Description

Specialties

Chef Wendell Price brings his flavorful repertoire of recipes with local ingredients to his newest concept, Rustic Oak Gastro Pub & Wine Bar. Rustic chic with a French inspired menu of comfort foods offered from a renovated Montrose bungalow, Price says he prayed for a unique spot instead of a strip center. «I’ve taken everything I’ve done for 30 years and pushed it into this building.» And it shows – flavorful fare served from a space decorated with vintage chandeliers, antique furniture, doors and fixtures. Currently serving weekend brunch, with lunch and dinner coming soon, Rustic Oak offers the Chef’s popular interactive cooking classes, private dining, and wine tastings. The menu is prepared with the freshest ingredients – organic and locally grown when possible.

Meet the Business Owner

Wendell P.

Business Owner

When Wendell Price cooks, he draws on both his deep roots and his world travels. Price grew up in a family of chefs, experimenting with recipes passed down from his great-great-great– (yes, three greats!) grandmother. As an adult, he worked as a maritime chef, traveling and eating widely. The menu at Rustic Oak, Price’s latest Houston brunch spot, honors both of these influences; he describes it as «French country peasant food» mixed with a «grandmother’s style of cooking.» That description should be enough to make mouths water, but just in case you need something more to tempt your taste buds, we outlined four other reasons you’ll want to stop by (and show up hungry).

He’s appeared on the Food Network, opened a restaurant with Denzel Washington, and catered events for the Clinton Foundation. He also wrote a cookbook, Cooking with Heart and Soul, and his «she-crab soup» is so famous it should probably have its own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
