity and smug that you will find in Montrose. The salon is adorable with some cute vintage touches everywhere. You won’t get a lecture on what you are doing wrong with your hair, or how dare you use box dye or anything to make you feel bad about yourself. They do what they do – make you look fabulous and feel comfortable. It reminds me of my old salon, Curl Up & Dye in Detroit. You can easily make a weekend appointment without waiting for weeks.
As previously mentioned, and needs to be restated because it is the truth: Robin Winfrey is a color goddess. I’ve found throughout the years and many hair mistakes, that it is REALLY HARD to find someone who does good color — who can not only do great color but correct bad color. This is Robin. As far as you are concerned, she is the only «one and only» hair color guru in Houston.
You can park in the muddy /​rock parking lot next door for no charge (don’t shove the 2 – 3 dollars into the hole). Cut plus a root touch up and a purple base color was $ 130. My color correction plus dye with cut was less than $ 150.
That’s it. This is my salon in Houston. Cute, cozy, comfortable and filled with style and people who know hair and know how to treat their clients.
