Mingli Hair Design has been around houston for over 10 years. Now we proudly introduce you the newest location at I10/Blalock Rd. next to 99 ranch super market.
Michael is the best. I’ve been going to him for years for my trims and magic perms. He uses the best products and listens closely to what you’re looking for. The staff is pleasant and the facility clean. The music is random, sometimes like a hipster sushi restaurant, others 90s hits, and my favorite, beach/surf relaxation station. There’s a good tapioca place next door and a Vietnamese restaurant as well. Glad I don’t have to drive all the way out to Bellaire.

I lived in New York for past 4 years and could never find a hair stylist as good as Michael. He really listens to what you want and offers good suggestions as to what would look good with your face shape. Very professional and clean facilties. Couldn’t imagine going anywhere else for such a high quality haircut at a reasonable price.

I have been going to this place for two years. Michael is extremely knowledgable about hair. From color to style he’s done some awesome jobs and always charges a reasonable price. I would recommend everybody to go see him if you are tired of ur old hair.

I got my haircut by May. I will not be going back. The cut came out really weird and she blamed the fact that I got Japanese hair straightening.. And that’s why my hair cut came out the way it did? A skillful stylist would know how to take all factors into consideration when cutting the clients hair… Will NOT go back

Now this is a hair studio that deserves praise & I found it on Unilocal!!!So previous reviews did help! V skilled stylists who know exactly what is in trend and accordingly style your hair. However I did find it a bit difficult to convey what I need due to the language barrier but leaving that aside it’s a great studio to patronize!!!

I have to say, I was pretty hesitant to write a review for Eric this past year because I know that his availability is limited and it’s so hard to get a spot booked with him — and I didn’t want Unilocalers flocking over to this hidden gem. Shame on me for being so greedy. So sorry, guys. Eric is the greatest! I’ve been going to him ever since I moved to Houston. He’s patient, extremely gentle, meticulous with every snip, and absolutely hilarious to talk to. I got an undercut and shaved the side of my head a few years ago and it was an absolute disaster, but the growing out process was a lot less painful with Eric to help re-shape it every few weeks or so. I love that I can walk into a salon now with full confidence that I’ll leave with a haircut I like — it’s so nice to not dread haircuts anymore! I’ve recommended Eric to my two roommates and fiancé and they won’t go to anyone else now. Go see Eric if you want buttery soft hands that will make you feel like your hair is insured for $ 10,000.

I have been coming to this salon from early this year and I have been hooked ever since. Each time my haircut and design was just beyond my standard and expectation. Michael, my stylist is very empathetic and innovative. I told him what I like, he would then suggest with some twist and make it even better. My last style is just so aesthetically shocking and modern, it takes friends and relatives some times to get used to such flair transitioned from my usual dull office looking style. The process of my last hair dye took about 4 hours, but Michael helped easing through time with his humor and anecdotes and made waiting feels much shorter. He is also a great conversationist and the whole experience just feel very therapeutic. With Michael’s delicate customer relation, I highly recommend to anyone who wants to go to a salon to look good and feel good.

I have been using Michael for years, and he is by far my favorite hair stylist. He always takes time to listen my idea and sometimes will give me a better idea. Michael is very skilled and professional. He is also very friendly and talkative, I recommended him to some of coworkers and they like him too. Location is great, and it’s easy to make an appointment too! Highly recommend to everyone.

Hip Asian hair salon affiliated with 22 Salon(across the street) and ML2(in Memorial City). I’ve had Bao and Ricky. Both were really good. Bao is probably your best bet(from reading all the reviews on here) but he’s kind of expensive for Chinatown. I think it was 35 $ for a men’s cut w/o tip.

I’m writing a review about my first time experience here and it was really great! I scheduled with Eric and he did a really good job. He took the time to wash my hair and took the time to cut my hair. He was very gentle. I very much liked my end result! If you’re coming here instead of the ML2 in Bellaire, I’d suggest for you to just keep going to the Bellaire one unless you’re going to book a cut with Eric. I had a friend of mine cut his hair by another employee named Michael and my friend was really upset in the end. His hair ended up being choppy, there were random long pieces of hair, and all of his hair was GONE! I remember my friend telling Michael that he wanted just a TRIM and nothing TOOSHORT, but clearly Michael didn’t understand. In the end my friend’s hair ended up being super short with weird fringe at the front, choppy, uneven. Overall, don’t come to this ML2 unless you’re going to book an appointment with Eric.

Wow I don’t usually give BAD review on Unilocal, but damn this joint has REALLY pissed me off. Let me say it’s not my first time here at this Ming-Li Blalock location and wow have they done me wrong this time. I made an appointment here at 12:00pm with Irene(and let me point out I MADE an appointment with IRENE) on Sunday. I arrived on time and when I was greeted I was told to have a seat. I was a little confused cause I saw Irene was chilling right next to the guy who greeted me and they were chatting in Chinese(and yes I can understand exactly what you guys are saying). I did not say a word and sat down, and by 12:15pm I was still not seated with Irene yet(still chilling behind the counter). By 12:20pm, this dude strolled into the shop and Irene greeted him immediately and sat him down, so at this point I was thinking«WDF is this???» Finally I was greeted by Angela and right at that point I realized they decided to let the new girl to work on me instead(when I said new, I meant really NEW). Angela, I know how it feels to begin working in the real world after getting out of the school but I really need to let you know that girl you need to really have the guys there to teach you how to handle a customer. Your hand pressure on the head during the shampoo wash was RIDICULOUSLY light, almost like head tickling and it was not a good feeling. You need to learn to use the auto clipper on most of the trim and not to just trim my whole head with the scissors(that will save a lot more time). You need to remove the hair chips on my face while you are concentrating on my hair more often, the chips tickle my face so much it was not even funny. You forgot to give me one more wash after the haircut and let me left with hair chips all over my neck and shirt. And lastly you do NOT ask the customer to hold down my own ear(so you can trim behind them) or have the customer to hold the mirrors on his/her own to check to see if he/she like the haircut. Now Angela did a fair job, my hair is not ruined and I felt it was acceptable. The part that pissed me off the MOST is Ming-Li decided to let Angela work on me when I already made appointment with Irene. NOONE told me about it and you guys just what think I should be OKAY about it? I am sorry but if you are charging me $ 18, I expect a certain level of professionalism. You don’t just throw me at the new girl without asking me if that’s okay. At least give me a further discount for this sub-par haircut. I am done with this joint, I won’t be back at all. I would rather hit up Supercut and get a better experience than this.

For many months I haven’t been able to get a haircut and the longer I waited, the more damaged and more split ends I got. I’ve also always wanted to try digital perms, yet was hesitant on getting a perm at a salon. Ming Li had some pretty good reviews and they also did digital perms as well. So I thought, why not. I wanted to experience at least once. I was a little late to my 10am and they were so nice and patient. I was only about 13 minutes late so that wasn’t so bad. Michael was the one who did my digital perm. He was so nice! He was gentle with my hair, he was concerned about my ends and asked permission to cut them, and was thorough! He gave me a cut and it looked so much better and healthier. When I asked him how long the process would take, he said 4 hours. Oh my goodness, if you have 4 hours to spend at the salon, then by all means, do so, but if you don’t, you might not want to do a digital perm. He makes you feel comfortable by talking to you and making sure you are are ease. After an hour or 2, he was focused so he was kind enough to give me magazines to read and switch off when I was done. Unfortunately I couldn’t get the big wavy yet loose curls that I wanted because he stated that it wouldn’t even last a month. So instead I opted for the curls for semi long hair. I would give this 4 stars but something happened where I just have to give it 5. So after we were done, Michael informed me about one of the products that he highly recommends after getting a perm. He wanted me to use the product but didn’t really think I needed it at the time, he gave me the product for free! Second thing, when it was time to pay, unfortunately I was short on money. They don’t have a credit card machine so that was a little hard. They only accept cash. Michael was so patient and understanding. On my end, I was freaking out! He said that he trusted me and suggested where the closet ATMs were and that I would come back. I damn well came back! Haha I wouldn’t want to get in trouble AND would have wasted someone’s time. The service was amazing. I love my hair! I probably wouldn’t get another digital perm again, but it’s the experience.

E R I C is the BEST!(Old client) Very gentle and dedicated what he does and is personable and talkative, enjoyable to talk to and makes the experience fun. I like how he takes his time and is very detail oriented, in same other cases at other salons, other people just want to get you in and out of your seat so they can work on the next person. At least over here, he will work on your hair alone and take his time instead of passing you off ! I like how he is honest and helps you decide what looks good and what doesn’t. Thanks again ! Hi ERIC :)

Michael is amazing!!! I went to him for a cut and digital perm. My hair was extremely long and damaged prior to coming in, Michael cut all the damage off in a way that still left my hair beautiful and stylish. He was great to converse with, which made the service go by much faster. The experience was great and i love the outcome of my hair and perm. My hair feels ao healthy and soft now. I will definitely be returning. Thanks Michael!

Been going here for a long time. I trust the company’s standard for all style of hair whether professional, trendy, expressive. My personal barber is Michael. I respect his work and is pretty good with kids if you ask him.

I went here about a month ago to dye my hair blonde. FYI! Expect to be there for 7.5 hours! Especially if your hair is dyed black! My colorist Allen was very sweet and patient. He was very meticulous and always checked up on me between clients. If I knew the process was going to be that long(I was there from opening pass closing) I would’ve brought something to eat. I didn’t exactly achieve the color I wanted since I was going for more of a silver undertone, but he still did a nice job lightening my hair.

My first time trying out this salon June 2013. I came in for a digital perm. My hair dresser is Eric. I read some good reviews on him prior to the visit. He was amaZing! He gave me a head massage that took me to heaven! LoL! I’ll come back for hair service just for the head massage. My digital perm is still active after over a year! He did a great job!

I’ve been seeing Eric here for about 2 years now – shame on me for not leaving a review until now. My girlfriend is the one that introduced me to Eric. As you can see from my pictures, I’ve tried many different hairstyles here! Eric is a true professional and works diligently. Sometimes I show him a picture of what style I’m going for, sometimes I don’t, but I always walk out with what I like. He gives great tips on how to style or manage your hair and he doesn’t shy from giving honest opinions. For first-timers, make sure you call and set up an appointment first. You can request for anyone but I’ve honestly only tried Eric here for cuts. I have yet to try any coloring or perms here so I cannot leave a review for those services. Lastly, make sure you bring cash. Sometimes it is an inconvenience but it is what it is. I hope this review was helpful for you. :)
