I’ve shopped here since 2006. The workers are always chill and cool to talk to. I never understood why some surfers I knew back then didn’t like the place. They’re probably too much of a stiff. Anyhoo I bought an extra shop board for a friend as a present since he’s been wanting one.
The new layout will be a big changer since the front will become the rear.

The owner was super nice and friendly. Rented some surfboards and suit and had a good time.

I know Surf Hut has been around for a few decades. They are remodeling now and I am excited to see the final makeover. If you’re looking for a wet suit (adults or children’s) this is your spot. They also have an amazing sunblock display! Their staff is downright laid back, helpful and courteous. I got my sons spring suits here. We picked up a beach paddle ball set while we were there. Thanks for all the help with our big purchase Surf Hut!

In 40 years of surfing in San Diego, this is definitely one of the most friendly, helpful surf shops in San Diego !!!
The owner, Jesus, doesn’t probably even know my name, but stops whatever he’s doing to say hello every time he sees me. Always great deals on surfboards, wetsuits, clothing, and everything else surf related. They totally hooked me up getting an O’neill wetsuit repaired that I bought somewhere else. They drove it to the factory and picked it up for me free of charge, even though they knew I didn’t buy it from them (WOW).
(Totally puzzled that someone would accuse them of being racist against Asians. They’re a Christian surf surf shop (closed on Sundays) and they’re into martial arts, as evidenced by the sticker on their front door … might have been something else, including just an «off» day, people have them. Sometimes they go out of their way to say «hello» to IB locals or return customers … maybe that’s what happened. … but racist, not even!!!)
I usually show up in a dress shirt and a tie (because I’m stopping in during a lunch break), but they’ve never given me any kind of «you’re an old kook, and can’t surf as well as we do» vibe.
I love this place. Thanks Jesus for always making me feel welcome and hooking me up with good deals!!! Great family owned, local surf shop !!!

Been coming here since I was a teen! Tons of stuff, reasonably priced and the guys are always super helpful!

Great place with a great attitude. Picked up some wet suit booties for my kids and the staff was very helpful. The booties may a big difference in them learning to surf through an instructor arranged via the shop.

Seems like a chill shop. Although the workers seem to be neglectful of their customers and very talkative amongst themselves. They didn’t even try up selling. Also, they seemed a bit racist because when a non– Asian couple walked in they got all smiles and hellos. All but one. An older dude. He was very attentive and very kind. Cool shop but needs to work on customer service skills. Heads up. If any of those workers are reading this. If you see a couple with children during tax season, they probably got a fat ass check to spend on their kids. Guess we’ll spend our money elsewhere.

Super friendly environment and a wide variety of options for being so close to the beach. Reasonably priced as well. I’ll be back

In terms of skate and longboard gear: VERY overpriced. And the owners are not very knowledgeable. Also their service is sub-​par.
You’re better off going around the corner to Ollie Angels.

First time buying a wetsuit, and the staff was awesome. Helped me the entire time. The prices were reasonable compared to other places. Plus, you’re shopping local– it’s always cool to support.

I always have and always will go to Surf Hut for all my surf/​bodyboard/​skate needs. I’ve been a loyal customer for 15+ years because Jesus (the owner) is just a one-​of-​a-​kind generous, helpful, knowledgable dude. He’s the REAL mayor of IB.

This place is awesome. You might think that they would mark up all the prices because of where they are located, but they don’t! Their prices are often the same or very close to what you can find elsewhere. Not to mention by shopping here, you are shopping local and supporting the local economy. The owner is extremely friendly, happy and helpful. The kids who work there are great too!
My family loves shopping here. They do carry quite a bit of merchandise, so don’t be afraid to ask them for help finding something!

Third time I stopped in here. Love the vibe, the local focus, selection and staff. Great shop you’ll feel welcome shopping in. I did not even spend much money today, just bought some speed cream, and they still treated me like I was the only customer in the shop and I wasn’t.
You can go to the big chains, or you can support local… what do you want to do? I’ll probably stop in here and throw a couple bucks these guys way each time. Keep up the good work.

The Surf Hut is by far the best surf shop… anywhere in California. Jesus (owner) is the coolest and most customer friendly shop owner you will find. The prices are already better than anywhere else. You are a kook to go anywhere else!

well if its laid back thts because most people who surf are we only rush to catch the waves, never had a problem, but hell all you hv to do is ask thts wht your mouth is four, haha, so I went got some fins they didn’t jesus took them back twicw got me for ten dollars but thtskool restocking fee so I got some dafins let me tell those fin are amazing in the surf this morning rough surf strong current and I shredded love these fins

You wanna talk «Local Surf Shop», Surf Hut is it. Locally owned surf shop that is not a mall chain store. Serving the local South Bay and surf community since forever. You can pick up rental boards of all shapes and sizes, and wetsuits as well. Plus the personalized service is great. From finding what you need in store to helping with special orders. Jesse and the crew always treat me and my family like one of their own.
Stick your head in the shop if you’re in the area and always feel welcomed. It’s the true «Surf Shop» experience.

I had a great time with the surf lessons, really friendly staff too. It was my first time ever surfing but the instructor helped enough so that I could ride a few waves all the way in. I’ll be back there again.

I don’t ever write reviews but the owner of this shop is by far the BEST I’ve ever run into! Super friendly, stopped what he was working on to help me pick out a wetsuit and knew exactly what I was needing. Great prices and they have great assortment of products in this shop.
