The Burger Joint

True to its name, The Burger Joint is a great place to grab a burger at any time of day — even up until 4 am! I felt differently about several aspects of the restaurant, so here’s my take:
BURGER: Admittedly I should’ve probably been a bit more adventurous with my burger, but I went with just a plain cheeseburger. Honestly I was not a huge fan — my friends got mad at me for not finishing my burger but I figured why keep eating it if I don’t really like it? I would be a bit more adventurous next time because my friends got the wilder ones and loved theirs, but I still contend that a burger place should have a pretty good regular burger no matter how great their unique options are. ³⁄₅ for the burger.
MILKSHAKE: Normally I try to be remotely healthy and forego milkshakes at joints like these, but I’d had a stressful week and it sounded great so I figured what the heck. And wow oh wow was it a great decision. I chose the Oreo milkshake and I think it’s the best one I’ve had in Houston. If you come to The Burger Joint, even if you aren’t super enticed by the idea, plz get a milkshake. I would easily come back solely for the Oreo milkshake. It was a solid ⁵⁄₅.
QUESO FRIES: It was a difficult debate between the queso fries and the bacon parm fries, but my friend and I went with the queso fries. They were absolutely delicious, and despite being completely stuffed I couldn’t stop eating them. The queso tasted great, and they were generous with how much was on the fries but it wasn’t so much that they got soggy. Another ⁵⁄₅.
AMBIANCE: Probably the biggest reason why I love living in Houston is because it’s consistently 75 degrees in January. So being able to sit outside at the Burger Joint with heat lamps for added warmth and plenty of sports games on the TVs is just about perfection. I’m not sure how they run in the colder times or when it’s raining because the indoor section is really tiny and the bar takes up most of the space, but it’s an ideal outdoor hangout spot. 4.5÷5
So overall, even though for me the disappointment in the burger (which I think should be amazing if you’re going to call yourself the «Burger Joint»), I would definitely return, at least just for milkshakes and fries and to hang out. And next time, I’m trying their mac and cheese burger!

Love this place! It is walking distance from where I stay if I’m craving for some delicious burgers! It is more of an outdoor type restaurant; you get to enjoy nature while eating a burger & drinking one of their amazing milkshakes. :)

Went today for the very first time, and not the last! Excellent food and service. I ordered the classic with cheese and onion rings. The burger was cooked perfectly and juicy and the onion rings were a perfect golden brown. I love the picnic tables with the umbrellas for sitting outside especially when the weather is perfect like today! Reasonably priced, just a FYI their are no combo’s everything is sold separately. Example fries, onions, soda’s, etc…

Burgers are delicious and the garlic parm fries are to die for. I am so happy that I discovered this place. My only regret is that I didn’t have enough space for a milkshake, which I will definitely be back for. It’s a very hip environment and the workers are extremely nice, friendly and attentive.

The burger itself isn’t impressive because the meat patty has no flavor. Unfortunately, the over the top toppings don’t make up for a lackluster burger.
However, the outdoor seating area is a definite plus especially when the weather is as great as it has been in Houston recently.

This place is such a gem. While it’s nothing outrageous, it’s exactly what it advertises. It’s «The Burger Joint.»
I walked up and saw a large collection of picnic tables, with fans and heaters, as well as large, crisp red umbrellas. Clean lines and sharp angles makes me want to get chummy with the architect they hired.
Let it be noted that on Fridays and Saturdays they are open until four am. I will undoubtably be taking advantage of this. Treating a dying buzz with super crunchy onion rings and a rich salted caramel shake sounds like heaven. I can’t wait to try their alcoholic ice cream beverages, because what could possibly be better than ice cream and booze except booze and ice cream?
I think the prices are fair, but you can easily spend $ 10+ on a burger if you get crazy with the toppings/​opt for a double. Because you’re on Montrose, this is 100% justified. This is not a hole-​in-​the-​wall burger shop; it’s a classy establishment who serves quality burgers at a well maintained/​high traffic area. In that sense, I think this place is unique. Keep up the good work.

I’ve been here two times now. Loved both times except for a couple of things.
The Good: Burgers are delicious. I love the nice thick patty they give you. However, I wouldn’t recommend the double patty just yet. There’s a nice helping of oil and grease from the patty, but with two, it tends to get the bread soggy. I know they’re working on it and hopefully that gets corrected, but unless you like eat your burger with a knife and fork, stick to the single.
The Delicious: Oreo Milkshake. Smooth, with a bunch of Oreo cookies and just the way I like it. The Bacon Parm fries are also to die for. Yeah, it packs a punch, so if you like the purity of french fries, this bad boy ain’t for you. But if you like take a peak of heaven via cholesterol overload, this is the perfect partner.
The Bad: RocketFuel Milk Shake. I saw this on the menu and it screamed out to stomach. I love 8^th Wonder’s RocketFuel beer, and the idea of a milkshake was ingenious. However, after tasting it, I felt very underwhelmed. The consistency is just off. There was no thickness to milkshake like the other milkshakes. It literally tasted like beer with some melted ice cream in it. Now, I don’t know if I just had a bad shake, or maybe beer shouldn’t be mixed with ice cream in that fashion, but it didn’t work for me.
Overall, still a great place to eat. The outdoor patio works for me on so many levels. I love to enjoy great food, delicious beer and watch sports in great weather. I’ll come back, but I won’t try the Rocketfuel milkshake.

I came right as they opened at 11AM. And although they were still setting up for the day, they took our order. We ordered the kimchi burger and mushroom burger. Both were absolutely delicious. The kimchi burger had a fried egg and a burger with a fried egg is always good. There wasn’t as much kimchi flavor as I thought there would be though. The mushroom burger was comparable to other burger spots but nonetheless enjoyable.

I have been back a few times, and I like coming more every time I make a visit. Service is always great. From the ladies that take my order to the runners that give me my food. It is obvious everyone works their butt off and wants to help in anyway they can. My burgers have always come out within 10 minutes, so that is great kitchen times.
Maybe I am being just a bit picky, but I feel the burgers are still cooked a little to long, though the quality of the meat speaks for itself. Even a bit over cooked, it is still juicy and damn flavorful. The buns are fresh made, and seem to hold their shape much better than before. The Classic is one of those perfectly simple pleasures, along with their amazeballs house cut fries.
Add to that 24 taps (yeah, plastic cups, but again that is just me being overly picky), a fantastic outdoor/​icehouse vibe, and this is a quality spot. Maybe not as good as say Stanton’s City Bites… though nobody in town is IMO. Still very good and a place I will continue to support… with good reason. Well worth the extra star.

Price: I think the burger and sides are fairly priced for what they give you. However I don’t like that they charge you for the dipping sauces while other places don’t. Also the milkshakes are small.
Taste: On a scale of 1 – 5 this place is a solid 4. The Burgers are very juicy and not dry, the bread they use is pretty good quality and veggies taste fresh. They give you a good amount of fries as well.

I got to try this place over the holidays, and the first thing I noticed was the patio seating. There is barely any indoor seating, so I can see this place getting really crowded on a pretty day. However if you would like to come on a cold day like I did, they do have heat lamps. Be warned that not all of them were on. My friend and I carefully chose our spot based on which heat lamp we could find that would provide us with warmth.
As for the food, I got the Opa (lamb burger) while my friend got the classic with fries. The Opa burger’s lamb patty had a really nice lamb flavor that stood out, however I was very disappointed with the bun as it was soggy. I think if the bun wasn’t soggy, I would have been very happy with the burger. My friend didn’t seem to have a problem with a soggy bun so I’m not sure if my veggies were what caused it in mine.
Also, I happened to steal a couple of my friend’s fries. I say a couple but it was probably more like 10. This is due to the spicy ketchup dipping sauce which was very delicious. I wouldn’t mind getting a classic burger and putting spicy ketchup on it now that I’ve tried it. Thoughts for a potential next time.

The burger joint is an almost entirely outdoor joint with many shades picnic tables and TVs. They are VERY dog friendly — providing doggie water bowls for self serve and use. I’ve never seen this before and thought it was a nice touch. Burger Joint does have space heaters scattered around for those colder days. They also have a number of beers on tap including one of my favorite draft beers — purple haze.
They have a handful of different burgers, side items, other sandwiches and a few different entrees. We had both onion rings and fries and the orders were heaping for both and they were also both extra crispy.
Not being a burger person I went for the pulled pork sandwich — it WAS HUGE. Not really a BBQ sandwich but a sweet coleslaw spicy mayo type sandwich (I DESPISE mayo but it didn’t taste too much like it). It was hard to eat due to the sauce but for the taste and size I give it at least a 3.75.
Boyfriend got the classic burger and he enjoyed it– yes it was also huge.

I’m at a 3.5, rounding up because of their shakes! (recommend!)
Not all of the topping combos make sense to me, but you can choose to leave items off

I thought the burgers were a-​okay (³⁄₅): you can tell the burger patties are made of good quality meat, I can appreciate that.
I think the fries taste better with a topping
As with Little Bigs, not much indoor seating. Curious to see how they do when spring/​summer/​fall time when it’s warmer. They currently have plenty of heaters.

We came here for lunch on a pretty warm day in December. The parking lot in the front of the restaurant was quite small. I did see a parking lot in the back, but I’m not sure if you can park there or where the entrance to that lot was located. We did manage to find a spot, though.
The place itself looked pretty chill and laid back. Love the pops of red everywhere here. The majority of the place had outdoor seating with umbrella shading. Some, but not all, of the glaring sun was also covered by the bamboo-​like greenery surrounding the restaurant.
The food came out relatively quickly. We got the Mexi-​burger and the double fire burger. Both were tasty, with the meat having a nice flavor. The bread, on the other hand, could’ve been better. In my opinion, Fuddruckers still makes the best burger (bread is buttered beautifully and stands up to the juicy charred burger within). I’m a purist. So the extra ingredients, like ham and jalapeños are not really necessary.
Of course, we did have to try their milkshakes as well. The salted caramel and chocolate milkshakes were spot on. Rich and delicious.
Overall, not a bad place to hang out, grab a burger, and chase it down with a milkshake or beer.

I wish I could give The Burger Joint more stars because I really like the atmosphere but after my initial visit I think my expectations were greater than I received.
What I liked:
–Spacious and breezy concept that’s great for patio dining on gorgeous days.
–Good value.
–Courteous and friendly employees (no complaints here on service).
My disappointments:
It’s mostly an outdoor eating establishment with a VERY small bar and about 6 table seats. This is not good if the weather is unpredictable (also bad for revenue from a business standpoint). The place wasn’t packed when we came but our order took a little time to come out and on top of that it wasn’t piping hot. I ordered the Fire burger and although it was good, it just wasn’t great like I expected it to be. Also, my kids didn’t enjoy their food and told me they didn’t want me to bring them back. We all left with half of our burgers/​sandwiches and two of them (my kids’ to-​go boxes) ended up getting dumped in the trash when we got home.
I’ll probably come again for the fries and to try out the shakes so hopefully I can bump my stars up on my next review.

Located at the corner of Montrose and Westheimer, behind a Mediterranean restaurant and Uchi. The sign is very big so ya can’t miss it. Most of the seating is outdoors, with limited indoor seating (maybe 5 seats) at the bar only. The outdoor seating is all picnic tables of varying sizes with umbrellas and heaters for when it gets chilly, and tvs too. It seems to be pup friendly, with a doggie water dispenser.
I ordered The Classic burger which is just that — beef, cheese, onions, lettuce, pickles, mayo. It was juicy and just right. At $ 6.25, I would say it’s on the cheaper end of most burger places in town. Their signature, fancier burgers come out at $ 7 – 12. Still not bad. My husband had the Smoke Stack which is their biggest burger — beef with pulled pork, mac n cheese, fried egg, cole slaw, and mayo. It was gigantic! The fries are the perfect crispiness.
This is a nice place to go for a great burger and atmosphere. Look forward to returning for one of those yummy milkshakes!

Sometimes food taste better behind a great story. A story of humble beginings or small start ups winning one for the struggling small business.
I dig the vibes here. Walking in the completely newly renovated location there is a feeling of good times and cool people behind the bar and in the kitchen. From the classic burger menu with a local twist to the wall of craft beers The Burger Joint already sets itself apart from competitors. It is also mostly outdoors with an amazing patio. Obviously rain will kill the experience then again it is Houston and rain will ruin anything right?
Explosions of flavor is the best way to describe the burgers. Having broken buns here a few times I like the classic double with my own additions. Bacon, chedder, just so much yum. The Smoke Stack Burger is not sure much burger but has this bbq-​ness that hits my food heart strings. The Mushroom Burger is my favorite non classic burger. My favorite fries are the Bacon Parm Fries. I mean bacon makes everything just a little elevated.
Not for the faint of the financial heart. It is more expensive than people are initially willing to spend on a classic American meal. Expect to spend upwards of $ 20 for a meal without beer. Perhaps this the the gripe that most people will have. Good ingredients are not cheap and I don’t mind spending a few bucks for small biz. Remember this isn’t big business… if you want to spend less than $ 10 you know where to go.

The Burger Joint is pretty dang good. Love this location and the design of this place — Very open, spacious, and has a good vibe and music.
I like that the menu wasn’t too crazy and they keep it pretty simple. I went for the Classic Burger with cheese and parmasean fries, which were the real MVP here. I’ve found that a lot of the newer burger places here in Houston have killer parmasean fries! Loved these and could have eaten 3 orders.
Burger was tasty. Meat is definitely good quality, but it was a little small for my liking. That might make me sound like a gluttonous pig, but oh well. I wasn’t very satisfied after devouring my cheeseburger, and I felt that I should have been.
I also shared the mac n’ cheese with a friend, and we enjoyed it, but it has an odd, smokey taste. Not bad, just different. I didn’t finish it which is a pretty big sign that it’s not great.
They also have a wide selection of beers for about $ 4 – 5 a pour. Not bad.
Next time I’d try one of their shakes… salted caramel is calling my name!

To me this was basically a cheap burger with good toppings. Don’t take that as a negative thing because the toppings were pretty darn good.
I ordered the Kimchi burger and the Fire burger. The kimchi had a good flavor and packed a punch with the garlic, which I enjoyed. The egg was cooked perfectly and ran evenly when I cut the burger in half. This «fire» burger was easy on the heat but enough to thoroughly enjoy the burger without having heart burn for two days after. For expecting serious heat from the serrano peppers it wasn’t to be found.
I just wish they hadn’t but so much mayo each of the burgers. To me it was overwhelming on both and concealed the real flavors I was looking for. I think the kimchi and peppers would have been highlighted if the burgers weren’t doused in the mayonnaise.
The person who took my order suggest that i get a mix of the chocolate and peanut butter milkshake. Pretty darn good to me. I was overly blended so it was super smooth through the large straw included. Chunks of peanuts were scattered through the shake which was unusual and pleasant at the same time.
What I was super disappointing in were the sides. Onion rings and sweet potato fries were both over done and seems store bought. I would expect more for the other high reviews this place has.
I think they could drop the price of the burger a dollar or two as well. These are not high grade «crafted» burgers. The buns, while soft and tasty, were nothing special to write home (or a review) about. Like stated before these are more of divey type corner joint burger with some special toppings.
It’s good to try but I don’t know if I’ll be back to try anything else since the sides were such a dissapointment for the price I paid. If I want to cure a sweet tooth I would consider trying another shake though.

The Burger Joint is one of the more «fancier» burger places that I’ve been to other than Guru Burger. The entire restaurant is outdoors so this place is doomed when it comes to rain and bad weather. The parking lot isn’t big and additional parking is located further down the street. You order your food at the counter and it’s an easy process. You get a number and you can choose wherever you’d like to sit on the patio.
Since the seating area is all outdoors this means that customers are able to smoke as well as bring their dogs to eat (both of which are disruptions while trying to enjoy your meal). The couple next to our table were smoking while waiting for their food, FYI. It took our meal (1 hotdog, 1 burger, and a side of fries) thirty minutes to come out. The place wasn’t even packed! The kimchi burger was very messy. It was difficult to get a hold of and the bun broke in half. I chose sliced pork as a topping on my hot dog and none of which were hot when it came out. The fries were good but they weren’t hot either. I’m not sure what took the food so long to come out considering that our items were cold/​luke warm.
As we were eating, I scanned the entire restaurant and no one had their food yet. There were about 5 other tables waiting on their food. When I finished eating, another table had just gotten their food and it’s as if the food comes out table by table. There is only one server too. Also, there is only one bathroom stall per gender so on busy days/​nights expect a bathroom line. The music that they play is kind of loud and very old school. We didn’t enjoy the choice of music nor the sound level of it.
Overall, our experience would have been better if the couple next to us weren’t smoking, the food didn’t take so long to come out, and the food actually being hot. We will try again sometime in the later future.
