Shipley DO-Nut Shops

The customer service here is pretty shitty, especially with the ladies working the morning shift. This location also don’t usually keep its advertised hours, specifically for walk-​/​dine-​in times, sometimes locking the doors between 6:45 PM — 7 PM, when they advertise dine-​in until 8 PM, and drive-​through until 10:30 PM. Really frustrating for people who live in the area and sometimes walk there, and they tell you to «go through the drive-​through», but then will not serve you because you are not in a car…

There was a roach in the corner of the front case. I told the cashier she looked at it and said yeah I know.

Half an hour in the drive through, enough said. Also the apple fritters aren’t crispy at all. The only reason anyone comes here is because there aren’t any other donut shops nearby since snowflake donut closed on San Jacinto and Gray.

The donuts are delicious, though i feel the kolaches could be better. Service is ok, but they/​re not extra friendly or cheerful.

They were pretty rude, having an attitude with me without me giving any. Don’t ask if you want to warm the pastry or not and just not a friendly bunch. I do have to say it was in the morning. At least the donuts were tasty though right lol

I will have to agree with most Unilocalers when they say the soliciting by the homeless at this location can be a nuisance. I was asked for money on the way in and on the way out. However if you can look past the surroundings, the donuts are nothing short of amazing.

This location seems to keep raising their prices while other locations have not. They seem complaciant with the homeless that like to gather at their location. I can usually see past homeless people, but Shipley’s allows them to be on property. I tried multiple times, but when I get asked by 3 different people for a dollar on a quick in and out, it gets tiring. They should really invest in a security or police officer to have on property. By not taking ownership, this location has lost control of their own business.

Pros — Good quality donuts
Cons — very dirty restrooms, higher prices than the 24h Ella location, homeless people panhandling outside… And oh. I legitimately saw someone smoking crack by the entrance whenever I parked. I was hungry enough to come in but that was a trip!
Won’t be returning.

I have always loved Shipley’s donuts, so on 5÷16÷15 I tried to go pick some up for breakfast. At a nearby gas station, a homeless man asked if I would mind picking him up an apple fritter from Shipley’s. I said of course and we entered Shipley’s together and placed the order.
However, as soon as the man started ordering his apple fritter, the cashier gave him the dirtiest look and suddenly cut him off and told him to get out. I had never experienced this before and just tried to say all he wanted was an apple fritter, but she started yelling and saying she was calling the police if we both didn’t leave immediately. We left as requested as she hung up the phone.
He wasn’t soliciting on the premises, and he was polite and respectful, just hungry. I made a Unilocal account so my first review could be to report this awful incident. I will never support this Shipley’s with my business again.

The location is pretty sketch ball by wheeler station but also convenient. Can’t go wrong with the kolaches and those little donut holes.

The closest Shipley’s to the downtown area, except for the tunnel location. The area around this location can be a un-​nerving, but just stay alert and dont pass up the delishousness that only a Shipley’s can offer. They have have a drive thru, Yay! The interior is very clean. The staff is very friendly friendly and helpful, also patient in those overwhelming indecisive moments. Their kolaches and donuts are always fresh and delishous. I have ordered kolaches at other locations and the bred is hard, not here.

Highly disappointed with this location. I have been to this location twice since it is conveniently located right by my workplace. The first time I went the cashier did not greet me and rushed me even though I was the only customer at the time. I brushed this off because everyone has and off day, I understand as a sales/​retail associate myself. The second time I went, the cashier gave me the wrong donut. I apologized to the cashier if there was any confusion about the order and asked if she could correct it. The cashier got mad then try to correct me stating,“well that’s what I ordered.” I finally got the correct donut but I’m NOT coming back to this location AT ALL! Managers please ask your employees to check their attitudes at the door. Not asking for butt-​kissing service but at least not one where employees have slide remarks in their customers face when they’re in the wrong.

SO CHEAP! and delicious! Got 2 jalapeño cheese kolache and 3 jelly filled (raspberry and lemon) donuts for $ 5.60!
This location is a little out of the way but definitely a place to stop if you are in the area.

When the staff calls me at 6am and BEGS me to bring donuts for them, this is my spot. It can get a bit crazy busy in the morning, but that is what I expect of a donut shop at 6am. The staff has always been nice and quick. The donuts have always been delicious and I like the fact that they have a drive-​thru. Great morning stop kinda place.

Always a fan of shipley’s and this location just happens to be the most convenient after the one on Kirby closed down, but you will undoubtedly be approached by someone soliciting for money or food at this location, at least twice (once upon entering, and once upon leaving) which gets somewhat frustrating. Donuts and Kolaches however never disappoint, and no problems with the staff or service.

Not best in terms of atmosphere but great donuts. I had the bear claw, soft and delicious.

Shipley’s you aren’t bad and maybe some day, if I ever move away from Houston, I might come to miss you… but you just can’t replace my first bakery love, hot fresh Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.
Yes you are full of sugary fattening goodness, and yes you are far better then a Dunkin Donut, or God forbid a grocery store bakery doughnut, but you are still far too heavy for me, your glaze is still pitifully sad compared to what I’m used to, and you never seem to have a hot doughnut light on when I drive by you on my way to work.
So yes I will stop in from time to time and enjoy your tempting goodness, but please know that it just won’t be the same as my one true doughnut love.

This Shipley really isn’t that bad. It’s in a busy part of the city, they’re open til 10pm for those late night sugar cravings I sometimes have, there’s a drive thru, parking and it’s a disco lookin’ do-​nut shop.
I don’t like that they didn’t offer Splenda, nor a creamer — except for the powdery stuff that curdled in my coffee.

Worst breakfast food experience likely possible to experience in the city. The location kind of just screams at you «roll up the windows, Margaret» which is a clear sign that maybe you should just keep going. But no, your stomach is insatiable and you need food right here and right now. Boy that steering wheel is starting to look tasty …
That’s about the only reason you find yourself here. The kolaches and donuts are so mass-​produced and of an even more questionably lower-​quality than at other locations. The cheese on my batch on kolaches was spartan and even more waxy than usual, the bread on the kolaches was crumbling, not soft or fluffy or squishy at all.
On the Ron Swanson pyramid of greatness I think that these kolaches were prepared with skim milk. DOUBLE BURN.
