Asia Market Thai Restaurant

Excellent food, I usually get the pad Thai and it is always delicious. The egg rolls are excellent and they have local draft beers as well. Haven’t had anything less than an excellent meal in the 3 years of being a customer.

Food was pretty decent, ordered yellow curry (medium heat) and grilled calamari, curry was mild at best, which was annoying but not the reason for 3 stars. I ordered carry out here for the first time yesterday and the gentleman that was helping me came across as very rude and annoyed that I didn’t know how his system worked even tho it was my first time. I left feeling like a scolded child. I understand from my friend that referred me, that he is actually the owner. Disappointing because good customer service and appreciating your patrons is crucial when trying to keep the doors open. I won’t be back

Really good food. The quantity is less compared to other places I have been too. Especially when the food is tasty, the quantity seems less:)

Have been here twice and was throughly impressed both times! My family is from Laos and Thailand originally and when I tell you I’ve never gone out to a Thai restaurant that tasted remotely like my grandmothers cooking I am not lying. This little gem is the closest I’ve ever been and I’m in love! I swear she’s in the back cooking up all my favorite dishes from my childhood! The first time we visited me and the boyfriend ordered a decent size spread, here’s the breakdown:
Chicken wings: Crispy and a decent size! A perfect choice for a party with people who have never experienced Thai or Laos cuisine. Sauce is typical sweet chili sauce, but overall very tasty! 3.5÷5
Pork larb: just how my grandma makes it! Love that they use grinded toasted sticky rice! An ingredient I see Thai places skimp out on/​omit 90% of the time. It has great flavor, but I just wish they used more lime. Overall yummy! ⁴⁄₅
Boat noodle: super flavorful. If I could remotely compare it to anything if anyone is wondering, it would probably be a richer more herbal phở. I really enjoy the large pieces of beef, but there’s a whole lotta cinnamon and cardamom in the broth. If that doesn’t float your boat, stay clear lol. 3.5÷5
Kanom jeen nam ya: I know I’ve said this multiple times throughout the review but seriously… I swear my grandma is in the back of this restaurant making this curry noodle lol. Flavorful and just a little bit spicy! This is my all time favorite Thai dish and probably my favorite food as well. 4.5÷5
Can’t wait to try other dishes! I love it as well because many Thai restaurants don’t cater to Laos food but there are some choices on the menu that give the option of Laos or Thai style! Very nice! Can’t wait to come back and try other dishes!

This review is only for the Thai food.
To be concise, the (Thai) food reminded me of what I ate when I was in Thailand; specifically at Aroon Rai in Chiang Mai. Everything was perfectly balanced: spicy, hot, sweet and sour. Good AF. I had the papaya salad, stir fried chinese broccoli and the pad prik khing with tofu.
I also love that the menu provides other Thai dishes that one wouldn’t normally see at other restaurants. For example, the homemade sausage. My husband had it and he said that it was very similar to the one in Aroon Rai. Bravo, Asia Market!
Needless to say I will back again.

Disappointed in the portion sizes. Used to come here years and years ago when they were still in the grocery store, but portion sizes have slowly gotten less and less. Ordered dinner through UberEats tonight. Dinner portions seem smaller than normal «lunch» portions elsewhere. Normally my husband and I can order 4 dishes elsewhere and have 1.5 to 2 full potions leftover (we like variety!), but here we pretty much finished 4 dishes between the two of us.

I’ve been coming here for awhile to see if they’re consistency would change, I’m pleased to say they do not disappoint!

I finally found a Thai place I like! And it’s so close! Tried the pad Thai, lemongrass sausage, crab fried rice, and morning glory. I gotta say it was as good as home cooking. Will definitely be back again.

Cute new spot compared to inside their market. Very homey and calm atmosphere.
The waiters kept bringing us one utensils or plates when there was 3 of us.
The pad see ew is very delicious. The amount of spice is great and the noodles are cooked to perfection. Tom yum soup is also great to have and you can also add noodles or your choice of meat. The papaya salad is my favorite. If you love spicy it’s definitely worth it!
On to dessert — sticky mango rice… rice was not so sticky. More like pudding.

Nice atmosphere, very friendly service. Good selection of beer on tap for a Thai place. I had fresh rolls and the pad Thai w/​veggies at the spiciest level they would do it. Wasn’t the hottest Thai I’ve ever had but the heat built over the course of the meal.

Well versed in Thai food and tried the massaman and red curry and started with a chicken curry puff appetizer.
The appetizer was fantastic however it was two small puffs for $ 3.95.
The curries: first off they came out at barely above room temperature. Warm is about the best description.
The massaman curry at a medium was very mild in flavor. The chicken in it was entirely tasteless. No flavor at all.
The red curry had more flavor but was extremely spicy for a medium. The thai eggplant in it was nice and different.
The iced tea was so unusual in color and such an odd flavor I couldn’t tell if it was fake soda machine tea or not.
The atmosphere is very nice and the service was excellent.
Overall, the curries didn’t knock our socks off as the flavors were not very pronounced but the curry puffs were really delicious.
The menu had many interesting dishes on it for us to come try in future though. We will be back to try some other dishes.

My go-​to Thai restaurant
I only love Thai tea that is specifically from here. Kang Karee, Som Tum, and Kai Pa Lo are the exact dishes I love to order with the spicy levels of 3 – 4 for each dish.
However, the service can be better. I experience a bit of slow service.

I wanted to try the new location to see how it compared to the original location. Failed is the first word that comes to mind. I highly recommend going to the original market location on Cavalcade if you don’t mind eating in the supermarket. The food is much better at the supermarket location.

Stopped in again for lunch and was thoroughly impressed again. Pad Kra Pow is amazing… Consistent.
Lunch special is very nice size.

Came again recently. Food was still delicious, and the exterior was a lot more presentable during the day.
Again, the noodles are delicious. Get them! Best thing I’ve had here. And the tofu don appetizer is awesome.
But… I got a red curry. Now, I should know better. Thai Cottage is my all time favorite red curry place, and nothing can come close to it. However, last time I came here I got the Pad Kra Pao. I got the level «spicy» and I was sweating all night, so this time I got «medium», one level down.
Sadly, my curry had no spice at all to it, and I’m not sure if it was even spiced… So again, I got a dish that I probably wouldn’t try again. The wife got Pad Kee Mao. Delicious. I need to stop straying from their noodles when I go.
Still a four star experience, but they need to find a consistent spice level so that I’m not left with either looking like a dragon with flames coming out my mouth, or with no taste whatsoever.

Excellent service and probably some of the best pad Thai I’ve had in a while.
Great place to take a date.

This was my second attempt at Thai food in Houston and I am pleased with this establishment. The décor was unexpected and nice. The hubby and I enjoyed the high ceilings and the overall layout. The service was great. Much better than expected. We started with crispy chicken egg rolls which were handmade and every bite was delicious. The chicken satay was average however the peanut sauce made my mouth SING! My hubby had his go to pad woon sen with shrimp. I ordered the pad thai with chicken. Both were ok however lacked flavor. I made this statement based on my tastebuds being spoiled by one of the best Thai food restaurants in the Chicago neighborhood of Garfield Ridge, Bree Thai. The sweet sticky rice with mango was great. Enormous portion to share between two people and still had some to take home. Overall I gave this place 4 stars and would definitely return to explore the menu further. I can’t wait to dive into the red curry next time.

Love you Asia market. Your pineapple curry and beef pad see ew are amazing– especially with some spicy heat! Keep doing what you’re doing!

Came here last night. Pretty good Thai food, as authentic as any Thai place in Houston. Spicy means SPICY! I don’t normally sweat, but their pad Kra Pao had beads running down my forehead.
Do yourself a favor and get the Tofu Don for your appetizer. Delicious and quite a few pieces.
Service was nice, menu was good, and the interior was very nice. The only reason I’m giving four stars instead of five is the area… It’s a little sketchy. I felt a little overdressed getting out of the car. But that aside, it was a great restaurant choice, and we will definitely be back.

Grabbed lunch here today and was very impressed. Out of all the southeast Asian restaurants I’ve been to in Houston this is probably the most authentic. I ordered the pad see ew spicy and oh boy it was spicy, me adding more chilli to it before tasting the food didn’t help either. Overall the food is very good, happy with the portion as well.

Their dumplings are so far the best I have had in Houston; their springs rolls are huge and fresh. This place is a gem in the Near Northside.

Long time fan of the previous location, and like most loyal customers, thought it was high time they got a storefront for their delicious food. It has become my new default dinner place! Staff is always friendly and the food is just a tasty as before… maybe even better as they have had more room to focus. Quality Thai food and the price point is great — I think my boyfriend and I have indulged on several apps and entrees and never spent more than $ 40.

The Tom Yum Noodle soup is the best. A rich sweet and sour broth with rice noodles, complemented with ground pork and peanuts. It’s my go to for cold days, and days I have a cold.

I accidentally found this place while trying to order from Asia Market Thai Lao Food down the street, which is also great (probably 4 star level).
Best veggie spring rolls in Houston (that I’ve tried). Excellent pad thai (I order with tofu). Cute restaurant. Previous favorite was Thai Gourmet, which my partner still prefers. It seems like a new establishment and we were one of maybe 4 couples there and it was nice not to wait forever to get seated like at Thai Gourmet. They do takeout. More than enough available parking.

This place still has all the delicious Thai goodness like they did when they were on Cavalcade serving food from the back of a small grocer.
Now they’re in a beautiful new restaurant with more delicious new items on menu.
Food was amazing, atmosphere is just right, beer/​wine selection is great and prices are so reasonable.
Also, it’s right on MetroRail station on corner of Cavalcade and Fulton, so for those who wanna commute by rail, this is perfect.
This is by far best Thai food in or around Heights.

I order Tum mua but when it came out it was different from the picture. There was no veggies, noodles or crab. This was just Papaya salad that cost more because of the name on the menu. Portions are also really small. We won’t be back.

As you drive up, this place isn’t attractive but the inside is nicely decorated, nothing special though. The waitress was absolutely sweet. She gave us some time to look over the menu as it was our first time here. We were dining for dinner but there didn’t seem to be a lot of people there.
Each of us ordered a different dish along with a couple different appetizers and ended with a dessert. We had the Curry Puff (Pastry puff stuffed with potatoes) which was okay — nothing special and Dumpling (Gyo — Homemade dumpling with ginger sauce) which I thought was really good as our appetizers. I had the Lard Nar (fried noodle with Chinese broccoli gravy sauce). It was a bit to watery and not enough flavor. We also ordered Pad Thai (rice stick noodle, bean sprouts, onion, peanut — seafood) which was a bit to sour and not that flavorful, Pad See Ew (pan-​fried flat rice noodles with Chinese broccoli — beef) which was perfect — the best dish out of all our orders, Boat Noodle Soup which did not have enough noodles and the broth was not flavorful at all, Panang Curry (panning curry with coconut milk, Thai eggplant, lime leave served with rice which lacked something, and Thair Style Teriyaki served with garlic rice (Grilled Beef) which was way to sweet and the beef was very tough. As for our dessert, we had the Mango Sweet Rice — the sweet rice looked like porridge and had way to much coconut milk.
Overall, it was just okay. The food wasn’t as flavorful as I’d like it to be. The portions are small for the price. Although the waitress was absolutely kind and attentive. It is not a place I would return to. I must say I’ve had way better Thai food. Our ticket was $ 91 (including tips) for 6 including 2 kids.

This is the awesome food I remembered when they used to be on Calvavade. At first I thought the older location lost it’s touch but found out that the original owners moved to this one. Enough about the history, on to the food. We ordered the papaya salad Laos style, fried pork ribs, fried beef, organ soup, fried rice, and calamari. Everything except the calamari was really good and very authentic! This is definitely a place for those who truly want authentic Thai and Laos food. They use all the traditional fermented ingredients and none of the food is «dumbed down» to cater to the general American crowd.
This location is also right in front of a light rail station for those who use that.

The best thai food I have ever had. in my life.
I did not know what true thai food was supposed to taste like until I came here, and then I knew. I do not live close to this place whatsoever, but I will purposely drive out here for a meal. Yes, this is how good it is. I am a follower from their older place on Cavalcade, but the quality of the food has not changed whatsoever.
Key foods to order: (and what my ideal asia market meal would be)
— thai iced tea: this is no ordinary iced tea like you have had at any coffeshop, boba place, or other thai restaurants that they claim is thai iced tea. this stuff is good. if you’re a coffee person, go with their thai iced coffee too!
— som tom papaya salad: go thai style and choose your spiciness. I’m not a huge spicy person, but a little kick makes this really good and makes me love spicy more
— pad see ew: just classically and beautifully done
— any meat dish with sticky rice! I just love that sticky rice is an option to order here. the Pad kra pao chicken with sticky rice is my favorite combo thus far.
— morning glory: their vegetables are so fresh and beautifully prepared (perfect to eat with that sticky rice too if you’re feeling it)
The curry was also pretty good. Chicken wings are okay. I’m eager to try other meat or seafood dishes they have. I just love that they have more than the typical mainstream Thai food you think of.
Though the portion sizes have decreased from before, the quality of their food still makes up for it. And the service is great. When our waiter accidentally brought us regular rice instead of sticky rice, he immediately brought it out, and in this adorable container that had the sticky rice wrapped up. When you opened it up, the aroma of that sticky rice was amazing.
The new space they have is massive; it’s beautifully decorated and a wide space. It’s a bit more dimly lit, mostly lit by natural light in the day. I was so surprise how few people came the two times I’ve been to their new location — I know it’s a matter of time before everyone realizes and then it will be madness. Come out here for lunch to avoid the dinner rush. The service will be on point, the waiters will be beyond friendly, and it’ll be a great experience. I promise.

We didn’t find much of a difference from the original Asia Market (and that being a plus!). Except the bowl of noodle soup tasted much cleaner, and their curry balls… They were MUCH better, tasted much more home-​made and authentic!

This review is being posted a month after my visit… sorry…
Like everyone, I too was wondering if Asia Market’s restaurant had opened yet. I did a cursory search and kept finding the new owner’s of the grocery store, Asia Market Thai Lao Food. But it is not to be confused with «Asia Market Restaurant», which is on the other side of 45… just a few short minutes.
On arriving, it’s actually a nice space inside. It was good to finally see the owner’s after several months of not and it was good to see them in their new space… finally. However, it was unclear to Jodie and I what the protocol was. We sat for so long, we thought I was supposed to go up and order at the bar. But, we figured it out and a server finally came and greeted us after 15 minutes. They’re definitely a work in progress, still trying to figure things out. Looks like they have all new staff and the food seemed a little different. But, the owners assured me the cook is the same and has been with her since the beginning. Ok well, maybe just an off day.
Anyways, I plan to be back with everyone else I’ve introduced to Asia Market because I’m super supportive of the owners and they need a lot of support. It’s got to be the scariest thing to open a brand new business and they could use all the help in getting the word out, so spread the word, they’re officially open!
Dishes above are the Thai style Papaya Salad, med spicy, Kee Mao Noodles with Chicken, med spicy, Crispy Rice Salad, and a small order of Sticky Rice.

What was neat about our visit to Asia Market was that it had the exact same items that we often get from Vieng Thai, our favorite Thai restaurant in Houston. So we decided to have our own King of Thai battle.
We ordered:
Tom Yum soup
Massaman curry with beef
Thai spicy chicken wings
Chinese broccoli
Taro dumpling dessert
The Tom Yum soup was incredible — best I’ve ever had. The chicken wings were very good, but a step below Vieng Thai’s. The ones there have this crunchy breading that takes them over the top. The curry battle was a wash — Asia Market’s is a tad sweeter than Vieng Thai’s but both are great. Finally Vieng Thai clearly has the better Chinese broccoli. Their sauce has a depth of flavor that beats Asia Market’s offering.
The taro dumpling was pretty good but I really wish they had some Thai custard with sticky rice. Vieng Thai doesn’t offer dessert anymore. Apparently I was the only one ordering the Thai custard but I didn’t go often enough to save it from being removed off the menu. Oh well. I digress.
Ok so what’s the verdict? The Tom Yum soup was so incredible that it almost single-​handedly won the meal, but soup does not a meal make for us at a Thai restaurant. So in the end Vieng Thai wins in a close contest, but anyone would be damn lucky to have Asia Market as their neighborhood Thai restaurant. And if you’re «lucky» to have a place close by you, well that is a five star joint in my book.

ABSOLUTELY A HIDDEN GEM! I almost want to stop writing my review so I can have this place all to myself, but I couldn’t do them or the rest of Houston that injustice.
First off, what a great location and ease to find. Plenty of parking! When you walk in, you’re immediately greeted by both the owners and an extremely cordial wait staff. The interior décor is a combination of modern chic with purposely placed accent Thai décor.
But enough about looks, let’s get to the amazing stuff, the food! You really can’t go wrong with any of their selections because what they have available is perfected. I always have my favorite go to dishes though.
1). Chicken Laab (Salad section) — the herbs used along with the right blend of spices leave your mouth salivating for more. Pair it with sticky rice and you’ve got a great combo. I recommend medium spice.
2). Thai Fried Rice (Rice section) — the right amount of sauces blended, vegetables, and a true color for quality fried rice. A great accompaniment to any dish you get.
3). Panang Curry (Curry section) — my mouth can’t handle all the sensational flavors it gets as I scoop the first spoon. Not over powered with coconut milk but seduced and given flare. I recommend medium spice as well.
Plus, there’s wine and beer! The waitstaff! Can’t say enough good things. They all take care of your. Sure, there’s one person who may have took your order, but they all refill, check in, and ensure your dining experience is a good one.
If my reviews don’t say enough, let’s just say the local Thai demographic frequents this place. They know what’s great and close to their on home cooking! So go and enjoy the company of Lawrence & Noe and enjoy their well accomplished establishment!

After trying to figure out which is better the last week or so, Asia Market Thai Lao Food or Asia Market Thai Restaurant, I have come to the conclusion that it does not matter. I don’t care who own’s what, who works where, or who started first. Both are fantastic. This Asia Market a full service restaurant, and as such is just slightly more expensive. Which is to say about $ 1 more for most things. Yeah, big deal. There is a weekday lunch combo for rice/​noodle or curry plus soup and egg roll for just less than $ 10 which more than makes up for that. With a fairly large dinning area and a granite top bar. There is a minimalist industrial vibe, mixed with a few Thai and Laotian knick knacks, and overall a very comfortable spot. Food comes out in about 10 – 15 minutes as well.
Like Thai Lao Food, there is an extensive menu of noodle, rice, and curry dishes. All great, and think the spices here are slightly better than Thai Lao Food. The spicy Panang Curry had me sweeting in the best way. The crispy whole tilapia’s are absolutely divine. Not to mention the TomSap soup of sweet breads and other organ meet. Traditional spicy Thai Sausage anyone? Yes please.
Overall, a slightly more extensive menu with amazeball specials, incredible spices, all well priced, and even some local beers from Town In City on tap. Make sure to get either the City Porter or Thai Tea and cream to cut the spice a little. That all completes the restaurant experience. Both Markets are great, just enjoy some of the best Thai and Laotian dishes in Houston and don’t worry about anything else.

I almost did not want to post a good review because this is probably one of the best kept secret restaurants in Houston. Just opened in a new modern location on Fulton. We loved going to their Cavalcade spot (which was in an Asian market with only a few tables) in the Heights and waited anxiously for them to open. We frequently order the S6 Yum Nur and the C4 Kee Mao Noodle. This is some very legit Thai & Laos cuisine. Beer and wine available.
