Sleep Center At Kirby

I can honestly say that my experience with Sleep Center At Kirby was one of the most awkward and uncomfortable experiences I’ve ever had. After complaining to my doctor about my inability to fall asleep and STAY asleep, she suggested I go here to be tested for sleep apnoea. *sigh*
First of all, let’s start with the things that got this place any stars at all:
— They have a «shuttle» service, where a man came and picked me up at home in his SUV, and also dropped me off when the sleep study was finished. He had a good sense of humor, and I didn’t have to drive myself home, half asleep, at 6am.
— They called me ahead of time to let me know I wouldn’t need to participate in the second night of the study, because apparently I don’t stop breathing and nearly die every night in my sleep. What a relief!
— Because I didn’t need the second night, my out-​of-​pocket cost I was expecting to pay was cut in half.
— My room had a TV, and the décor was nicer than my own bedroom.
Now for the many, many reasons I was tempted to give negative stars:
— I woke up once because my room got WAY too hot, then I woke up again and couldn’t go back to sleep because my room was too cold and I froze my ass off. This was WITH wearing a sweatshirt, sweatpants, and socks… and I LOVE the cold.
— Try sleeping with your skull covered in electrodes… all over your head, behind your ears, on your chest and legs… plus having an oxygenation monitor on your fingertip and tubes in your nose. ‘Nuff said.
— The nurse was really friendly, but really awkward at the same time. She seemed like maybe she was new… but her whole demeanor made me uncomfortable. I can’t really explain why.
— I was hooked to a machine with wires that only afforded me about 5ft of slack, and I really needed to get up and pee :’(
All in all, sleep studies are really hard to like because they’re so uncomfortable. I could tell that this sleep center tries really hard to make you feel comfortable, but it’s impossible when you’re covered in wires, freezing like it’s below 30, and being watched and listened to while your bladder is about to asplode. Ick.
