History

Established in 2013.

Green Apple Salons opened it’s doors in August 2013 and we have been growing our business ever since. Owners, Anthony and Rich have over 27 years of ownership experience in the hair and skin care industry. The Green Apple salons in Texas are located in Baytown and Houston. We offer the full line of AVEDA hair and skin care products and use only the AVEDA’s coloring system in our salons, which gives damage free results.

Business Owner

Richard Hess (Rich) has been practicing hair for many years. He, like Skoogie, believes in the art and creativity behind styling. Rich pays attention to detail and finds pleasure in making people look and feel beautiful. It isn’t just a haircut that he provides his clients, but an experience.

Rich grew up in Michigan, then moved to Dallas/​Fort Worth, before coming to Houston to study at San Jacinto College. But his dream was to be a hair stylist, and he finally moved back to Fort Worth to work in an Aveda concepts salon before returning to Houston to settle down.

Liked everything about my first experience to this salon. I had been there for a facial, and it was promptly done for an hour, as mentioned. And unlike other parlors where they would just apply creams on your face and leave you to rest/​fall asleep… Here the whole 60 mins I was being worked on… I felt so refreshed and felt the radiance I had expected out of a facial. Will go back many times!

I had an amazing experience here about a month ago — first time going, walked in and immediately felt comfortable. It’s in a very adorable, older house on Montrose. I didn’t initially know who to choose for a hairstylist, but luckily I was paired with Sherri who did a fabulous job with my cut and partial highlights. She was so accommodating for me, someone who never knows what to do with my hair, by helping me choose the perfect highlight color and choose a haircut that would fit my face shape.
Oh! I also had my nails done by Phillip, who did an incredible Shellac job that stayed on for over 2 weeks. :)
Will definitely be back! Really nice staff, great location and overall great experience.

Sherri is the absolute best. Not only is she great at what she does and really has an eye for hair, but she is the sweetest woman. I have tried a few places since moving to Houston and I have officially found my new stylist!

I had a fantastic hair cut with Raul. He was very friendly and did a lovely job. Also, they had two puppies in the salon when I was there and they let me hold both of them for 30 minutes. Best haircut experience ever!

Had a great experience with my Groupon. The staff was friendly and I felt comfortable as soon as I arrived. My color and cut was done by Chris and it was exactly what I wanted. My manicure was done by Philip & I have had many compliments about the work. I’ve already booked another appointment because I’m more than happy to return.

In the past couple of years, I’ve had some struggles finding a good stylist. When I came to Alex, I had two very clear lines of demarcation in my hair. One line that transitioned from all-​over blonde to an orangey-​brown color (from where a stylist bleached my roots or «broke the base») and that orangey-​brown color to my natural brown root. I asked Alex for a natural blonde soft ombré that started closer to the root. He explained to me that it was going to be a little bit of a process to break up that abrupt line in my hair and then walked me through the process he was going to take to change it.
After the first appointment, I was happy with how much change had been made in my hair and now that it’s after the second appointment my hair looks completely blended and is exactly what I had asked for. I feel more confident with Alex than with anyone who has done my hair in recent memory. He clearly knows what he is doing and knows how to deliver the results his clients want. On top of that, he is hilarious, easy to talk to, and super honest. I would highly recommend Alex to anyone.

Sherrie is fantastic. She does a great job listening to what you want and making that a reality. She also remember to talk me out of the «just got bored/​cut it all off» haircut I knew I would regret when growing my hair out. On my last visit she decided to take on the challenge of curling my hair and getting it to hold (it usually doesn’t hold more than a couple hours). After my visit with her, I had curls all night and all the next day. No idea what magic she used to make that happen but I know who to ask! The salon itself is cute. It is in a repurposed older home so it has a lot of character. Everyone is very friendly.

I was referred here to Sherri, and right when I met her I knew she was my perfect Fairy Hairmother! Sherri did such an amazing job on my hair, and the she really understood what I was looking for. She made my ideas become a reality, and even better than what I hoped for. She is a pro at coloring and has great ideas of which colors work, and is great at making anyone’s hair vision come to life.
The salon itself is very nice and comfortable, and I will be very excited to be a customer here from now on.

The friendliest staff I’ve ever encountered at a hair salon. Raul matched my color so perfectly it looked like the first time I’d colored it. The salon looks fun and colorful but very clean and you feel at home.

This salon was recommended to me by a friend. Having curly textured hair I’m always nervous going to new places to get my hair cut or colored. I had my hair colored and cut by Alex and he did an amazing job. Alex listened to me and what I wanted to do to my hair. He gave his professional opinion and magic happened. Alex was super professional and fun to talk to. Spending more than 2 hours in the salon chair we had good conversation and lots of laughs. I wasn’t bored for a second and best of all ILOVE what he did to my hair. I was so happy leaving the salon. I couldn’t stop smiling. I would definitely recommend going to this salon, everyone was so nice and friendly. Go see Alex!!!

Chris Pippin is THE colorist you want. She is a color specialist and is qualified/​certified to train others. I did lots of research before I let anyone touch my completely raw/​untreated hair. But, I wanted highlights. So the review search began and I finally settled on Chris. I was not disappointed. That was about two years ago! She is the one you’ve been looking for. My search is over… and yours can be too! Seriously, do yourself a favor. Call Chris for an appointment.

I just had my hair cut & highlighted by Chris and she was AMAZING! I came in with a vague idea and she used an iPad to show me a variety of options that went along with my idea, but also fit my hair texture and thickness. The color she picked is gorgeous & I’ve gotten so many compliments! Chris is personable and very knowledgable — I highly recommend her! The salon is creative & everyone was super friendly. I was greeted warmly & offered a glass of wine right away! ;) I’m so glad I tried Green Apple Salon & will definitely send my friends there!

NO STARS ARE DESERVED FOR THIS PLACE. STAY AWAY!
Worst salon experience I have ever had. DO NOT GO HERE, I had two different stylists ruin my hair. So basically no one there can cut or color hair properly. I now have to go try to repair it somewhere else. AVOID and TELL YOUR FRIENDS NOT TO RISK IT EITHER.
I had just moved from Austin, where I went to Milk and Honey, which I should have gone to here before trying another Aveda salon. This place was the first place that ever messed up my cut, and then when I asked for Blonde coloring for the first time as a natural blonde they died it red/​pumpkin orange.
It was so terrible. Then when I tried to explain my dissatisfaction with the color, the stylist argued and said it was what I asked for… because orange is the new blonde apparently… The Owner was very rude!
Condescending and rude staff. Management also bad mouthed previous stylists and clients, while I was there. How unprofessional?! Two different people did this…
Left me in tears, and made me want to take off work.
Stylist got my shirt all wet when washing my hair, and didn’t offer to help me dry it before leaving. Terrible customer service.
I don’t know how they stay open.

I went to this salon awhile back with a groupon deal. There was some mix ups with the appointment so it was the owner (only one at the salon, and was on his way out the door) that ended up cutting my hair. The entire thing was awkward and he had me standing for most of my haircut… which I have never experiences before. (I’m 5’8 and my hair was about 3″ past my shoulders).
I only went in for a trim so there wasn’t too much to mess up… I wasn’t the happiest when I walked out, but at least I still had most of my length. I had a place once that I asked to take a little bit more than usual off, and then they held up about 12 inches and asked if I wanted to donate to locks of love. I was horrified and it took 5 years to grow back out!
Like I said, the haircut was meh, but their business is horrid. Even though I asked to be removed from their mailing list multiple times, I am still on it. In addition, quite often messages come out that are unreadable (pictures over half the words) or with major spelling mistakes. At least twice now I’ve received emails with «xxx person is gonig out of town» or something like that… I understand mistakes are made, but the frequency makes it appear they do not care.

This place is literally across the street from me & I was in much need for a hair trimming. I didn’t have an appointment but the people who worked here was very welcoming. I’m an awkward person especially when it comes to new places, I even went upstairs thinking it would be where the reception desk would be hahaha. Daniel was my hairstylist. He was very sweet! His hand massage was awesome. I will definitely be back.

Green Apple has previously given me a wonderful cut. A few weeks ago, they did my hair and make-​up for my wedding and it was unbelievably gorgeous. Sherrie worked with me to create a beautiful low twist with white flowers (and I have a bob!) and their make-​up stylist gave me a beautiful, natural look.

I’ve had some poor luck previously. Some horror stories, the most recent wasting $ 300 and ending up looking like a comic book character after 3 trips to a high end salon. I feel like the salons in Houston geberally act as though you are lucky they let you set foot in their chair. This salon treats you well. It smells great too. I will continue to see Caitlyn (sp) for highlights /​lowlights. Going to try a cut next and pedi.

Went for the first time yesterday since I had a Groupon & I now have a new salon! Sherri was awesome! She was gentle, cut my hair exactly how I requested, and even gave me an awesome mini hand massage while I got my Gloss treatment on my hair. She also used a few products that went along with how I like to style my hair. I like big Texas hair & told her I thought my hair was too thin so she used a few products that would apply to that, & explained how they work. This is a cute salon that is very professional and I will certainly be going back. I already booked my next appointment.

I have to curl my hair every day to cover up a terrible cut from this place. Additionaly, the color job I got was very uneven with a huge glob of blonde next to my ear. One side of my head has a huge blonde streak and the other has none. After months, I am finally at the point where I feel it is long enough to have someone fix it. Stay away!!!

.UP! I came in a frazzled stress mess & left relaxed and happy. Being new to the area (relocated from KC) I found this place via Groupon which is usually hit or miss. I have thick, but fine, curly hair. I prefer to wear it straight, but have a cut that allows for curls. She knew exactly what I needed & didn’t push a bunch of products on me, but did let me know what she used so I could purchase it if I liked it. I loved the aroma therapy at the beginning, it set me up for the relaxation to follow. I was given a refreshing drink, and Isis even asked around to the other stylists for a phone charger as my phone was completely dead & I don’t know the area that well. Awesome staff! I will definitely be back!

This is the best hair salon I have discovered in Houston. Anthony is a master of his art (FYI– I have not used any other stylist). He listens to what you want and works within your comfort limits. He is not pushy– like some other stylists I have had. However, he is more than happy to discuss new styles with you.
Additionally, the staff is polite and friendly. I highly recommend this place.
