I have seen this guy! He is sometimes over by Ellenburger Park in Irvington. I have a friend that grew up there and he said that he is blind, but makes the brooms and sells them on random streets. Apparently he has been brooming like a boss since the early ‘90s.

I am downright ashamed I haven’t stopped to take a photo — or to have snuck around the gas station or at least while pumping gas — of The Broom Guy. I can’t believe I haven’t asked him what he’s doing with the brooms either. Is he selling them? If so… we need to change the category from«Local Flavor» to «F yeah, bro, I“ll buy a BRO-om.» Or is he just standing there in a full-faced ski mask holding two brooms? SO. WEIRD. How do people think this is normal? And how do they not see this as yet another reason to love this city. I plead to all — go find The Broom Guy. He’s at 71st& College… nearly every day. And I’ve never taken a photo… for shame. Looks like I have… err… *we* have ourselves another new year resolution.
