The Reyna Group

I will not be using, or recommending, Reyna Group.
Long story short, I tried using a Reyna realtor as a buyer’s agent. The very first home we go to look at, she declares it’s «perfect!» and says the price is right about where the house should be.
It was a nice place, but we decided against buying it, because it was small (Smaller than a house this agent had sold for $ 30k less only weeks before), and the comps did not seem comparable to others (which we had to really hammer home to her, she kept trying to smooth it over and say the area was up and coming). I also noticed as I drove around the neighborhood that a lot of newbuild houses were listed within the same 5 blocks by Reyna group, and became suspicious that they were just trying to SELL, SELL, SELL in order to heat up the area and sell their new homes for higher prices.
4 months later (an eternity in this hot Houston housing market), the house gets sold for $ 30,000 less than when we looked at it. Thank goodness we didn’t buy it. We wound up in a better neighborhood, zoned to a better school, with a bigger house.
Do your research, and be leery of a realtor who doesn’t nitpick the house you’re looking at. If they can’t point out some potential problems, they might not be looking out for YOUR interest. If you’re buying in Oak Forest, I’d suggest using a realtor who’s not embedded in the area and who has no conflicts of interest.

I was in negotiations a couple years ago with a seller represented by Mel Reyna (this was my first time buying a house). The seller sent me an official offer, which I accepted, signed, and returned. A week went by with no response. I finally called enough times to learn that the seller was not signing (on advice from Reyna), b/​c they had heard that they might have a higher offer.
It turned out that the new buyers couldn’t get their financing in order, which is karma I suppose, but Mel Reyna going back on his word (and verbal agreement) is 100% unprofessional.
Avoid Mel Reyna.

The Houston real estate market is hot right now and very competitive. Having a great relator on your side is needed to identify good investment opportunities and help you close the deal — Mel Reyna at the Reyna Group is that person. In the last year his company has helped us sell our townhouse for top dollar, lease a rental property, and compete with a dozen buyers to successfully purchase a new home. He has the patience and knows the market better than anyone else I know. I wouldn’t think twice about using the Reyna Group again for our real estate needs.

Working with Mel Reyna was the worst experience I’ve ever had with a realtor. I dealt with Mel years ago when buying my first house in the Heights. I’ve bought and sold 3 others since and he sticks out as the absolute worst realtor i’ve ever encountered. Once we were under contract he pushed me off to his assistant and… didn’t even bother showing up at closing… nor did he let me know before hand. He «earned» a substantial commission based solely on driving me around the Heights for 3 hrs in his BMW. There are plenty of good realtors in Houston. Steer clear of this guy.

Mel Reyna listed my house a few years back and we eventually got it sold. He didnt even bother to say thank you after the house was sold for the business, or show up at the closing. I would not use him again. The most comical point of the sales process was when he thought he had hung up on me on a phone call, and I got to hear him complain about my listing to his junior person. Missed that one eh Mel?

My wife and I were searching for our first house and luckily stumbled upon Reyna Group Realtor Cheryl Barta. She really helped us out with information that we had never even considered and guided us each step of the way. The best thing was how available she made herself; if I happened to get her voicemail we would get a response very swiftly. This really helped calm our fears about the whole purchasing process and that is what a good Realtor should do. I would highly recommend Cheryl for the Garden Oaks/​Oak Forest/​Heights area. Since this is the only area we considered and it seems to be her specialty, I am not sure about her knowledge of all Houston. I will say that her knowledge of the whole process was outstanding. I do not think we would have had the same outcome with another Realtor.
