Uh. No. Overcooked, tasteless cabbage. Good plantains. Very boney chicken. The flavor of the jerk chicken is good but I had a plate full of bones. I’ve heard of this place in New York and just knew it would be the bomb. No, it needs to be bombed! Just kidding. But this place is crappy. The worst Jamaican in the DMV. I’ll try Catonsville and see if that location is just as bad. Would I go again? NOOOOOO

I ordered the brown stew chicken and cow foot soup(on special that day) and I probably would never waste $ 14 like that ever again! The brown«stew» chicken didn’t have a drop of gravy in sight. Like, how did that miracle happen(sarcasm, of course)!!! And it smelled funny. Wth?! The cowfoot soup was flavorful and had a perfect amount of spice(hence, the 1 star) but not a drop of meat… only bone! I’m currently the Duke of this location(with only 2 check ins, which should tell you something) because I accidentally checked in a second time. I will never be back! Also, I don’t ever come to a carry out for good service. Not sure why people factor that into their reviews. *shrugs*

I don’t know WHERE you guys were but this is THEEWORST ever! I tried to like this place. In fact the first time I went was right after a snow storm. I remember it vividly. The food was EXCELLENT! I was so happy to have found a spot near my home. I’ve been back FIVE! Count them FIVE times since and I’ve been disappointed each and every time. The last visit sealed the deal. I will not be giving them $ 30 for 2 meals ever again. Rice hard & crunchy(undercooked). Veggies overcooked & full of oil. Goat dry &blandtc, etc. Jerk chicken! OMG! She cut up the chicken with a cleaver.fine.then squirted some sort of brown water on it. I asked if that was the jerk sauce. Yes. It was. HUHH? You don’t cook the chicken in the jerk sauce? Seasoning was way off after my first visit. Cook must have quit. Not going back.

You can’t go wrong with the Jerk Chicken here. PLENTY of food, and I just got the small combo which comes with rice and peas, cabbage, and a fountain drink. The food was perfectly spicy and the jerk sauce was amazing! If you are looking for the location, its on the outside of the mall, closer to the JCPenney entrance. Definitely give it a try if you are in the mood for good Caribbean food, and don’t mind the attitude of the workers. Its the food That matters ;-)

I have been to golden crust multiple times over the years and the food is ok. But the service is appalling! So appalling. Today I ordered a small order of patties for a party to be picked up at 4pm. I arrive at 4:20 just in case they needed a bit more time(Saturday is always busy). I ask for my order and the lady grunts at me and walks away. I wait a while and nothing — I ask again and they say it’s coming. They finally bring it out at 5pm! Not only is it the wrong order BUT when I let them know, the lady walks away with out a word, shoves a new box at me and walks away. No sorry or anything. The management should truly be ashamed. I would go to the West Indian place on the back side of PG plaza — the food is better and the staff is so much nicer!

Always yummy jerk chicken. I’ve never tried the Jamaican beef patties. I haven’t encountered any rude staff but I have encountered low levels of food. They have ran out of chicken or patties before. All in all, a worthy spot to try.

I call ahead to see what the soup is if I plan on being in the area. Yes, the beef patties are hot, flavorful and flakey, wrap it in a coco bread and you are good to go. My rating comes from the soups! The red peas soup and mannish water are… in a word ~ delicious. The seasonings, the richness of the broth, yam, potato, spinners and of course the peas or goat depending on which soup you order. I have not found anything that comes any closer to home cooking in a restaurant setting.

I was excited to eat Carribean food but Golden Krust by farrrrrrr was the worst experience. The franchise group should be concerned. Customer Service is crazy bad. The food was lukewarm and bad. Don’t. Just don’t…

Maybe it was an off day, but I didn’t really like anything I ordered. My boyfriend ordered oxtail and I had a fish patty and chicken patty. I also had the special bread. It was mediocre at best.

My review is going to be a little different. I have never eaten beef patties so I was anxious to try one. After looking at the reviews on Unilocal I decided to try the shrimp and I must say it was different. I don’t think that it was for me… But my 4 stars is actually for the woman that assisted me behind the counter. She was very patient and kind and even took my debit card when my order totaled 2.50. I don’t know if maybe I ate the wrong thing but I’ll probably have to try something different.

The jerk chicken was forgettable, as well as the rice and peas and cabbage. The patties!!! Wow! The crust is well… golden! The beef patty and shrimp patty are simply divine! i will go back for those items and those items alone.

I don’t know why more people don’t know about Golden Krust. My family and I didn’t actually know about it until we visited one up in Queens while I was away at college and they came to see me. The portions are well sized, and the meals are delicious. The Jerk Chicken and Festival is really good for lunch, and they always have a good stock of juices and sodas, my favorite being maza lychee juice(yummm!). The rice and peas underwhelm, but they are not bad per se. The Jerk Chicken, Stew Chicken and Oxtail, all served with plantains, cabbage and rice and peas, are always delicious. I do agree that the workers have kind of a rough edge. I’ve been patronizing them for quite some time and… they don’t care! haha. But it’s all good cause the food’s on point. The restaurant is located smack in the middle of P.G. Plaza. As far as the interior, it is pretty small, but if a seat is open you can sit at the counter and survey the beautiful landscape sprawled out before you: The P.G. Plaza parking lot. Simply stunning. The music inside’s pretty good, anyhow, so sitting in isn’t so bad if you’ve gotta do it.

I earlier posted my review on Jamaica Jamaica in Herndon, VA for great caribbean cuisine. Which prompted me to check out Golden Krust’s website store locator just out of curiousity. Maryland came up and saw there is one location in Hyattsville! *Ding*. I started to get really excited because Golden Krust was my caribbean take-out spot back in Manhattan. So given the«proximity» from my office in Tysons, I decided to jump on the beltway after work and schlep all the way to Hyattsville, MD and visions of spicy beef patties and jerk chicken awaited. One hour later after dodging the state troopers and those crazy Maryland drivers, I finally arrived. The food was great as usual and served in ample portions. I order my usual jerk chicken wings, curried chicken and steamed veggies. They ran out of the very popular braised oxtail so I’ll get that if I’m in the area next time. After eating the beef patties at Jamaica Jamaica, I have to admit they’re definitely better than Golden Krust. Golden Krust does have more options from beef, chicken, fish patties. So, I bought one fish patty just cause I never tried it before. Well, let’s just say I recommend staying with original spicy beef. So if you’re in Montgomery or PG county and like Caribbean food, check them out. Service can be spotty with some tude by the peeps working there, but just take it to go.
